First Q/A answers released from Penn

I definitely would've been all for that. I would've still opened with a Danger Room sequence, though.

The way I would've opened X3 is this: Cyclops is in there reinacting what happened at Alkali Lake, except this time, Cyke saves Jean. Logan comes in, same exchange as the real film, Logan grabs his arm, Cyke then tells him to shove off. Then, they fight to a draw, seperated by Xavier. Xavier coldly admonishes Scott, telling him "The Danger Room is no place for psychodrama, Scott." Scott leaves in a huff. Logan is left surprised at Xavier's response, to which Xavier responds, "A leader must put the needs of team over his own desires."

Of course, in my X3, Cyke and Logan would've worked together to stop Jean, which that scene would have foreshadowed. Oh well, we can always dream, can't we?
that sounds really good as well

- 9/11 happened at the towers, in the middle of a crowded city, with dozens of exits and accesses. Cannot compare that scenario to the ISLAND with a BRIDGE as it's only exit.

Um, Manhattan is an island. The only ways in or out are by bridge, tunnel, or ferry. The only reason I was stuck in NYC all day was because all of those routes were closed.

The towers are way downtown. I was in midtown, near the Empire State building which was closed down in fear that something might go off and destroy that too.

TRUST ME. It would be easy for a terrorist to get lost in a crowd. And I hope you never know what that feeling is like.

And that being said...I think he could have gotten away.

im not changing my tune.. i have hope.. but if fox really had that big of a grudge then i dont see how they would let him... though i have hope and will always have hope...

I had hope during the production. When the scripts review came out I thought Fox would notice the outcry of Cyke fans complaining that he dies in the scripts. Then all the marketing with Cyke in his uniform and all, I thought they just wanted to play with our emotions a bit and that he would actually live leaving us guessing if he did or not. Then came the movie which was exactly what the Script review said about Cyke...so all the hope I had in Fox actually being smart was gone and I don't expect them to change now.

well lets hope they learn from there half assed mistake and redeem themselves in another movie

Well even though I don't trust this guy after seeing "Incident at Lochness",(just kidding) I think he sounds capable enough about his supposed X kids spin off. He would like to bring Rogue back, so that's a plus.

and he atleast listens to the fans, that's a good thing.

I'd be interested to see what he could do with an X-kids film.

Cyclops: "Sit down and do your homework!"
X-kids: "We don't have to listen to you. You're not Wolverine!"

I'm a little late on this but did anyone else laugh when Penn said that Cyclops would have still been non-existent even if Spielberg had directed the movie? Zak must be living in a dream world b/c Spielberg can basically do anything he wants...

great answers from Mr Penn. Actually some people should thank them, because Cyclops would be simply forgotten in X3, which, IMHO, would be worse then what we got. (Actually i like him in the movie).
Also good to know Angel was supposed to wear the X-unfiorm in the movi, and that he is disappointed to not see the Phoenix effect.

But maybe what he said is right. The studio had to make this film on that time, or the actors might not be avaiable. STILL, if Fox truly cared for the franchise they would give more 5 months to post production, and then we would have a 10 times better film, with tidal waves, Phoenix and etc.

On a side note, im not really watching the Wolv spin-off, unless it has Rogue, Storm, Cyclops or Gambit in it :p
im tired of that bub ruling three movies already.

Actually the studio still has no excuse. They waited forever to sign on the actors again and b/c of that they went and joined other projects. They should have been contacted as soon as possible post-X2.

Wow...
Let me say, I already conceded the idea of him escaping being feasible, about 4 pages back, although I still think it not likely.

- 9/11 literally had THOUSANDS of people running to evacuate, again, an island with several access points. The authorities of that day have admitted that they were overwhelmed, and rightly so.

- X3, while amazing, had nowhere near the same amount of overwhelming circumstances or people, or exits to maintain. The authorities had nothing to do with the Island event and were at least 200 feet away... at the only exit/access point. Not to mention the president had indicated that other support ground troups were on the way some 20 minutes before the ending of the events.

-Magneto was an old man, non-powered and exhausted from the strain of the cure serum.

yeah, I suppose it's possible... but FOR ME, not likely.

Shows how much you know X-men :o :down

You said Marsden chose to take another role where he loses the girl.I was responding to that comment.

As for X3 I bet I know way more about the production than you do. ;)

Considering how much Ian was in X2, 2 weeks is incredible.

Then again, Cyke wouldn't need to be in X3 as much as Ian was in X2 for an appropriate role. So in two or three weeks, I don't think filming lots of Cyke stuff would have been too straining. Yeah, some scenes would have to be done with other actors and that would matter, and the Final Battle would be a big issue because I'm sure there was a lot of planning around that - but it could probably done with a green screen, and I think they did pickups laters - I'm sure James could have made it for something like that.

Basically, if Fox was willing to put in the effort, IMHO it could have been done.

Fox was not interested in putting in the effort.

Exactly. People keep talking about Marsden being available and that the writers should've come up with more for him to do but Fox didn't want him in the movie at all. His scenes were a concession nothing more. Marsden saying that Fox kindly worked with Warners to work out his schedule is him being much nicer than he owes them. I'm sure what he tells his family and friends in private is much different.

I'd love to hear his real POV (no way he is happy with x-3 and I believe he hints it in many places).

Well, in a recent interview, he DID make a subtle jab at Ratner's directing style and how he preferred Singers approach...

Yes but I want the dirt :p

It's funny with Marsden, anytime he's being asked about X3, he doesn't have mcuh to say. I don't blame him since he didn't have a lot to do..

keep in mind James is an actor, the less arguings he has with studios, the most films he has a chance of being in. He needs to feed his kids, thats why he is so nice about FOX, IMHO.

I wonder if James even KNOWS what went on Behind The Scenes before Shooting & reading the Script

i do remember someone (i think Avi Arad) saying Cyclops wasnt confirmed in the movie, or wouldnt have a part at all, and then James called him and said "What are you saying?" or something like that. And then he went with that "I'd do X3 for free" and yadda yadda yadda

I remeber something... No link?

If its any consolation, I also remember reading that on the boards last year...

:)

I can't even believe that the writers would say that the seeds were planted since x-1 for wolverine to take over cyclops role...this just makes me mad....how could they even say something like that...that is just so wrong that a writer of a x-men movie could write a character into another characters role...
