The Wolverine Musical Score

Suddenly the movie feels so short lol short plot..

I don't have a problem with that.

As long as its a very well-told story with well-developed characters, I think thats enough for it to be a good movie. For me, the story-telling is always the one that makes a movie good or not. Good visual effects, action sequences, acting, music, cinematography, production design, costumes are just a plus.

I hope that track doesn't sound like I'm thinking it does.

I think its the scene from the trailer where he's looking at himself in the mirror and looking at his wounds that aren't healing.

I'm pretty sure he's in the bathroom aboard the bullet train.

Nice snippet of the interview. Interresting that he's using a harmonica to represent Logan. It's a very ubique approach of scoring a superhero like Logan. I have a feeling it'll be very Morricone-esque as well. I also like that he's trying to avoid the cliches of using Japanese instruments since most of the film takes place in Japan. He'll "bastardize" the use of 'em, whenever the score takes that approach. It'll be very interesting to hear where he takes that approach. Going by what he's saying I like that he's thinking outside of the box for this movie instead of writing a typical superhero action score. I'm more interested in this score than the actual film.

I'm definitely excited to hear the soundtrack. There's just something different and edgy about it.

Somebody named DeputyRiley said he listened to the score, and said this about it...

Just listened today! What can I say, it's just freakin' awesome. I pretty much gush about Beltrami all the time, so it's nothing new from my keyboard, but Wolverine is just outstanding. Better than World War Z for sure, and nearly as brilliant as Snowpiercer, which in my opinion is a work of genius. Hyperbole, schmyperbole, I am passionate about this stuff. Wait till you hear what Beltrami did with the harmonica in Wolverine!

Only heard the album, which has a few tweaks to be made but is nearing finalized. Will hear complete soon but am utterly captivated by the album, which is terrific -- very action-heavy towards the middle, a few beautiful delicate passages, some ethereal dreamy cues, some suspense, very epic towards the end ("Sword of Vengeance" hits insane heights of epicness and power). Doesn't go overboard with Japanese ethnic orchestration, it's there but not blunt force...except at times some Blade 2-esque percussive action music!

It's pretty cool. Haven't seen the film obviously but the harmonica seems to represent the lone westerner in a faraway culture kind of thing.

Haha, hate to mention it again, but along with thickly-orchestrated and -arranged percussion elements, some of the brass blasts also reminded me of Blade 2, even down to some timpani rolls that encouraged more B2 flashbacks...if you love the score you'll know what I mean. Get ready for Wolverine dude, it's your cup of sake!

Another ethnic aspect to the score is the ultratalented Sara Andon's flute performances, which are gorgeous in some of the prettier parts of the score, and subtly evoke Japan without going into common filmscore caricature.

^ That's good to know, eventhough I never had any doubt that Beltrami would deliver.

Nice. Abayo Mariko sounds appropriately sad.

Hmm pretty good, I hope it works well in the movie!

Wow okay awesome. Very Once Upon A Time in the West... which I had played in my head for my ideas for scenes with Wolverine in DOFP. But it's great here.

I skipped around and only listened to about a minute of the score of it, but it sounded good.

I found a review of the score. Albeit it's a negative review.

This same music critic gave the X-men Origins:Wolverine score a star higher than Beltrami's Wolverine score. http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/xmen_origins.html
Wow, b/c I found Gregson-Williams score rather weak and dull. It didn't do anything for me or the lackluster movie either, imho. Eventhough I haven't heard any of "The Wolverine" score yet, I doubt Beltrami's score could be any worse. I have a feeling it'll be a step up.

I was disappointed by the score...

It has 2 good themes.. one is a very simple Wolvie theme (western type) and a beautiful Mariko/Wolvie theme. The rest is very generic, looks like atmospheric music to fill the pictures.. No viper or SS theme..

There is some good sounds, western and Japanese influences, with i thanks for trying to be a little different but, in a general view is very...mehh

Amazing, amazing score. Doesn't sound like a CBM at all. The main theme is a 4-note soft melody. Lots of ethnic stuff, some wisely used electronica, too. It's very emotional and at times contemplative, and it also plays out like an action thriller.

This only bodes well for the movie itself. Marco has come a LONG way since his Scream days.

I have to chime in here and say that i was IMPRESSED with the score. a Seriously Japanese western type sound. It was truly original and the subtle wolverine "theme" is friggin awesome in my opinion. i was humming it in my head after the movie.

I can totally see why you would say that. What is there is great though. Its a score that really moves the picture along and goes along with the scenes perfectly. The sound is unique, though not as memorable, its a very well done pleasing sound. Its not distracting like say the ASM soundtrack. For what it is I think its truly great. Its very serious.
