SNES... is there really another answer?

N64 is a close runner up, I ****ing loved Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

If I don't include portables
  1. Super Nintendo
  2. Gamecube
  3. Nintendo (NES)
  4. Wii (its barely above number 5)
  5. Nintendo 64 (again, its so close, I may figure it should be fourth)
Portables complicate things
  1. Super Nintendo
  2. The Game Boy family (I do not count the 3/DSes)
  3. Nintendo DS
  4. Gamecube
  5. Nintendo (NES)

Really, the Gamecube over the N64? The console that gave us Ocarina of Time, and Goldeneye (and a dozen other great games).

Gamecube gave me Melee, Wind Waker (I'll say it...WW > OoT), Metroid Freakin Prime, finally got off cartridges, and again...i cannot overstate...Melee...

An extremely valid point. I think that game holds the record for most hours played for me. I played for hours daily for years. I conquered every imaginable aspect of that game.

Even if i agree with you that Wind Waker is better than Ocarina of Time (which is sacrilege), N64 also gave us the best Zelda game ever, Majora's Mask. So, there.

And then there's Goldeneye, and later, Perfect Dark (best FPS shooter ever).

And I'll take Mario 64 over Sunshine any day (Galaxy is another story).

Heh...all your doing is making the N64 sound better on my list than the Wii. Still can't surpass the GC. The 64 was great, but I played my GC by myself and in the company of friends four times as much.

Any system can release a game that pioneered a milestone, going down in gaming history as a classic...but if a later system gives me something that's just more fun, it wins out over its predecessor for me.

SNES was the best, for me.
I don't even care about all the others.

Ah those were good games. I never got to play Paper Mario. Shame really.

The console did lack fighting games and RPGs. It's kind of funny to think that Nintendo had the best FPS at the time. Especially given its image now.

No Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, etc. Actually, on second thought, I'd tie the two consoles, really. Now that you've got me thinking of all these old games.

SNES would be...

Super Mario World
Mega Man X
Mortal Kombat
Street Fighter II
Donkey Kong Country
Star Fox
Earthworm Jim
The Legend of Zelda-

You know, on third thought maybe SNES is my favorite console.

I'm not sure which console you're talking about, but the Nintendo 64 did have Mortal Kombat games. Trilogy, Sub-Zero, and 4.

Super Nintendo followed by the N64...I absolutely loved the N64... I would play OoT and Harvest Moon 64 for HOURS.

Super Nintendo followed by a tie of the NES and 64.

The SNES I played non-stop. It was the first console I bought on launch, and played almost every big game on it. Games that will forever be burned in my memory, and games that I still go back and play to this day.

From

Super Mario World
A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy II (IV) II (VI)
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Mario Kart
Donkey Kong
Contra III
Castlevania IV
Super Star Wars Trilogy

The list goes on and on. lol. And I actually had a lot of fun with almost all of my Nintendo Consoles, but for me the SNES was a big impact on me.

I'm downloading every single game you mentioned on to my WiiU the moment I can.

I have some of them on the PSOne classic, and quite a few already on the Wii I'm glad I can transfer those to the WiiU. The only ones I don't have are the Star Wars SNES trilogy which I should get again.

SNES

Super Mario World & Street Fighter II are still 2 of my favourite games and they still work on my SNES! Starfox was awesome too along with Mario Kart & Super Star Wars.

The only other console I've got much love for on that list is the N64 (which I didn't even own). Don't really play handhelds & the others were beaten out by really strong competition at the time for me (NES Vs Amiga, Gamecube VS PS & wii didn't really try & keep up).

The SNES really was Nintendo at its peak

I didn't know that most people felt that way. From reading the forums it seemed like either the NES or one of the later ones would be up there. Thought it was just me with my blinkered view as it was my last Nintendo console (apart from the wii which I don't really count).

I think it was a peak for Nintendo because at the time there was no actual competition. It was the last time that Nintendo was the king of the castle.

Well Sega was their competition. Don't sleep on the Genesis. Those two went head to head and it was extremely popular and did well. When I was growing up, you either had one or the other and I had tons of friends with the Genesis, but I of course loved my SNES

That's true, I still have my Genesis. SNES just had waaaayyyy more classic games.

In the UK the Sega Master System & particularly the Megadrive were good competition for the NES & the SNES. Lot of classics on the Megadrive that I was jealous of back then! My first Sega console was a Dreamcast though. :csad:
