Fallout 4

I've been playing this morning on Xbox One, so far having a lot of fun. Nothing has bugged out on my screen yet even when a lot of enemies are attacking at once. Having a good time, better than Witcher 3 and Metal Gear for me.

You've legit never played a Fallout game.. Have you?

Played a few hours last night. It's FO3 on crack. Which is all I asked for.
The last time I played a GREAT Fallout game was Fallout 2. The following varied from terrible to OK. I hoped for Fallout 4 to lure me back to Fallout universe. But it's same old Fallout 3, only on crack. For me it means "meh on crack".

So I retrieved the fusion cell for the power armor and it says I put it in but I never actually did.

Did I miss something?

I'm about 8 hours in now and I still can't tell if this is step forward or a step backwards.

The actual combat is much better this go round and while the game does look dated, the color pallet is not gunmetal grey and poo poo brown.

The story also doesn't revolve around a pointless dick measuring contest about a useless water filter so that's a plus.

I actually like the new perk system.

The only really negatives I have are
being able to kill a Deathclaw at the beginning of the game

The settlement building stuff is awful.

The only real major population center in the game is Diamond City (thus far)

The new dialogue system needs some serious work. It's far more limited than what came before it.

Instead of fixing the busted karma system from FO3, they removed it entirely.

The game world feels much smaller this time around.

I spent like 3 hours last night crafting my settlement. Putting up walls and lookout posts. Placing generators and water purifiers. Making shelters. All that time and my settlement still small. It's incredible how much you can do. I haven't even started exploring the world yet.

I think the settlement stuff is fantastic.

It really is. I always wanted a place to "call home" in these games and this settlement building is exactly that. It takes Skyrims house construction(which I loved) and just cranks it up to 11. It's awesome

I understand the appeal, it's just not for me. I found it incredibly tedious. I don't want to play Minecraft: Fallout Edition and because of the feature, it has limited the number of actual populated settlements.

Boy oh boy does a molotov to the face hurt like hell, yeeesh.

so, are we expecting Bethesda to give this game bug fixes everyday or will they leave us with a buggy game and release patches every 1-2 months?

Yeah i admit, 5 hours in on the PS4 and ive already crashed the game 4 times. :csad:

There's some serious bugs that need to be addressed in this game fast.

Bethesda games never work on Sony systems. Fallout 3 was unplayable for weeks.. Or more.

Anyone come across one of those radiation storms? Really awesome sight.

Had to hide in a building full of raiders during the storm.

They honestly sounded much better to deal with then that nuclear storm of doom. :hehe:

well, that's a pleasant surprise!!

I chose "Ilya" as the name for my character and the robot butler spoke it!!

:woot:

I need Me some better weapons. What Iv got now ain't cuttin it. I need a good rifle to go along with my saw'd off

Why mention Witcher 3 at all, if you're not comparing the two games?

Day One Patches would be fine if they were used to fix minor issues only. The problem is that they have become a crutch, used to released clearly unfinished games to make release dates. There was a great Episode of The Point which explored the problem with Dy One Patches and how it has made something like the release of KOTOR2 even more common place. It has artificially shrunk development time.

As games have gotten larger and more complicated it was inevitable games would hit shelves with more glitches and bugs. They are having to make more game but production time isnt increasing with the advancement of the industry. Most studios arent going to put out a game in a franchise once a decade. It has to be done in 2 - 3 years. And each successive game gets bigger and more advanced than the last but the production time stays the same. That is the issue and will always be an issue. Day One patches and patches in general alleviate that issue. Day one patches and patches are just a scapegoats.

There is no doubt that some studios abuse patches (ubisoft), but thats not reason enough to hate patches or to wish them done away with. We will always need patches and when used responsibly they are only a benefit to the consumer.

I've always said that pre orders were the reason that games are becoming more and more unfinished.

These days a developers more focused on getting all those pre orders fulfilled on schedule then taking time fine tuning their game to technical perfection.

I still firmly believe that preorders are whats killing industry standards of quality, thus more bugs, thus more patches.
