My little brother just bought a movie Sandman action figure. The back reads:

"Driven to a life of crime by the desire to save his sick daughter, Flint Marko never intended to hurt anyone, and he sure didn't intend to get turned into a walking pile of sand. Now that he's become the SANDMAN, nothing will come in between of him being with his wife and daughter, not even SPIDER-MAN."

Seems like they're trying to make Sandman into a sympathetic character. It's bad enough that they're making him Uncle Ben's killer, but this just annoys me.

(I'm glad to be starting a thread about Sandman since everyone seems to have forgotten about him, haha)

You do know that Sandman is not an evil guy in the comics. He was just a petty thug. He never killed anyone in his career as Sandman.

He even turned good for years and joined Silver Sable and her team. Fought with the Avengers, too.

William Baker was born in Queens, New York. At the age of three, William was abandoned by his father and forced to live in poverty with his mother. Throughout high school, William turned to theft and cheating to get through class and to make ends meet at home. After accepting a bribe, Baker was expelled from school and soon found work as a mob enforcer. Under the alias Flint Marko, Baker became involved in more and more illegal activity, and slowly developed a violent and bitter personality.

It doesn't to me. Somehow I think is going to work very well in the movie.

I agree on that, I never forgot about him. I'm more excited on seeing him rather than Venom.

D!

Doc Ock and Tempest just made Anti-Venom look like a fool :p

I wonder if Spider-Man is going to throw a pumpkin bomb at Sandman's family.

/\ No because the audience would HATE Spider-Man... throwing a bomb at a child? That's just sadistic...

Sandy's Daughter: Mommy why is that man with the big white eyes throwing pumpkin bombs at us. Mommy wake up, get up, why is your head smoking?

Spidey: You're next you little b:tch...!

Where's spiderman getting all these pumpkin bombs from?!

The same place we all get them from, silly :p

I don't want to see a bad guy get powers and then start committing crimes. WHY does he want to committ the crimes? By bringing in a family we can see why he wants to do these things, for money. He doesn't want to take over the world like every other villain out there. Just save his sick kid, who he could never do on a average wage / finance. I think it would hit a nerve with people, and what they would do if confronted with the situation.

True, I didn't like the fact about Sandman being the original killer of Uncle Ben, but I think it will add some more depth to the "black suit" that will make Peter become more aggressive. He'll become very aggressive and vengeful towards his Uncle's killer.

I kinda agree, I mean, at first when i hear about them giving him a sympathetic (family related) backstory, I didn't like it, with sandman I was hopeing for just a petty thug, who happen to of developed powers
someone, who spider-man would have no reason (in terms of personal connections, such as being your best friends farther, or being a mentor type figure to him) to hold back with, and just really let loose on the guy
I kinda wanted a bad guy, who was just a bad guy

but, I am ok with how its turning out
very interested to see how all this plays out

Even petty thugs commit crimes for a reason. Even the worst criminals if put in their shoes will be sympathetic

sandman killed uncle ben by accident
just to let you know. Sandman did those crimes to get through life without the struggles of being poor. Marko couldn't wait or find a better way to get money because his daughter is so sick that she can die soon. and not to mention that Sandman doesn't like the crimes he's committing. hell if he wasn't committing crimes then his daughter would simply die, but Sandman is doing this so that his whole family can get out of this dump they are living and start living a normal life like a regular human being. now the depth of Sandman's character is really interesting, he has sympathy but when it comes to people getting in his way he take care of them which is really without a doubt an interesting character.

And that makes that change a little more acceptable, for me. I'd hate if he did it deliberately, or even worse, gloated about it.

me to. and it makes him not an evil or sadistic person for the fact that it was an accident.

Spidey: You're next you little b:tch...!

That's they way I see it. Spidey's reasoning being that if they are dead, Sandy won't need to commit crimes anymore. :woot:
