Fan Review Thread SPOILERS INSIDE - Part 1

Also Thor: The Dark World must feature the most ridiculously gratuitous shirtless scene in any superhero movie. I can see why Alan Taylor the director wanted to cut it out of the movie. It just sticks out as having no purpose at all.

My entire theater laughed when Darcy's intern throws their car keys into the portal.
Must be a nice environment. No one found that funny here, I didn't even realise it was supposed to be funny until people in this thread mentioned it. I took it as an exposition-dump and plot device.

There were two moments in the movie I found funny: Loki's banter with Thor when trying to escape Asgard with him, and Thor putting his hammer on a coat rack. Not enough to make out the nails-on-chalkboard failing to be funny Erik Selvig never finding his pants.

It has a purpose. It's the idealisation of Thor as a God. If you made a movie about Greek Gods, you would have shirtless scenes in there. Similarly, MoS had a shirtless scene, letting us know they were showing superM-A-N. I think it's important, as the physique is part of the character.

You could argue though, that the camera leered a little bit too long.

Sure. But they should add SOME context so that the scene is contributing to the movie. In MOS they had the scene to show Clark survived the exposition, climbed back onto an island stole some clothes and went off. It got Clark from being suspended int he sea to somewhere.

Not so here. I don't mind that they put it in, but it was contextless. When they show the training grounds, they could have shown Thor doing some very intense training shirtless and then Odin having that conversation that your heart is somewhere else. That is some context!

Alan Taylor wanted to cut the shirtless scene out because it does not advance anything. They could have incorporated it in any normal dialog scene.

My mother sure enjoyed it. She cleared her throat during the scene. :funny:

Underwhelmed by this, and mildly disappointed. I had stayed away from any and all spoilers (avoided this forum altogether), but I could not believe how predictable this film was. Plus, in terms of tone and pacing, it was really all over the place. Felt like 4 different movies smooshed into one.

Oh, well. Bring on Cap 2!!

To bad it's a family movie. We could have had a scene like this :P

The movie had a preview to Cap 2, the first preview I've watched. It looks pretty bad unfortunately, I think it will have the same style as Thor 2.

Did we see the same preview. That Cap footage looked good.

I wish we can see atleast some superhero movies for adult audiences soon. I sometimes find holding back in terms of artistic expression tiresome.

Why can't there be a scene like above in the movies. If it can be in the comics, it surely can be in the movies.

I'm guessing that there'd be very little money to be made in an adult-oriented comic book movie.

So is it safe to assume that we won't be seeing any real masters of magic any time soon within the MCU, or ever?

I mean Loki and Malekith are supposed to be masters of magic and sorcery on their own, and yet the only thing that Loki has proven to be a master of is creating illusions.

He showed a hint of telekinesis back in his cell, but that's about it and he was never shown using it afterwards.

And Malekith didn't even come off as someone who knew how to use magic and wasn't really much anything until he absorbed the Aether.

Yep, when I read spoilers I was sure that Loki will use shape shifting and energy projections. Nothing like this were used in reality - same old illusions only now with the ability to use upon himself and others. But those illusions are weak thing- firstly the disappear at physical contact, secondly they are only visual (when he turned Thor into Sif and himself into Cap- voices stayed the same) so are usable only in some situations. Not magic at all holographic projections. And Mal have nothing to do with magic before Aether infusion.

I guess we shouldn't expect much from the Scarlet Witch then in the Avengers when it comes to magic since if the MCU tamed Loki and Malekith in that department, what hope does she have as well?

Also, I still think that the shot of the Frost Giants Monster chasing after the birds in the end was unneeded and pretty stupid if you ask me.

People say that Man of Steel was reckless when it came to the battle scenes, but having a huge monster like that just roaming around untamed while Thor is making out with Jane in the background is pretty reckless as well.

Honestly, the film had more than enough source for good comedy from Loki's end....I feel like Darcy, her intern, and even Jane's date were all unneeded and I would gladly sacrifice most of them if it meant giving more time to the Warriors three and Sif, along with some actual development for Malekith.

Is there a reason why the poll is down? I just saw the film last night and wanted to vote on the poll.

Malekith was one of the most boring, bland, and uninspiring villains to be featured in a superhero movie in recent years. Not only did he have no personality whatsoever, but he hardly did anything cool.

Agreed and he was already pretty weak as it is before he got that major power boost from the Aether. I mean I got the impression that Frigga could have kept him at bay and maybe even defeat him on her own had Kurse not shown up when he did.

I really enjoyed it, it was better than the first. I'd give it an 8.5/10.

Agreed; they should have really played more with the possibility of Thor being troubled by learning of how Bor had essentially wiped out the entire Dark Elves from existence in order to secure peace, given that Thor didn't like the idea of destroying the Frost Giants into oblivion.

But see Malekith basically purged most of his people so it kind've contradicts him wanting revenge on Bor. That is also why they kept him as a villain just out for universe-wide destruction.

Heck, I thought it was gold on how they basically had Odin telling Thor that the only difference between him and Malekith is that he (Odin) would emerge victorious. It really showed from there that Odin no longer knew how to rule as an effective king anymore, especially when you had Thor's friends committing treason against him.

I hated that line. It lacked any ingenuity.

I feel like Thor's arc of wrestling with the decision on where he could protect the 9 realms best, between being on the Throne or being out there in person should have been one of the cruxes of the film.

I said the same thing in my review. They should've led in with that, instead of doing anothe prologue.
