The salt is for flavor. I prefer to always use sea salt myself, but kosher will do. Oil doesn't do ****, and the more water the better. The right pasta shouldn't clump anyway, and should take longer than cheap pasta to cook.

You are ahead of the game then. Barilla uses durum semolina and cooks up very well. Some chefs will argue that Italian brands of dried pasta are the only way to go, but there are some very good American brands. I find most "fresh" pastas they sell in the refrigerator sections lack flavor and character. They are too moist to begin with and tend to get over done and soggy easily. There are a few shops in San Francisco that make fantastic dried pastas on site, and I tend to buy pasta there a lot. Your best bet would be sticking with Barilla, or trying Garofalo which you can pick up at Costco, if you have one nearby (membership is worth it). Garofalo has great mouth feel, flavor and texture. It's rough surface really holds the sauce well, and it's well balanced.

That's not hot pink, those are like those red redlight glasses thingies when exposed to a bright light source (like a camera flash, for example).

It seems to be a very low quality molding. I hope the actual movie toys aren't that cheap looking and are more on par with the classics or alternators line.
