A new film by Tyler Perry.
Based on a play

The premise is:
Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, which consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color. It deals with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion.

You know this does look like Tyler Perry's most serious work. And the cast is great. Not one actress I dislike. It's like the female black Expendables (but not really)

However, it just looks so depressing and I'm tired of these movies that make the "black experience" seem so negative. The title is bad too.

I'm still waiting for Tyler Perry's Medea Goes to Hell film.

For once, a Tyler Perry movie that looks good. Or at least has a well-cut trailer and a wonderful cast. But we'll see if Perry's taken some big steps to making a good movie come November 5th.

As long as he doesn't go in drag again. He needs to realize that it's not always automatically hilarious for him to do that.

One thing's for sure, he's giving Janet Jackson some work.

Jackson was dreadful in Why Did I Get Married 2... especially the final climatic scenes with her on-screen husband. But in Colored Girls she actually looks like she's putting effort in.

Tyler Perry is a pretty good friend of mine. I have sold him a few cars that have been used in his movies. He has bought a couple of Chevy Tahoes from me.

That pic kinda reminds me of The Women of Brewster Place.

Wow, lookit that. You'd need a lubed-up baseball bat to hit all that booty.

No! This is just how I am. I'm going to try my hardest to take it as a compliment.

Oh no. not an insult at all. I'm just sayin'.

Arrr! It was directed at ISS. I love random.

Wow that looks depressing as hell, but the cast is great and looks like a very serious film for Perry to do. Most likely my mother and sisters will be watching this, me I'm not so sure lol

Tyler Perry and his crap movies and tv shows needs to go away.

I don't know how that clown go so successful.

Tyler Perry movies are aimed at the low self esteem my fellow black woman have of themselves, and each other.

Btw, is that Thandie Newton on the end? :)

It is Thandie, and she replaced Mariah Carey who dropped out for medical reasons. As close as you can get to Divine intervention in Hollywood. I'm going to hold out hope because this movie is NOT based on one of his plays. He's just directing, and Madea's not in it, and he has assembled an incredible cast of black women, as, unfortunately, only he can do.

It really doesn't hurt that the play/poems it's based on are just frikkin incredible. I particularly like that each character is known by a color, and hence, they are actually differently colored girls, in addition to the play on the derogatory term.

According to the trailer he also wrote the screenplay...

To quote someone from another board:

"...I am a big fan of the book. I think it's a book that all black women should read. The book is so well written that Tyler Perry has to go out of his way to *#$% this up. BUT, he's capable of doing this. He's a #@$%ty writer. If he starts freestyling, he's going to #%*@ this up."
