farewell silent hill..

I really enjoyed the movie. Although some of the character names where changed- they KEPT the storyline from the first game. Yes- they tweaked it, but I thought they did a great job with it. Usually game adaptations don't turn out well, and this was one of them gems. The atmosphere was down near perfect, and although everything went in a fast pace- it was appealing to me.

The ending made sense... why was it so hard to understand?

It's too bad they wont be making another one- in a way it's better that they don't. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Wrong.

Silent Hill is split into three parts. Real Silent Hill, Purgatory Silent Hill, and Hell Silent Hill. They're like alternate dimensions, all existing at once. If they died, why wasn't the car found? Because they went into the purgatory dimension of Silent Hill.

you´re right

I must admit i found the ending confusing as well.

Movies based on video games are always ilogical.

The atmosphere was perfect, and the sets looked great. In that way, its probably better than every other video game movie ever made.

Last week's Silent Hill 2 piece generated much speculation across the web that the proposed sequel was crumbling.

Not so, as Silent Hill scribe Roger Avary explains, "'Silent Hill 2' isn't in any kind of trouble, and they didn't lose their writer since I was never hired to do it in the first place. Christophe [Gans] is still guiding the project, Samuel Hadida and Andrew Mason are still producing. I have another project with Samuel, which I'm directing, and I'm giving it priority. Again, 'Silent Hill 2' isn't in trouble, and may in fact come together faster without me considering my schedule."

Avary is currently developing Driver for Rogue Pictures, Constantin Film and Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt's Impact Pictures.

Video game was great and creeeeeepy, movie; ... meh.

I've heard mixed reviews for this movie from people. Some say good, some say bad, some say okay. I say I need to see it.

The movie was ok, but sadly not scary enough. I'm a guy with weak nerves, I never beat a Silent Hill game, but the only time I jumped a bit during the movie, was when she was walking against a trashcan.

it wont be the same with out christophe....
ill lose interest....:csad:

shame the story for the second game is brilliant, but then again as much as i enjoyed the first film it would have been 10x better is they didn't change the majority of the story

Silent Hill was extra dissapointing because they had fantastic source material to work with, but instead they just pissed it down their leg. The games are amazing and looked like the one possible game franchise that could lend itself to a good couple of movies or so-but that was yet another opputunity wasted. Why the hell don't directors/writers just follow the source material more closely? They fail again and agian by altering it and they'll never learn either.

wow, i guess because i never really PLAYED the games, but I just watched folks play it here and there, i liked it.

I really loved it.

it was in my opinion the best video game adaptation yet.
and VERY creepy.

The Silent Hill movie has the potential to be a very mind blowing movie if viewed under the proper circumstances. I had wanted to see it for quite sometime and got around to it about a month ago. I turned it off after the first 20 minutes. Then I watched a couple days later under different circumstances and I thought it was pretty damn good. I guess it's just one of those movies.

Ahhh "Silent Hill"... What a great looking piece of **** that was.

Silent Hill was a good movie and I think they ended it the right way for me

be honest (if at all possible for fan boys)

if you NEVER played the games but you had heard of them or seen them, would you still think this movie sucked?

I had never seen or read a Hellboy comic and I loved the movie, but a good chunk of fan boys detest it

Silent Hill is possibly THE most poorly made film I have seen this year.

It's not poorly made at all, the visuals are incredible, the performances are strong, it has a very unique score...
it's the only good video game movie, atleast until Hitman opens.

I've always heard the fanboys laud the hell out of it.

That's because most of those fanboys like one of my friends probably has only played one or two of them. My friend hated the film because he was such a "big fan" of the games. Funny thing is, he only played the second game. The movie is a mix of the first 3, and mainly 1 and 2. I've played all 4 games and thought the movie was good for a mix rather than just being based on one single game in the series.

I saw Silent Hill and afterwards, this was my reaction:

Yeah, my friend, who is a borderline frightening in his videogame obsessions, is always defending crappy adaptations like the Resident Evil films, Doom and Silent Hill. He always defends them by saying `You have to have played the game to understand it or understand why it is good`. To which I always reply that that is why they fail as movies. I can aknowledge that seieng things from other media brought to life is cool, but c`mon, if the movie is a horribly written, joyless piece of garbage then it is a failure.

But think about it, some of the best games ever have the most ridiculous and/or cliche plots...Those games are good not really because of their stories, but because of gameplay and presentation.

A decently written video game adaptation will still end up relying on the video game's story as a reference. The trick is, finding the right story to tell and doing something new with it. Silent Hill was pretty close to hitting this balance. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Silent Hill is the most critically acclaimed video game adaptation so far.
