Like the title says. What is your favorite single player game of all time? And what is you favorite multiplayer game of all time?

My favorite single player of all time is without a doubt Mass Effect.

I've played through it 4 times and going through on my 5th right now. Every single time I play it, it feels totally different and I see things I had never seen before. Not to mention they have DLC for it. Best graphics, best voice acting, best music, best story, and best atmosphere I've ever seen in a game. Combat could be improved on, but it still is better than most. Can't wait for 2 coming out soon.

Runner ups would be Doom, Doom 2, Halo 1, and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Spider-Man Web of Shadows as an honorable mention. That's right! You guys know who you are! I loved the game! So now what!?

My favorite multiplayer is a little harder, but I think I'm going with Gears of War 2 followed closely by Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

And if we're talking off line then Halo 1 all the way.

Mass Effect or Bioshock for best single player. They were truly innovative gaming experiences.

Call of Duty 4 for best multiplayer, hands down.

Well Mass Effect let's you travel to different galaxies and star systemsin your own time, surveying and landing on new worlds and what not.

The whole speech dynamic where you can pick responses and the way they were used in a real cinematic way.

The way you can command your team to attack. Order one of them to lift an enemy out from behind cover, then blast them. Or order a teammate to sabotage an enemy Geth's shields so they are easier to pick off.

Never played a console game like that before.

And Bioshock made FPS interesting again. The way you can upgrade your body with the plasmids.

For instance you could set someone on fire. They run into a pool to douse the flames. Then you electrocute the water. That's just amazing. The way you interact with the world you're in and the choices you make. Like hack the security bots and have them fight on your side, or simply destroy them.

It was a linear game, but it just gives you many different ways to progress along that linear path.

How are they not? Innovative basically means bringing something new yes?

How are those things I mentioned not new or unique for console gaming?

It's not new to "gaming" many of the features are more than a decade old.

It's basically quick travel to get you to another area within the games universe.
I believe KOTOR had this as did Baldur's Gate and a few others.

Fahrenheit.

Ghost Recon/Rainbow 6.
It's also party management like KOTOR and baldurs gate.

Dues Ex/System Shock 2

Dues Ex.

System shock 2, Dues Ex.

I'm talking about console games.

Have you played MAss Effect? It's not just quick travel. You fly to different systems and survey each different planet and so on. Some you can land on and investigate whilst others have natural gases or minerals that can be refined or whatever. It's completely different than KOTOR

And I don't remember in Ghost Recon being able to order a team mate to levitate an enemy out of cover? Or scramble an enemies energy shield?

I know the whole team orders thing isn't new or innovative. But what Mass Effect allowed you to do was new for a action role player like that. KOTOR was turn based combat, so I look at them as two different things.

I'm talking about console games.

The only game listed there that I am aware of is not on a console is System Shock 2.

Have you played MAss Effect?

Yup.

Have you played MAss Effect? It's not just quick travel.

It sure is, it's an illusion.

Your talking about setting not mechanics.

I know the whole team orders thing isn't new or innovative.

Correct.

SP campaign is a tie between Batman: AA and Uncharted 1.

MP is also a tie for me with COD4 and Warhawk. COD4 is just amazing and Warhawk is still the most fun I've ever had in MP with the dogfighting.

Single player - Tetris

Multiplayer - toss up between Rock Band or the Super Smash Bros. series

Look no matter what you say Kez, the ability to traverse different galaxies and land on or survery different planets at your own leisure IS innovative. Why are you arguing about this?

It is NOTHING like KOTOR in that respect. The citidel quick transport is, but not the galaxy map thing.

Favorite single player game. (also my favorite series)

My extreme inner fanboy made me go out and buy similar clothes to him. I highly doubt people would recognize who I was on Halloween sadly.

Max Payne

My favorite Multiplayer game would probably be COD4

Just ignore him. He's one of those stuck up PC gamers who is pissed off at the world because PC gaming has been completely overshadowed by the inferior console.

Fav SP game, Hitman: Blood Money

Fav MP game, CoD 4: Modern Warfare

Hahaha, somehow I knew something like this was coming :P

My favourite singleplayer experience is from both God Of War and God Of War II. My favourite multiplayer game is Tekken 5 (hopefully Tekken 6 in a not too distant future ;) )

I agree with kez. Just because something is new to you doesn't mean it's new to the rest of us as well.

Single Player - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Offline Multiplayer - Super Smash Bros. / Melee
Online Multiplayer - Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Co-op - Phantasy Star Online

Single Player - Uncharted/MGS4. It's going to be hard for a game to top my first play thru of MGS4 (tho I have a strong feeling Uncharted 2 will). However after I finished the story, while the game still had emotional impact, it wasn't as strong as the first play thru. Meanwhile Uncharted 1 is just as fun 5 or so play thru's later as it was the first. So a tie. Honorable mentions to LOZ Ocarina of time, Demon's Souls (yet to finish it, but am really enjoying this title), Xenogears, and Suikoden 2.

Multiplayer - Tough call. Probably old school Counterstrike. I've easily logged more hours on it than any other MP game. Tho currently I'm really digging Demon's Souls Multiplayer set up. Honorable mentions to Warhawk, Diablo 2, Starcraft, and the old 4-6 player X-Men aracade game.

None of those are innovative.
On topic, Halflife/Baldur's Gate and Battlefield: Vietnam.

Sure they are. We've never seen a game like Mass Effect. The way it tells it's story, the cinematic feel it gives you. The dynamic speech trees to the dynamic combat. The freedom it gives you. Name one other game, just one, that allows you to travel the entire galaxy and explore worlds. You can land on them and mine the elements, or just explore and uncover crazy side missions. And the side missions are so well scripted you think it was part of the main story. You might be able to think of a game where you can travel the galaxy, but none where you can land and uncover dozens and dozens of side stories that alone would put most games main stories to shame.

And Mass Effect is also well known as being the first game where your custom character doesn't have to look like crap.

Oh, and it also got a lot of attention for being the first game to have in game characters having realistic eye movement which I think is what makes the game look so real.

Single Player - God of War
Multiplayer - That's tougher.....probably Marvel vs Capcom.
