Fire Emblem Fates

It's good that they are doing it. Going through only a few of the supports in Awakening, they were already very close to same sex relationships. Though, I can understand with the children making a bit more difficult, requiring to write different supports.

Still really excited for this game. The tweaks to the gameplay is going to be fun.

That My Castle mode looks super, super cool. Looking forward to tinkering with that.

the stripping and face/boob rubbing stuff is weird

Stripping? I've seen the face rubbing thing, but first I'm hearing about stripping?

Nintendo officially (and truly) confirmed that there will be two versions of Fire Emblem Fates...along with a really interesting other bit about marriage...here's the full article.

It was already confirmed 'officially' at E3, but you just wouldn't listen for whatever reason

Just read about the rubbing/stripping thing. Kinda weird, but whatever. None of it seems too dirty, or horrifying. Risque for sure, but I don't think it's that bad. NoA will probably cut all that. Gotta make it nice and clean for all the little kids that play Fire Emblem

I doubt it, I don't think they see it as a kiddy series really.

I never heard Nintendo say it! I didn't get to watch the treehouse, and the trailer at the digital event didn't say Birthright or Conquest. That's all. Never said it wasn't going to happen, just that I didn't hear Nintendo say it until now.

well from what i've been reading they censored the dlc for NA for awakening so that you don't see tharja's bikini bottom, which is less risque or w/e then the content in this new one

Yep. Methinks that stripping/rubbing stuff is going to get censor or tweaked enough that it can be considered family friendly.

First I've heard of that Awakening censorship. I mean, they're releasing a spin-off FE game at the beginning of next year that has all kinds of partial nudity and jiggly anime *******.

Damnit Japan...

(reads spoilers about potential relationship options in Nohr...)

Double damnit Japan...

Fire Emblem Fates
comes in two version, Birthright and Conquest, which will have their own stories and exclusive characters. The game is also getting a third version as an additional DLC scenario. Dengeki shares a few more details on the upcoming DLC.

Regardless of which version you play, you’ll get to unlock the other route as a DLC for 2,000 yen, by choosing “open a new future” option on the main menu. Once you purchase an alternate scenario, the game will add three save data to go with it. Dengeki reports that the third scenario, which will have you face another group, rather than the Black or White Kingdom, will release in Japan sometime in the middle of July. There will also be additional stages and other content available to download.

As previously reported, the third scenario will have just about the same amount story volume as Fire Emblem Awakening, and so will both sides of the story from the Black Kingdom and White Kingdom.

feif_02_cs1w1_591x264_thumb.jpg

Additionally, there are two new 3DS themes that are now available for 200 yen each. The Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright will feature characters from the White Kingdom with Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, Sakura, with their family crest design for the folders. There will be music that represents the morning glow with a solemn background.

The theme for Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is based on the Black Kingdom, with characters like Marx, Camilla, Leon, and Elise. It also has their family crest on the folders, along with a calm background music that represents the quiet night of the Black Kingdom.

Fire Emblem If is slated for release in Japan on June 25, 2015 and in the West in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.

Fire Emblem Fates Has Online Multiplayer Battles. June 25, 2015 . 8:00am

The online mode involves 5-on-5 deathmatch battles using a team of units from your save files.

Fire Emblem Fates is out in Japan today, and it has an online multiplayer mode, user Icy Toast over at the Serene’s Forest forums reports. The online mode involves 5-on-5 deathmatch battles using a team of units from your save files.

The online battle mode allows for battles with both friends as well as random players. Random battles can be played with standard rules or with limitations to eliminate the effect of certain items. There’s no fog of war either. Additionally, there’s also a mode for local battles between 3DS users.

For more details, check out Serene’s Forest.

Fire Emblem Fates’ Bisexual Characters Are Shara And Zero.July 1, 2015 . 12:33pm

Both characters are bisexual, and can still marry units of the opposite gender.
[YT]SXgnHjt_Y2M[/YT]
Zero’s Courtship Scene w/ Male Avatar

Earlier this month, Nintendo revealed that players could marry one of two characters of the same gender in Fire Emblem: Fates. If the player chooses Birthright and has a female avatar, they will be able to marry Shara. If the player chooses Conquest and has a male avatar, they will be able to marry Zero. Both characters will be available in a third DLC episode as well.

Shara is actually the child of Tsukuyomi, a unit that joins the player in Chapter 8 of Birthright. Shara is a peculiar character, comparable to Tharja from Fire Emblem: Awakening in her bluntness, and goes so far as to stalk those she believes may be compatible with her.

Zero, on the other hand, is not the child of another unit. A former thief, Zero is known for his sadistic nature and enjoys watching people suffer. Both characters are bisexual, and can still marry units of the opposite gender.

Fire Emblem: Fates will be released in the United States and Europe sometime in 2016.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright Sold More Than Conquest In Japan. July 3, 2015 . 11:01am

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, the easier of the two versions, outsold Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest in Japan.

Last week, Nintendo released Fire Emblem Fates in Japan. For the first time in the series’ history, the game is available in two versions—Birthright and Conquest—and between both versions, Fates sold 260,675 copies at launch.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create reports that Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright sold approximately 154,000 copies, while Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest sold 107,000 copies. Given that the Birthright version of the game is the more straightforward of the two and is meant to attract casual players, it isn’t surprising to see that it sold more.

Additionally, a limited edition version of Fire Emblem Fates containing both versions sold another 42,991 copies, bringing total first-week sales to 303,666 units at launch.

The important thing to note here is that the aforementioned figures account for retail sales. However, in Japan, buying one version of Fire Emblem Fates allows the user to download the other version at a steep discount, and these download sales are not reflected above. Additionally, buying Fire Emblem Fates as a download title has other benefits as well, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a higher number of people than usual opted to go the digital route this time around.

Hopefully, at some point in the future, Nintendo will shed light on total sales of Fire Emblem Fates, including both retail and download copies sold.

Fire Emblem Fates amiibo Break The Fourth Wall, Talk About Super Smash Bros.. July 6, 2015 . 12:35pm

Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin from the Super Smash Bros. series of amiibo are all compatible with Fire Emblem Fates, and scanning them in leads to some funny conversations.
Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin from the Super Smash Bros. series of amiibo are all compatible with Fire Emblem Fates. The characters can be scanned in the My Castle area of the game. After scanning them, they will appear in your plaza and challenge you to a battle. Speaking to them will produce some humorous fourth-wall dialogue about their time in Super Smash Bros.

Robin has the most straightforward recollection of his time as a fighter in another game, saying “I have the strangest feeling that before coming here, I battled against many combatants… launching people, getting launched…”

When speaking with Ike in the plaza, he tells the player that “I just remembered… before coming here, I matched up against countless warriors from all over the world to hone my skills.” When you enter battle, the camera zooms in on Ike, who performs his iconic taunt from Super Smash Bros.

Continuing the trend, Lucina has much of the same memories that Robin and Ike do. After stating that she’s come here to challenge you, she mentions “that battleground,” a place where she “honed her skills by matching up against competitors from around the world.”

Finally, there’s Marth. He claims that he’s happy to see you again, then continues, saying: “As we spoke before, my bonds with everyone have deepened through battle.” He then claims that he wants to know more about you, and then challenges you to a fight.

After defeating the amiibo fighters in a battle, they will ask to join your party. The main character will mention that s/he’s “is in the middle of an adventure,” to which they will each respond differently. Robin reflects on his own adventure, having fought many powerful enemies and making good friends.

Ike notes that by following you, he’ll become more powerful. Lucina notes that she came to this world to borrow your power, a nod to her role in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Marth notes that he understands you better now, and would like to join you without interrupting your journey.

Fire Emblem Artist Spotlight: Katsuyoshi Koya. July 8, 2015 . 6:31pm

Katsuyoshi Koya led character design on Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, but stepped down for Thracia 776. Read about him inside.

The Fire Emblem series has undergone some dramatic visual changes since its 1990 debut on the Nintendo Entertainment system with Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. The illustrators responsible for Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Gaiden remain unknown, but the games’ art is often mistakenly credited to Katsuyoshi Koya, a name that has consequently become synonymous with the Fire Emblem series.

Koya joined Nintendo in 1994 and headed the character design for the Super Nintendo’s Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, and reprised his role as character design lead in 1996’s Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. When development for Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 began, Koya stepped down. Shouzo Kaga, the series director who left Intelligent Systems after that game, noted in the Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War art book that “Koya and I both thought his contributions weren’t quite up to par,” pointing to differences between Kaga’s own drawings and Koya’s original designs.

Above are some images from the art book. You can view more of Koya Katsuyoshi’s work from the Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War art book in this gallery.

[YT]dt8tyYAQ_5o[/YT]

Video of Bealphareth’s introduction

After stepping down, Koya joined the development team for Bealphareth, an action-RPG developed for the PSone by Zealsoft, as the lead character designer. He worked closely with Masaya Kuzume (Panel de Pon, Tetris Attack), the sound composer for Mystery of the Emblem whom he knew from his time with Nintendo and Intelligent Systems. After the game’s release in 2000, Koya was approached by NTT Publishing Co., Ltd. and asked to provide illustrations for the newly dreamed up Fire Emblem Trading Card Game. This is where the bulk of Koya’s legacy was formed.

The Fire Emblem Trading Card Game was never released outside of Japan, and it didn’t include characters from Fire Emblem Gaiden, The Binding Blade, Fire Emblem, The Sacred Stones, or Path of Radiance. Instead, the series focused on Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776, and Mystery of the Emblem. Though he was not the original character illustrator for these titles, his illustrations for the TCG have widely replaced contemporary representations of the games.

In fact, some of the Unit Portraits for characters from Genealogy and Thracia 776 used in Fire Emblem: Awakening for DLC and SpotPass characters feature Koya’s work over the original character designer’s. Koya’s final contribution to the Fire Emblem videogame series was artwork for Lena and Barst, who appeared in the GBA version of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.

Tomorrow, we’ll talk about Mayumi Hirota.

The third scenarios sees the player make a startling discovery that causes them to side with neither kingdom, and will instead attempt to unite both sides to face a greater threat. You’ll be able to develop your character with a high degree of freedom in the same way you can during the White Night Kingdom story.

Take A Look At Fire Emblem Fates’ Third Scenario, Invisible Kingdom. July 8, 2015 . 9:43pm

“Between the White Kingdom and Black Kingdom… is the Invisible Kingdom.”

Fire Emblem Fates’ third scenario just released in Japan, and it’s been revealed as Fire Emblem Fates: Invisible Kingdom. Nintendo shared a look at the teaser for the new scenario.

In the video, they show Aqua jumping off a bridge, and what appears to be the protagonist jumping down to save her. Following is a message that reads “between the White Kingdom and Black Kingdom… is the Invisible Kingdom.”

The third scenario is available as a 2,000 DLC. As previously mentioned, all three scenarios of Fire Emblem Fates are said to have about the same amount of content as Fire Emblem Awakening.

Fire Emblem Fates will release in the West in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.

Fire Emblem Fates’ Azura Being Voiced By Rena Strober. July 10, 2015 . 8:57am

You may recognize her name from her work in the English dub for Sailor Moon R, in which Strober voiced Esmeraude.

Rena Strober has announced that she’ll be providing the voice for Azura in the English version of Fire Emblem Fates on her official Twitter account.

You may recognize her name from her work in the English dub for Sailor Moon R, in which Strober voiced Esmeraude. She’s also credited as the voice of Hope in Camouflaj’s République.

Azura plays a pivotal role in the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Her situation mirrors that of the protagonist—she is a princess of Nohr, but was captured and withheld by the Hoshido family.

In the Japanese version of the game, Azura’s speaking voice and singing voice are provided by two actors—Lynn and Renka, respectively. Strober, on the other hand, will provide both the singing and speaking voice for Azura. You can hear her in a trailer for Fire Emblem Fates right here.

Fire Emblem Artist Spotlight: Mayumi Hirota. July 10, 2015 . 4:58pm

In the Fire Emblem: Treasure art book, Shouzou Kaga details his infatuation with Hirota’s character designs.

When Koya Katsuyoshi left Nintendo and Intelligent Systems after Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Mayumi Hirota, who also worked on Genealogy, took his place as the character designer for Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. In the Fire Emblem: Treasure art book, Kaga details his infatuation with Hirota’s character design.

“When I saw her drawing, a bolt of electricity ran through my body. ‘This is it!’ I thought to myself. After that, I had her draw illustrations as a test, and as I saw it my thoughts changed into absolutions. She created things that I couldn’t be happier with. That’s how we came to ask Hirota to do Genealogy, and we also have her lined up to do [Thracia 776].”

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
took place between Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Hirota provided illustrations of characters that Koya had worked with in the game’s predecessor, in addition to the massive cast of 52 playable characters that appear in the game. Kaga believed that Genealogy and Thracia 776 were the best games in the series, as they dealt with “how people’s mistakes can change the world.” However, Thracia 776 would be the last Fire Emblem game both Kaga and Hirota would work on… technically.

Kaga left Nintendo and Intelligent Systems in 2000, and Hirota followed in tow. He founded his own studio called Tirnanog and began development on a similar tactical role playing game named Emblem Saga—though the game’s name was changed to Tearing Saga: Chronicle of the War Hero Yutona after Nintendo filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement.

The game debuted on the PSone and was published by Enterbrain. It bore several similarities to other Fire Emblem titles, but the element that made the two indistinguishable was its character design.

Tearing Saga: Berwick Saga, a PS2 title developed and published by Enterbrain, is the last game that Hirota was credited for. However, much like Koya, her artwork was featured extensively in the Fire Emblem Trading Card Game, which had a print run of nearly six years. The drawings used for the TCG came almost exclusively from the Fire Emblem: Trahcia 776 Illustrated Works art book, published just before Hirota left Nintendo with Kaga.

Senran Kagura Writer Worked On Fire Emblem Fates’ Third Story Path. July 14, 2015 . 10:15pm

Yukinori Kitajima worked on Fire Emblem Fates.

Fire Emblem Fates’ story concept was penned by Shin Kibayayashi, the author behind the Get Backers and Psychometrer Eiji manga series. However, Kibayashi wasn’t the only prolific writer involved with the game—Fates’ third story path, Invisible Kingdom, was written by Yukinori Kitajima.

If you haven’t heard of him before, Kitajima is a well-known videogame writer that has been around for a few years now. In recent years, his script-writing company, Synthese, has been involved in some capacity with Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, Time Travelers, Okamiden, Chaos Rings, 428: In the Blocked City, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, and more. Kitajima and his Synthese staff are also the main scenario writers for the Senran Kagura series.

[Note: Back in 2011, Siliconera conducted the very first English interview for Senran Kagura, well before the game had been announced for Western release. At the time, series producer Kenichiro Takaki touched upon how Kitajima came to be involved with the franchise, and emphasized his influence on the story.]

Kitajima announced his involvement with Fire Emblem Fates via his Twitter account, revealing that he penned the scenario for the downloadable Invisible Kingdom story path. In addition, Kitajima says, he and other Synthese staff also wrote the support conversations for the Birthright and Conquest story paths.

While developing Fire Emblem Fates, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo made a conscious effort to provide the game with a strong story, as they felt the story in Fire Emblem: Awakening had been lacking in complexity. Upon failing to find a writer within the videogame industry that fit their requirements, Intelligent turned to Shin Kibayashi, who has done most of his work under various pen names. Kibayashi then went on to write an extensive outline for each of the game’s three story paths.

Fire Emblem Fates will be released in the West in 2016.

Update: More background on Kitajima and Synthese added.
