Now, I recall myself doing something very similar before where the topic was about Aquaman. As before, I am now getting eager enough to want to read Green Arrow's series and what not. So first I got a few questions.

The Adams and O'Neil series run ('69-'83)
I'm pretty sure this was an amazing run considering the team but I have a few questions:
- Because of COIE, are those stories still in continuity? I ask this because I know with Aquaman, certain things were kept like the death of his son by Black Manta's evil plans back in the 70's, for example.

- If it is in continuity still, will I be confused if I did not read this series? I like to know a lot of background information on characters and supporting characters and such that show up in more recent and current series of a character.

The Mike Greel to Kelley Puckett series ('87-'95)
A few questions on this as well:
- I am guessing that this is possibly the most essential series to worry about if I'm going to worry about continuity and character/supporting character history and background, right?

- Did they completely restart the Green Arrow series and everything? I ask this since it starts after COIE. As in...is anything before it "continuity-wise" irrelevant?

Trade paper backs
Perhaps to save money or make it easier for myself, I will attempt to get most of the stories through paperback; it all depends; so I have a few questions:
- Are there any? I only ask this because ever since I've become an Aquaman comic-reading fan I've noticed the lack of TPBs for him.
- If so, are there many from the '69 or '87 series? Or just '00 and recent stuff?

I would really appreciate the help with my questions. I know I'm being a bit picky, but...I want to know certain things before I go and spend a whole lot of money gradually.

I know that all of the comics from Kevin Smith's run and up are in TPB form. I don't know about the eariler stuff. I want to get into that also.

there are tons of Green Arrow Green Lantern trades. I havent read them myselves but they are talked about in the new series a bit

As far as i know, everything that happens to ollie in that time is still in continuity

He does start a relationship with black canary, looses his fortune and Speedy (Roy harper) becomes a junky in that time, so you might get alittle bit confused but its easy to read yourself back into.

Right, Mike Grell's run is also not just an important GA story but also an importan Black Canary story

No Not really, GA never had his own series before mike grell started and the start of that is "The Longbow Hunters" that came before COIE, a very important part of GA and Black Canarys history.
and i have no idea if there are eny TBP from the old comics

Ohh yeah and Identity Crisis is pretty mutch a Green Arrow story as well, as most of the miniseries is seen from his point of view

check out longbow hunters by mike grell... its awesome

I've read Identity Crisis so I'm aware of the part where it's from his perspective. And thank you for your input on the other two things Kebab gud.

Just so I get a lot more input...anyone else? The reason behind this is because when I did finally get into Aquaman...I thought getting the '03 series was enough and it turned out to not be enough. Then I ended up also buying the '94 series and now I'm aware of stuff I would've never known before that was important.

Don't want to make the same mistake sorta with Green Arrow.

i feel i did my best to answer you on that ...
long story short... Green Lantern/Green Arrow was important and is still in continuity (unless infinite crisis has changed anything)
Mike Grell's run is THE most importans part of ollie's life i say..
you can start with the longbow hunters without problem.. and its easy to get up to speed ny looking at the Green Arrow and Speedy Secret Origin thingi..

okay forgive me for my 1,000,000th noob question. Someday I'll get better i promise. I want to get into green arrow, where is a good place to start.

Everything that Green Arrow ever did should still be in continuity one way or another, unless you hear specifically -- specifically -- that it isn't. Everything from the League era, the Arrow Car/Cave/Plane, to the road trip, and losing his fortunes, and everything after including Grell's "dark" era, right up to the death and resurrection. As far as the DC characters go, GA actually has one of the least complicated continuities.

i heard that they are doing some changes to his origin story ..
and when i looked back at the DC nations ...thing when they talked about Green Arrow: Year one (out soon) i kinda got the same feeling.. but we will have to wait and see..

oh and they say (right out) in the same ... thing that 07 is a big arrow year .. im thinking ollie and dinah getting hitched or he is going to run for Prez..... or just some action..

As far as I know, his origin -- stranded on the island, learning how to hunt to survive -- is still intact. Year One will probably not be so much a change as an update.

yeah i need to know more about this guy.
what is a good trade?

The Longbow Hunters... best Green Arrow story ever..
hell its one of my favorit comics ever..

Doesn't fall into that category completely. Besides, this is more noticeable and will only be about the Green Arrow questions I had. If I posted in that thread, people would give a few responses and then someone else would ask another thing or they would move on.

I want a good amount of feedback and such since I'm considering to pay for a lot of stuff and then start collecting his series.

I really liked Kevin Smith's Quiver and Sounds of Violence and Brad Meltzer's the Archer's Quest the best of Green Arrow's current series.

If you go into the DC Comics website, go to Graphic Novels, and again select DC Comics from the list...the ones that are titled Green Arrow: "TITLE HERE"...are those only from the '00 series? As in, from 2000 to current comics (with the exception of Longbow Hunters)?

sounds good thanks, but what i'm really looking for is books that people have read and really stand out as quality, or major points in GA's life

I wasn't answering your question...I was asking another one since I started this thread with a few questions, lol.

yes.. all of them (except the longbow hunters and the Green lantern/Green arrow volumes) are from Kevin smith's run and forward
