Films that should be Remade/Rebooted

I mean it's a superfluous difference when it comes down to stuff like the lack of social media, etc. Just speaking for myself, but i was teleported back to 1985, sure I would be in shock at the world. But give me a day and I can totally blend in. People still partied hard. You had great music. You had punk, hip hop and new wave. You had great movies. But if I warped back to 1955? No way. It would be a different planet, especially with me as a minority.

I don't know. The BTTF reboot would have to a different plot. The problem with today's movie is that everything has to be bigger and 'epic'. You have to save the world. You're the chosen one. Blah.

Marty just had to save his family and his existence.
I thought Marty was was more interested in setting the world right, rather than simply saving his parents. Alot films no matter how big boil down to a intimate conflict of interest. Same deal with the original ninja turtles movie.

As for the differences in time, you may have a point, then again you may just be a victim of perspective. There was great films in the 50's, there was genre's of music...I'm sure for you jumping back 70 years would be a huge deal but 35 would be relative. There will always be new age/wave music, the 90's saw the birth of techno for example, what's modern clubbing without that:yay:

I'm sure 35 years from now this same conversation will be happening but displaced again. The world has changed a great deal in the last 10 years let alone 35. From war to aids to how we communicate, are communicated to and where we get our media. It might appear to be superfluous but I have my doubts. As for the experience of being a well do to youth, 35 years is alot and I think there is enough for an engaging film. I've found myself often wondering what kids today would do without their smart phones in their noses, texts, instagram and the sheer existence of the internet. Kids.

People partied in the 50's, or did you not see West Side story/Grease:cwink:

Another thing: BTTF was a tentpole. It had the greatest minds in modern cinema supporting it. Now look at Hot Tub Time Machine. That's just a comedy not a tentpole. It just show how Hollywood operates now. BTTF and Ghostbusters got lucky.
We still get big hollywood time travel and or Bob Zemeckis films. Small to the side genre comedies such as HTTM have always existed.

Meh, I think it could be cool.
Nike would love it.

I think that Back to the Future has aged well, hell, i can put people who are accostumed to post-2000 movies interested in them much more easily than i can with Ghostbusters or even Star Wars

I haven't looked at the other responses, but I think this is the unquestionable winner:

Like, we need this more than anything in the world, Ron.
Like, it could be a Sci-Fi saga on the level of Star Wars.

Let Jon Stewart be the GL for the next decade, if the DC Cinematic Universe suffers a reboot then try giving Hal Jordan a proper origin reboot. It's pretty much Top Gun becoming space cops. It should be as emotional as GL: Secret Origin, and a structure similar to First Flight.

Not a remake or reboot because the original is my all time favorite movie, but I would love a "true" adaption of "Who goes there".

The Thing 1982 will always be the best horror film in my eyes, but it's pretty different then the book (the 50's one is even more different). But I want all the characters, I want the three eyed thing, and a lot more. Dunno, could be a great film.

A reboot I would like to see done is a modern Never Ending Story. I think it "could" be done in 2014.

I would like to see the reboots of A Nightmare On Elm Street, Friday The 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Halloween rebooted by people who actually understand horror and have actual respect for the source material (unlike those horrid pieces of s**t that we ended up with).

I have mixed feelings toward films that should be remade/rebooted. IMO, any films even classic ones shouldn't be remade or rebooted with the exception of book adaptations. Every time the announcement that a film is remade or reboot, Hollywood sends the loud, clear message that it has ran out of ideas. I'm sure that a plenty of screenwriters with fresh, original, and innovative ideas want to include in their projects somewhere out there but studios look the other way around.

How about KRULL?

Seriously, with modern special effects, it could be kinda cool.

They keep talking about Highlander, which I feel could be really good, and that is one movie that I felt the original didn't live up to the potential of the concept. It was fun, but could have been better.

I dont want this movie to be re-made/re-booted, but I am very surprised Falling Down hasnt had the re-make treatment yet.

This is pretty much my opinion as well. However, if you are going to remake a movie that isn't an adaptation of a comic/novel, it should be one that had the potential to be great, but due to poor execution/marketing/lack of budget/etc, it just never really clicked with audiences.

Would like to see a Conan or Kull movie that is actually close to the books. The films only seem to be adapting the most shallow parts of the franchise, except for the first one though, it had its moments

I think the audience starts to get tired from the "reboot/remade films" fatigue at some point now.

I have to completelly disagree, unquestionable winner? This is the franchise that deserved a great film series the most:

Is an imaginative and expansive franchise, interesting fighting style, has a large cult following, easy to market for families. Instead, they ripped off Spider-Man and ignored what Akira Toriyama told them.

Alright, with GOTG being a huge hit both commercially and critically, I'm reviving the discussion of a Last Starfighter remake/sequel. I'm not 100% certain, but my guess is, that film was at least a partial influence on Guardians. The concept is fairly similar; a kid from the 80s gets abducted and becomes a legendary space pilot and hero. I remember there was talk of a Starfighter sequel a number of years ago but I don't know whatever happened to it. I think a sequel might be a mistake, since the original is so dated; a simple remake might be the better way to go. What do you think? Could this actually happen?

I think reboots are generally more respectable than remakes; since they're already franchise films, more movies and entries are expected of the series, and they generally try and remove whatever flaws the previous movies had.

So having said that, I'd say Highlander seems like a no brainer from the standpoint that it could be done with largely practical effects, has huge storytelling potential, and has a flexible fanbase. If you got a good enough fight choreographer, I'd just show one whole sword fight for the teaser and boom. You've got a movie.

I don't know exactly how you'd qualify this, but I still think there was serious potential in the Nottingham script that Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe made into Robin Hood that you could use the initial premise to launch a small franchise from. While the initial script wasn't perfect, I think the idea of a Robin Hood series told through other characters and featuring historical events could be awesome.

-I'd start with the Nottingham "Is Hood the serial killer?" angle, but make Robin an actually threading trickster character the audience sees as capable of murder (maybe modifying the original origin-killing six or seven foresters to become an outlaw) and make it clear that Robin is accepted by the people because the chaos of Henry II vs. Richard Lion Heart vs. John Lackland is allowing corruption to spread.

-Then I'd have a Maid Marian film featuring the aspects of her original ballad (action girl who's dates are required to sword fight her first) and then have Richard's coronation as king lead to her trying to save people from the short "holocaustaum" some of his lieutenants unleashed.

-Then a Little John movie where he joins up under the initial drain of man power caused by the crusades as Robin becomes a legend in Sherwood.

-Then a Guy of Gisbourne movie featuring the actual attempted coup by John in Richard's absence, with Guy as an outlaw ally to John and Richard's bastard brother Geoffrey Archbishop of York.

And so on.

Just make a trickster focused Robin Hood who's a tad bit sinister but a good guy and have him have awesome but short screen time, and keep an air of mystery about him.

I think a remake of The Last Starfighter could certainly happen, and has lots of potential. It's been a long time since I've seen the original, but I remember the effects being on par with Star Wars (but that may be the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia). As long as the CG isn't too over used as it often is these days, I think a remake could certainly benefit from the technological advances in film making.

Speed Racer. Only instead of a new cast and crew, bring back all the old guys, and instead of a new creative direction, do things the same as they did before, and instead of wiping the slate clean of any continuity, have it take place after the events of the first. :ninja:

And add a number 2 to the title. And just beneath the title, in smaller letters, there can be a subtitle. Something like "The Return Of Racer X".

Oh wait. That's not a reboot. IT'S A SEQUEL!

So, it's been a while, but maybe this awesome modern trailer for The Last Starfighter will stir up some interest in remaking it. Seems to be a lot of buzz around it on the internet today.
