That's why they brought Dwayne Johnson in. He's charismatic enough that it makes up for the fact that Vin Diesel has more charisma saying three words as Groot in one movie than in all of the Fast & Furious films combined.

I wouldn't say that. She's an Oscar Winner, so this time around she probably likes to do a movie where she can have fun. Look at Brie Larson. After she won her Oscar, she went to Kong: Skull Island and is also Captain Marvel. Thor: Ragnarok has Cate Blanchett. Eddie Redmayne backed up his back-to-back nominations with Fantastic Beasts. Alicia Vikander is going to be Lara Croft. JK Simmons is James Gordon in the Justice League.

Have you seen her filmography? Charlize Theron might be an Academy Award winner and a highly respector thespian, but she has done plenty of stinkers. Every top actor does.

The Fast franchise is basically near Marvel levels. They're bonkers big budget action movies and they are obviously fun to make (money doesn't hurt either). Look how many prestigious actors have been in these types of films.

Helen Mirren is in it. Sir Anthony Hopkins is also an Oscar winner and he's doing both the Thor films and Transformer 5. And there's a VERY long list of accomplished/pedigreed actors/actress who have appeared in shlocky/goofy genre stuff. Because, it's a JOB for them. Or maybe they just want to have fun and do a dumb action movie,
