Image there was a rope long enough to circle the whole earth. It crossed both poles and thousands of people ensured it was evenly laid out around the entire circumference of the planet. Now imagine that at the North pole the rope was cut, and an extra 10 meters of rope length was added to it. The question is - how high would the rope now have to be lifted off the ground for it to remain evenly distributed around the earth with equal tension.
