Firefly's Fillion Moves into Castle

It does, and it's a nice break from the rest of the season's disappointing storyline.

It only took seven seasons for it to happen in probably the last.

She'll probably be the death knell of the series. :o

‘CASTLE’ EPS ARE RELUCTANT TO CONTINUE THE SHOW WITHOUT NATHAN FILLION AND STANA KATIC

Castle without Castle? It’s a scenario that seems to be becoming more of a reality every day.

As ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee announced earlier this month, there is a possibility of continuing the show without the principle characters if stars Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion don’t renew their contracts. While on the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Lee told audiences that the creative team had some “good ideas” about where to take the show if Castle (Fillion) and Beckett (Katic) were to say goodbye. But now, executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are singing a different, weary tune about the prospect of having to cope without their main characters.

“If we had our choice, it would be the same cast, it would be the same show,” Hawley told TVGuide.com in a new interview. “We’ve done some fun stuff this year so that it has a little different energy that could absolutely carry through to a season 9. But both of us are very invested in this, and we understand that Castle has always been about Beckett and Castle. So the idea of that not happening is daunting, and we’re rooting against that.”

Castle, which premiered on ABC 2009, follows crime novelist Richard Castle as he tags along with NYPD detective Kate Beckett on her cases to help the investigation and spark inspiration for his writing. A quirky, unlikely pair, Castle and Beckett’s chemistry has led to a love story that fans of the show can’t get enough of. Even though it wasn’t always a ratings darling, Castle has secured a dedicated fanbase over its six year run. Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion have both won back-to-back People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Crime Drama Actress and Actor in 2015 and 2016.

So, with the fate of the main characters still up in the air, Haley knows the writers will have to craft a season finale that could serve as a series finale if need be.

“In a perfect world, we’ll have clarity going into the end of the season,” he explained “Obviously, there wasn’t clarity last season until the very, very end.”

Keep an eye out for where Castle and Beckett are headed next as Castle returns for season 8 on Monday, Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

I think they should end the series this season. It's running out of steam. I don't really want to see it continue without Castle and Beckett. And even without Beckett, it is rather boring as we've seen earlier this season.

There are only two ways I see to continue this series without Fillion and Katic. Recast the actors but keep the characters or have Alexis take up Castle's pen, so to speak, and carry on the series.

Frankly I can't see either of those happening and I don't think "Castle" without the title character or his partner/wife is going to attract an audience (given what they did to the characters this season they'd be lucky to have any audience left). Even recasting the actors is an incredibly dicey move.

Definitely better if they just frame the season finale as a series finale and let it go.

The show doesnt work without Castle and Beckett.
It was the reason the show became a hit in the first place.

I understand that they would want to hang onto the fanbase and all...but it is not that easy.

The Show had a good run since its beginning, but its clear that the show has reached its potential.
Instead of forcefully stretching it out...let it end on a good and relative high note.

Personally i had hoped that the show makes it to 10 seasons...but the last season and this seasons story, hit the show pretty hard.

Give it a strong last season half, listen to the fans and let it end.

The show without Castle and Beckett would do about as well as I expect the 24 without Jack Bauer to do. Look at the X Files, it put up those huge numbers because of Mulder and Scully, if they hadn't came back I doubt many would have bothered watching.

These shows don't sustain popularity because of the story and concept, it's always the characters that keep people watching, audiences form a kind of bond with them, remove them and no one will care.

Castle without Katic AND Fillion is the stupidest idea I've heard in a while!

After how this season has been so far I am more prepared for it to end than to continue, even if Fillion and Katic returned for another season.

Last season's finale could've been the series finale. It might've been better if they left it as that. Go out on a high instead of dragging it out and limping to a finish.

Castle returned this week, and it was a boring episode to start on. All this time waiting, and only to return to this. The plot was complete filler and meandering with no direction. I don't like this facade that Castle and Beckett are putting on either with pretending to cheat on the other and having these public fights. It just drags everything out. I don't think people want to see this, but for it to just return to its classic format.

It really feels like it has run out of steam, and the long break makes me realise I didn't really miss it, especially when this is what we have to look forward to.

I still haven't watched it yet although I plan to tonight or tomorrow. I'm somewhat looking forward to it but hearing it is another filler episode that keeps pushing the "seperated" storyline does not sound encouraging.

It was a meh episode. They better end it this season, man.

I thought it was a fun episode, I like how Castle often finds these niche bits of culture to fit into their mysteries. As for them playing up the break-up to Ryan and Espo, I think it has some potential for humour over a couple of eps.

The episode was not bad...but the whole thing with pretending to "hate" each other is just stupid.

It makes the other characters look dumb, and the main characters feel like they are straight from a comedy show.

For so many seasons you had martha, alexis and all the others...be so aware of the whole Castle/Beckett thing, but now they dont see how extremly over the top they act?

It could have been a nice change of pace and would have made for some funny scenes...but the way they wrote it here is just awful imo.

I dont know, i feel like the show cant really get back up from the hit it took.

I didn't mind the episode. Maybe because it was away for so long I missed it and just took what I could get. IDK. I thought it was funny and am glad it's back. Now my patience for the over-arching story is waning though. They really need to resolve it fast.

Has anyone seen these Firefly Malcolm Reynolds figures by Quantum Mechanix?

It's a pretty good likeness of Nathan Fillion. I could see someone making a Castle custom. Of course, this would be Season 1 Castle, as he's put on quite a bit of weight since then.

But we'd need one of Stana Katic as well, except that she hasn't been in another series that would produce a figure of her.

I actually liked the two episodes that were aired this week. Probably it's telling they didn't play up the Castle-Beckett rivalry thing and that made things a lot better.

Might just be me, but outside of the early annoying stuff with Castle and Beckett, which was basically the usual OTT melodrama that happens every season on this show other then the first, I have really like this season. Fun case, fun mysteries, and Alexis is actually around. :atp:

I enjoyed the double ep, the Russian one was particularly good fun. :DI thought the courtroom ep would spend more time in the actual court but it was still a good mystery.

I've only watched the courtroom one so far, which was a vast improvement over the mid season premiere.

Which was better out of the two episodes? Was the 2nd one frivolous and lacking focus like the Tone Death one?

I just want them to be done with this Locksat story which is quite boring. I don't even care about it and hope they'll resolve it long before the season's end.
