Fallout 4

I heard there's a glitch to get infinite bottle caps. I kinda hope that doesn't get patched by the time I get home because I'd love to try it.

You thought wrong: http://venturebeat.com/2015/10/26/new-xbox-one-experience-gets-november-12-release-date/

So I heard a complaint about this game are the load screens. Is it really that bad? Anyone have the PC edition? I wonder if the loading is better there
The load screens are fairly similar to Skyrim. I'm playing on PS4, so I don't know if it differs per system, but last night I accidentally exited a building and then went back in and the loading time took between 30s to a minute.

My load screens are normally pretty quick. In fact I was just thinking about how much quicker they are than Skyrim's load screens. I'm on PS4, if that makes a difference.

I've been playing this game pretty steadily since it came out and I gotta say, it's not nearly as good as I've been lead to believe. My largest complaint is the lack of engagement with the character and story. Your son has gone missing, but you have no problem doing menial tasks for the various factions in the world. The urgency isn't there. It just feels like last gen storytelling.

So impressed with this game. The graphics are actually beautiful. Probably one of Bethesda's best stories as well. Gameplay it's Fallout 3 only more refined and solid.

Overall, it was worth the wait.

Playing it on ultra at 60fps on 1440p and fps hasn't dropped. So I'd say it's well optimized.

Granted, I haven’t played the game, but on the surface this seems like an odd complaint for an open world RPG. The “urgency” of the main story will always suffer in games like this where you are given the choice to do what you want, when you want.

That's fair, but locating your missing infant child after a 200 year slumber seems like a huge deal. I dunno, just something about Fallout 4 is missing to me. I couldn't exactly point out what, but it just left me feeling cold. Even my girlfriend, who's a diehard fallout fan and can hardly put the controller down, feels the same. I just feels like Fallout 3.5 instead of Fallout 4.

You could easily do every single main story mission.. Then come back and do every side quest.

I myself am mixing it up. Plus every mission I do seems to help me out.. Ok I'll do this for you and you'll join this group.. And this group will spread out and help me find my son.

I usually do a ton of side quests inbetween main missions. When ever I finish an RPG main quest, I lose interest in the game, even if I have a ton of side quests left to do, so I try to drag my feet with the main story to avoid that.

Thats actually your fault, the player. You don't have to do those menial tasks. Just follow the main thread and then come back and hit all those quests and factions. You cant fault the game based on how YOU play it. I mean i agree, theres not enough urgency if you decide to wander the wasteland and do a bunch of other stuff, but thats totally up to the player. There are some valid complaints out there about this game, however thats not one of them.

I honestly think thats where most of my play time with RPGs come from, its the stuff I do AFTER iv finished the story. I usually mix it up a bit, but i primarily focus on the story, then ill focus on "living" in that world. For example, I beat the Witcher 3's main quest in around 40-50 hours. Im now up to 216 hours total in that game.

There would probably be more complaining if the game urged you to do the main quest.. I can only imagine how the Internet would react to that.

I'm enjoying the hell out of this game, so far. I'm not that far into it(10 hours), but I'm having fun with it.

I am around 25 hours in and here's how I would currently rate the game:

As a stand alone open world action game, I give it a 7/10

As an RPG, I give it a 5/10

As a Fallout game, I give it a 4/10.

As a stand alone game, it's a solid open world action game with a lot to see and do. The shooting mechanics have improved, but they still aren't were they need to be.

As an RPG and a Fallout title, the game is incredibly limited in its approach to role playing. Aside from settlement building, the players actions really don't have much effect on the world and story. There is usually one path the achieve your goals and that path is kill. Character builds don't really affect the game in any kind meaningful way beyond combat and trivial speech checks that have yet to offer any kind of branching paths.

The original games and New Vegas, offered different ways to complete quests and varying types of quests. Most of what I have done in Fallout 4 is kill stuff for people so they will like me.

If Bethesda would let go of their limited wheelhouse and embrace the original design philosophy of the original games and incorporate that into an FPS, that Fallout game would be amazing.

Also the entire Android angle goes against Tim Cain's original vision for what Fallout is, he's stated that he did not want Terminator style robots in Fallout and while I know it's Bethesda's IP now and they can do whatever they want with it, it still doesn't sit right with me.

I keep getting distracted from the main story. There's so much stuff to do!

Looks like IGN's putting more spoilers in titles in their obnoxious spamming of links for their wiki guides. Beware if you visit that site.

Lay that pistol down, babe

Lay that pistol down

Pistol packin' mama

Lay that pistol down

Love this song. :hmr:

I didn't need any more reasons to not visit IGN, but that one's a kicker!

I absolutely agree with this. I'm enjoying Fallout 4 so far, but it is frankly appalling how little RPG elements there are to mission quests and interacting with the world. No big choices in sidequests seemingly at all.

New Vegas it appears still has by far the best RPG elements - a vast amount of the quests - side and main - branched and afforded a great degree of choice and roleplaying.

I've put this down for a bit. There seems to be so much to do that I want to be fully immersed with it when I have the time. 2-3 hours a night after work isn't enough to get anything done.
