Comics Flash....

I think this deserves its own thread. Who else is a little peeved by what they have done to Flash? He has been a great character in the comics. He and Pete becoming good friends, Pete trying to help Flash out when he messes up his life (cheating on his girlfriend with a married woman in Betty), drinking problems and him yearning to have what Peter and MJ have. I mean Flash was best man to Peter's weeding for crying out loud. It would great to see this Flash react to the unmasking (which for the record I am still not too keen about in my opinion) as he could feel betrayed by his best friend never telling him this.

But reverting him back to when he wakes up "I hate puny Parker." In fact making him come out of his stupor after being nursed by MJ and Pete into a burn out jerk who looks about 50 who has "partial amnesa" and only remembers high school (what kinda' bull**** is that?) just so he can ben ******* to Pete again?

I really think they ****ed up his character. But this is my opinion though and I seek what others think too then.

Some of the development that Flash went through during the eighties and nineties was really well done. Also his accident really showed how much his relationship with Pete had strengthened over the years because he, MJ, and Liz were the only ones around to look out for the guy. This amnesia bull is more than just a cop out, it disgraces the last 40 years of history...I guess that shouldn't be surprising though.

It was worse right before the accident, actually. They reverted him back to being a jerk, for NO reason.

Marvel Taking a dump on 40 years of Spidey continuity... Puh-Lease! like THAT would happen... It's not like they've unmasked him on national TV, made him a spider-jesus, given him huge Wolverine-esque spikes, have Gwen sleep with Norman Osborn and give birth to Goblin children, having one of those Goblin kids put the moves on Peter, have Peter join the avengers to become a Glorified Antman, or make him a dumbass tool of the iron drunk... at least he's not a rapist...

but seriously maybe Flash has Multiple Personality Disorder... there's Jerk Flash, Savage Flash, nice guy Flash... hell let's douse Flash in gamma rays so we can have a new Hulk...

the crash should have killed him. that way it could have been another "turning point" in peter's life.

i wana ask though -- what school lets the driver who drunkenly smashed into it come back as their PE teacher?? weird.

It is like maybe the comics stopped with Peter and MJ getting back together and Ezkeiel dying. I am really starting to want to pretend that that happened.

I thought a great what if story would be Pete dying when he is like 35-50 in a final battle with GG and having been unmasked while doing it and it is on TV. Just everyone's reaction and him finally getting a hero's funeral in death and his wife AND children (I want him to have kids DAMMIT) and friends (including the real Flash) can talk about his life and he earns his love in death.

But him being unmasked in main continuity now....eh. And Flash is just another mistake Marvel has made. Civil War is a good idea but the execution of it has essientially executed the Spider-Man character (I just don't see him siding against CA and DD and what he morally knows is right because "the law is right" and Iron Drunkard told him so).

It is funny how much the stories, ASM especially, drastically changed right after JRJR left. JMS was writing some solid stuff, it wasn't groundbreaking, but he wasn't hated like he is now. Pete and MJ were written really well and they actually had a relationship, not this dedicate one page per comic to them talking and that's it. Peter had a job that he was actually showing up to and the whole teaching bit was really a nice change. No one's lives were being destroyed, mystical things happened but not to The Other's extent, and the comic were just a nice read...now it feels too much like a burden.
