Was it really? I mean, I suppose if you're a die-hard Venom fan and have been waiting all season for this but I couldn't get over how beautifully done Uncle Ben's return was.

SM3 should have totally focused more on Venom and the New Goblin. Sandman was completely unnecessary.

Raimi wanted the third movie villain to be someone Peter hated and wanted to kill (without the symbiote), and it couldn't be Harry since the Goblin had already been done and a new bad guy was needed. And so far the series had shown the only you can do to make Peter want to kill you is if you killed someone he loved (hurting them isn't enough), and since the only people he's that close to are Harry, MJ, Ben and May it had to be one of them. They weren't going to kill MJ or May or Harry (nor immediately) so Ben was the only choice.

It may have been better if Sandman was the guy in charge of the robbery and who sent Carradine in there, so Spidey would still associate him enough with the crime.
