can i use the 360 Analog stick for the MK vs. DC

I was thinking about making a new thread for this, but I guess I'll just post here, since this thread is directed towards those that own multiple systems.

Basically, I'm in want of a new gaming system and am wondering which one I should get. I don't care too much about online play, and basically want a system that I can spend a few hundred dollars on with confidence that it will still be functioning a year or two from now. I'm not too interested in the Wii, because the controller system just isn't my cup of tea.

I was leaning towards the 360, but then I saw this thread and became concerned with how long I'd be able to actually play the system until it blew up on me. Is this fairly commonplace, or are the people who've had this happen to them the minority?

Does the PS3 have similar problems, or are they prone to surviving a lot longer? I might be willing to pay a bit more for a system that tends to longer lifespan overall.

Or should I just say to hell with the consoles and get a decent gaming computer? That would cost me a lot more, so I wouldn't be able to afford many games, but I don't think I'd have to worry so much about a gaming computer blowing up within the first year. Then again, maybe I'm just ignorant/paranoid. :oldrazz:

The 360's technical problems are exaggerated at times. My friend has had his since launch and has had no problems. Mine has frozen for 2 games (MLB 2k7 and Assassin's Creed).

The best thing to do is look at each console's exclusive games and see which you like more. I suggest trying the Wii out. It's controls can be very fun depending upon the game.

Every system has a chance of failing. People have had their 360s fail as has also been the case with the PS3 and Wii. The 360's failure rate is reported to be at about 16% whereas the other 2 are about 1%. A 360 is more likely to fail on a consumer, but its not a guarantee

You cant go wrong with either the PS3 or 360. I have both and enjoy both systems. I do spend more time with the 360 but thats because i love Live and the majority of my friends are on that system. Take a look at the games and make your decision, its that simple. IMO, id give the edge to the 360 in games however, the PS3 has arguably the greatest achievement in gaming with Metal Gear Solid 4. So, like i said, take a look at each systems library and go from there.

360 - Pros
- XBOX LIVE, need a say more
- Excellent controller, feels really good because it's big, fits comfortably in your own hand.
- HALO............... i dont' need to say anymore
- 1080p resolution for gaming.

360 - Cons
- Batteries............ waste of batteries
- NO FREE XBOX LIVE :(, paying 50 bucks for a year subscription is a drag
- HD-DVD addon (not that people will be buying HD-DVD's soon) can only output 1080i. This is the early version of the 360, the one with no HDMI. I don't know if it's the same for the newer models.
- no Internet browser, you can't browse the net through your 360
- THE RING OF DEATH, don't want to get that, but the good thing about the RING OF DEATH is you have unlimited warrenty on it, but it's such a hassle to shipp the product and wait for it and junk.

PS3 - Pros
- BLURAY...... That is the best feature for the PS3, that it's the latest firmware player for BluRays. Worth the money, not only you get a gaming system, but you get bluray as well
- Metal Gear Solid 4....... need I say more
- Free Online play
- 1080p for both gaming and video playback
- upconverts your current dvd selection to 1080p
- NO BATTERIES...... One of the reasons I love the controller is that it has no batteries, you charge your wireless controller
- Internat Browser, you can browse the internet through the PS3
- quiet....... alittle too quiet
- HDMI port

PS3 - Cons
- Lack of exclusive games/content, GTA and Final Fantasy will be available for the 360 as well

Wii - Pros
- The system has the best famous franchises (Mario and Zelda), you can't go wrong with that, no franchises can compete with these franchises, not COD not HALO not MGS
- Motion sensor technology. IT IS FUN. Seriously, once you try it, you wish you have motion sensor tech for XBOX and PS3..... say playing COD4
- Cheap, it's only $250, AN IPOD COST MORE.
- You can download classic Mario games, get nostalgic feel
- Very small size, it's not big like the other systems
- NOT LOUD

Wii - Cons
- not HD. I dont' consider 480p to be HD. The highest resolution you can get is 480p. So, the system, based on HighDef content, is not there what so ever, which is the biggest Flaw for the system
- graphics, which is related to the HD resolution which is not close to 360/PS3
- lack of adult games. Most of the games are tailored toward utilizing the Wiimote. It's not really a complaint, but it does have a NON-ADULT feel to them.
- batteries, battERIES, BATTERIES. Money waster on batteries.

I'm unfortunate to have all three systems, I have utilized them, so hopefully I can give a better analysis on all three. As you can see hopefully is that the best QUALITY in gaming is the Wii and the 360, while the PS3 has better for MEDIA. PS3 has good gaming as well, but if a game comes out for both the 360 and PS3, I get it for the 360. But if you notice, the PS3 has less CONS than all three systems and has the most PROS than all three systems, that counts for something. But, if I had to choose which system to get if I didn't have all three, that would depend on some factors, and here they are:

I'm more interested in Gaming : XBOX 360
I'm more interested in Media and Gaming : PS3......... if you are not into Halo
I'm more interested in Media : PS3
I want the system that my friends have so I can play online : Depends on your friends
I want better online experience - XBOX 360

Oh, as for the Wii, get it just for the hell of it, seriously. But your main decision is between the 360 and PS3

Did you know they make rechargeable batteries?

"I'm unfortunate to have all three systems"

That must be such a burden to bear.

rechargeable batteries is still batteries. It still cost money to buy the rechargeable device and batteries, and rechargeable batteries aren't forever lasting (which they were but that's life).

Yes, it's such a burden dude, everytime a new game comes out, it's hard to choose whether to buy it for the PS3 or 360. And when I do buy it, I question the choose all the time. With the Wii, I have no problem, but yes it's a huge burden sike.

I'm actually trying to save up and buy an XBox 360, but is the Red Ring of Death inevitable? Like does every 360 experience it sooner or later?

Haha, no, its not a 100% failure rate. I know quite a few ppl who havent had the red rings, yet they keep their consoles in the worst possible places and leave the damn thing on for countless hours, i still dont know how they havent got the RRoD yet.

if you buy the XBOX Elite than you should be fine, if you do get the Ring of Death, you have unlimited warrenty on it.

if anybody is still undecided on getting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe on the 360 or PS3, read this IGN Insider Article:

Price Points
Both versions of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe can be purchased for $59.99. There are also special edition versions for ten dollars more that come with a print by Alex Ross, Velvet box packaging, a comic book, and making-of videos. The PS3 version of the special edition also has a digital version of comic book which is not available on 360.

Content and Control
The latest version of Mortal Kombat feels familiar to the series with a recognizable visual style and tried and true gameplay mechanics. The moves in MK are known for ommitting combinations that have players roll their thumb across the d-pad, using diagonals, like those found in the Street Fighter series. Instead it requires separate inputs like: "forward, forward, A" or "down, back, X." This means that having a precise d-pad is necessary for specifically hitting the four directions.

As we often state in the control section of the Head-To-Head the Xbox 360 d-pad is mushy and imprecise making it difficult to complete quick combos. This gets especially frustrating when trying to perform any of the fatalities that include successively pressing down, left, up, and right buttons. The PS3's d-pad enables players to be much more specific with their presses. Normally the lack of a specific diagonal button harms the controller, but not this time due to the nature of the move sets. Given the opportunity I would recommend using an arcade stick for any fighting game, however the PS3 control pad is the best alternative in this case.

Both versions of Mortal Kombat have the same game options and extras. There's a story mode, arcade mode, multiplayer, training, kombo challenge, and a host of visual and audio configuration options that are identical across the two piece of hardware.

The PS3 build has trophies that match the 360's achievement list which add a bit of extended entertainment to the relatively short story mode.

Overall
1. PS3
2. Xbox 360

Presentation
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is presented identically on both consoles. You'll find the same menu options laid out in the same standard fashion. Graphically, it's difficult to find any differences except for some slight brightness differences that we normally see between PS3 and 360. There are brightness, gamma, and contrast sliders within the game but on the default settings the PS3 comes through a bit brighter.

The only major difference is in the loading times. Players are treated to a character art screen and a progress bar between every mode and fight. The longest of these only lasts around 12 seconds on Xbox 360 but you can shave off a few seconds on PS3. In some instances the PS3 has about half of the load times with the new scene loading before the progress bar even fills up.

Waiting for levels to load doesn't detract much from MK vs. DC but the sheer frequency means that PS3 has an edge in this category. This is without an initial hard drive load.

Overall
1. PS3
2. Xbox 360

The Verdict
Both versions of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe work perfectly well. However, if you're at all interested in competitive play or a stickler for exacting controls you should choose the PS3 version. Either that, or invest in an arcade stick to avoid the 360's d-pad. This combined with the quicker loads on PS3 make this Head-to-Head a clear win for Sony's platform.

Overall
1. PS3
2. Xbox 360

I own all three, and for me, it's a tie between PS3 and Xbox 360. The Wii is terrible, IMO. I'm very happy I didn't pay for it.

thats what I said before and for fighting games, the PS3 is almost always the better choice bcof teh controller. The D-pad on the 360 one is just not made for them

I rented it on 360 this weekend.

I'm not a big MK fan or anything (mostly the first two or three versions)..

The story was pretty decent. I had no problems with the 360 controller. I didn't notice any load times personally.

With the NXE coming out on Friday, chances are that's a moot point with optional HD installs.

Ah, the red rings of death, the most exagerated problem with consumer electronics ever. Yes, some 360s will get the RRoD, but guess what, if you do experience it Microsoft will send you the shipping supplies and repair it for free, that's right, you don't have to pay one cent to fix it.

Anybody know which version of Prince of Persia I should get??? PS3 or 360?

how about Resident Evil 5

Same thing, which controller do you prefer? I found the 360's controller to be better suited for it, but thats just me. It has been noted however that the 360 version runs ever so slightly smoother and has slighty less bugs(none of wich truly hurt the game). The PS3 version also requires a little bit of an install, 5 gigabytes.

I do like the 360 controller better for gaming, but I like playing fighting games for the PS3, because the PS3 controller's dpad is better for fighting. Especially for MK vs. DC Univerise, to pull off fatalities, for me PS3 is better.
