Fable III

I just saw the commercial for Fable III.

That's a pretty badass one.

Pre-ordered and picking up tomorrow. I hope they get the co-op right in this one.

To get the co-op "right" they only need to do two things.

1. Let me choose play as my guy, not some "mercenary".
2. Don't tether me to the other player.

It still boggles my mind just how bad the co-op in Fable II was.

To the best of my knowledge, I think thats what they've done Soapy. But yeah, Fable 2's co op was rubbish.

Ugh, stop reminding me about Fable II's co-op. I won't be picking Fable III up for a week or so. Stupid bills...

Yea thats exactly what they have done. We get REAL co-op this time around.

Well I'll be playing this bad boy in about 6 hours time.

Im still confused as to which game i should get. I have Star Wars reserved and i want to pick up Fallout and Fable as well. I think i may buy 2 of them tomorrow, just not sure which ones.

I was going to get Fallout instead of Fable, but I think I'm definitely going to go with Fable and give Fallout some time to get a few patches under its belt before I play it.

Fallout is patched already, one big patch... happened yesterday.

I'm sure it's only the first of many to come.

I'll have my copy sometime tomorrow, thanks to Amazon release-day delivery.

Of course, I won't be playing it until I actually finish Fable II. Boo. Hiss.

At the time of my posting this, btw, there is a "Free Weapons" piece of DLC up on XBL for Fable III.

Shave off Fable III's disappointing end and you'd have a better game, albeit it one quite similar to the laudatory Fable II. But the world is boring without experimentation. Fable III is better off with its shaky, risky king phase. The fifth act of this play is still a rough draft. But it's been built on an impressive set that we can play in for a long time. Those interested in ambitious stumbles should commit to Fable III. Those wanting something more polished can settle for the previous model.

Giant Bomb review 3/5

Fable III does a great job reprising the elements you expect from the Fable series. The colorful, sprawling lands to explore, the great flexibility in how you develop your character and make your way through the world, the wonderfully dry sense of humor, and the cockeyed view of fantasy tradition are all here and accounted for. It's just the rough trimming around the edges, the ways that those grand elements could have been better realized and better conveyed to the player, that make this as frustrating a game as it is lovable.

Based on the few reviews that are out there it seems like it's getting a mixed reception.

Yeah... what's up with these high profile games getting anywhere from a 7 to a 9... not that either score is bad.

I dunno, I guess I just expected "more" from both Fable III and TFUII.... then again I haven't played either... so... what do I know?

Yea, i was a bit disappointed in the scores as well, but i still bought both games. I tend to know if a game is better or worse than most of these reviewers any way.

Personally, i've had a huge load of fun with Fable 3 so far. I'm a decent way into the story, but do you know what? Co-op rules! I've had a load of fun comparing the way my friend and I have leveled up and changed appearance. The Co-op is pretty much like the Borderlands co-op, where once you're in an area you can just roam around.

Things feel streamlined alot better too, expressions are alot easier plus you get 'guild seals' for winning (or terrifying them into awe) people over, which you use to level up, so there is good incentive to talk to people and stuff. It looks nicer, story is better, or at least alot more entertaining. Fable 2 felt like it was trying too hard to be funny, whereas so far this one actually has made me laugh out loud. Plus it's great to share the wackiness with your friends.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's sitting on the fence and whatnot.

In the co-op can you go to a different area than your friend. Like could one person be in like Bowerstone while another is in like Mistpeak?

From Peter Molyneux Twitter:

"Can everyone please just ignore the reviews about my new game please. Reviewers are not real gamers, they don't play my games properly."

He obviously is not too happy with some reviews. He also kinda has a point.

I totally agree. I haven't gone very far in the story yet (I think the last thing I did was meet whatshisname outside a pub) but I feel like Fable III is a huge improvement over Fable II.

The game looks incredible compared to predecessor. Not only are the textures and models a lot sharper, but the environments seem to be much, much bigger and more detailed. And the overall presentation is better as well, what with the cutscenes and voice acting and whatnot.

And the game mechanics seem to be rock solid as well. Combat is much more satisfying. All of your attacks have a certain "punch" that they lacked in Fable II. Even the simple act of moving your character around feels much tighter.

So yeah, based on the game mechanics alone, I would certainly recommend this to someone who was disappointed with Fable II or anyone who might be wary based on the mixed reviews.
