Silent Hill: Revelations

I liked the sets in Revelations. They matched the claustrophobic atmosphere of the games perfectly. But it was spoiled by all the excitement...which didn't match the games all that well.

I would love it if the sequel adapated a look and feel of 28 Days Later, all that gritty and grimey stuff. Tone down the action and concentrate the psychological aspects of a character wondering through a tight hallyway while being stalked either from the front or back and the flash light darting around and all you hear is the character panicing, strange noises getting closer and louder and Akira's music bellowing

Haven't seen the 2nd movie, but I agree with Rodrigo in that I'd like a 3rd film to possibly be like SH2 and SH4 games, ie. its creatures and dangers and s**t are directly related to the hero's fear, guilt, etc. And they should make it a personal story of overcoming (or failing) their shortcomings instead of this more opus-like treatment of the Cult and Alessa etc.

That's why I'd love to see Gans come back for a potential third film. He had all of these subtle themes and ideas about certain characters feelings towards one another in the first film that I think could be really explored well in a SH2 type story.

They just might go a SH2 route with Chris and Rose. But I don't think it would make for an interesting story. Because all the intrigue with James searching for Mary was the unfolding mystery about what really happened between them. It was all a character study, and it's quite clearly the writers don't get it with these movies.

But I don't think it'll be possible for us to get a movie like that, because we know how predictable it will be. Homecoming was predictable because it followed the mystery code of SH2.

I'd prefer a movie based around the premise of SH4. Not a direct adapt, but following it with its own twists and turns.

Revelations set up the possibilities of either SH2 or Downpour. But as I said, a story based around 4 could make for a good movie. Maybe inject the mystery angle from 2 and Homecoming into it somehow.

Seen the film last Monday. It was alright, like others have said before: the dialogue was a mood killer. I also wish they would have built more suspense around the monster reveals, but it was like they just said "meh lets just show them." They also didn't have the organic "slimy" look, it almost looked like they were the TV show "Face-Off" last-minute reveals.

I did get excited at the end when they set it up for a third movie with the prison bus heading to silent hill.

Thinking back. I loved how the town had a mental asylum right next to a theme park lol

I really liked the first Silent Hill but this one was sort of meh. It felt like some stuff was let on the cutting room floor. It could of been longer.

Sean Bean, Malcolm McDowell and Carrie Anne Moss were underused. Some of the acting and dialogue were all over the place.

I've never played the Silent Hill games but this film felt like they just took a bunch of characters and scenes from different Silent Hill games and dumped them in one movie.

Michael J. Bassett did a great job doing a psychological atmospheric horror film with Deathwatch which would make you think he would nail a Silent Hill film.

The problem is they made it too flashy, not subtle enough. Silent Hill needs to be treat like it's a European horror film...like it's shot with a cheap camera. An independant feel. The film was too loud and all over the place with it's Hollywood bastardization.

And I would not follow it up with those 3 potential sequel fanfare pieces of crap they threw in at the end.

I would base it on 4, loosely. I know in 4 you don't go to the town, but they could easily do that by having one of Walter's Otherworlds mimic the town.
