For those of you who ENJOYED the movie ... post your thoughts here ...

Geez, you'd need to be blind to have not seen this coming from Canadian Rider, :p

Now, I'm not exactly a fan of Ghost Rider, but this movie has helped me to appreciate just how cool a flaming skeleton decked out like the Terminator can be. I was impressed by this movie, it really exceeded my expectations. It had it's funny flaws, like these movies will, but it was good. I liked how it got reasonably graphic when it needed to (i.e. Cage's first transformation).

Thumbs up from the Mad Bull.

Saw it again and it was great. Staid for credits- that song is rockin'! And, is it me, or does there seem to be some kind of "must see again" feeling directly after leaving the theater?

Must be addicted to hell fire.

It's a fascinating concotion of a film. Part western, part action flick, part horror movie, part tall tale, part arthouse movie, part wtf was that, and part circus.

I

liked

it.

So, I'm finally getting a chance to talk about how I felt about the movie. Now, before I do, I realize that my opinion is somewhat biased due to how closely I feel I've been involved with the movie, not with making any decisions or anything but just feeling a little more on the inside than most. Having said that, I still huge fan of movies. I'm guy who not only watches lots of them but, as an actor, has an deep understanding of how they work. Regardless, this is just my opinion. Take it as you will.

Because I'm posting this in this particular thread, it's kinda obvious that I'm a fan of the movie. A huge fan. It still baffles me that the critics were so hard on it, though I don't think I would have expected anything less... because frankley, what do they know. I mean, this film is already a classic case of the critics being way out of tune with the movie goer. To me (and apparently many others), the creators of this film succeeded very well in creating a extremely fun movie that audiences obviously enjoy. There's a reason why it's making money and it's because (in the audience I was part of anyway) people are finding this to be a a wonderfully fun movie.

Me, I like fun movies. I like movies that take me on a ride and this one certainly does that. It's funny, it's kinda disturbing, it's exciting, it's lovable... it's everything you could really want in a movie going experience. I (and my date) had a great time and I can't wait to do it again.

To get a little more specific, what I really think is best about this flick, as a fan of the character, is that Mark (and his film making posse) have successfully created a movie that honored 3 completely different versions of the character. That's a tough thing to do and I think he/they succeeded admirably. The Johnny Blaze story with Dan Ketch imagery told in a Carter Slade kinda way really worked. Bravo.

What I also really enjoyed was the choice to make this a gothic western. There were a lot of great shots that where throw backs to old westerns; close ups on the eyes, show downs in the park, the ever awesome cowboy mentor (of course I'm talking about the always amazing Sam Elliot). It really made for some incredible scenes and sequences.

The tone of the film was great and while I was a little worried about the amount of humor that was going to be there, I found myself really liking it. I thought there was a perfect mix and personally believe that the humor worked so well because the darkness was so intense at times. The mix of humor and darkness was great, again creating that wonderful ride that I enjoyed so much. To me, when an audience reacts this much and so vocally while watching, it's a success. Sure, some people wanted a fully dark intense movie but, the comic was never that way and having the mix of light and dark was exactly what I would have wanted.... and got.

Now, Ghost Rider himself, a character I've seen animated only in my own head for over a decade, how did I like him? Well, simply, he was amazing. Many hats should go off for the digital effects team on this one who obviously spent an enormous amount of time doing this. They really pulled it off. His skull was perfect, they flames incredible and the combination of that and the human actor/stunt person worked brilliantly. To me, this is Oscar worthy stuff... not that I really hold a lot of high regard to their choices. What I really mean is that they should get some sort of high recognition for these achievements because it was some of the most amazing digital work I've ever seen.

As for the character aspects of, well, the character, I also found these perfect (well, almost). I loved that he was a juggernaut/terminator and his pursuit for vengeance unstoppable. I loved the amount of destruction he left in his path. I loved his voice. I loved the amount of powers they had him use as he does have quite an arsenal. Ghost Rider himself, in this movie, was absolutely perfect and to me, that's A OK because that's what I was going to this movie for. Ghost Rider is what I love in the comics. It's not so much the human that he inhabits for me. My love of the character is the demon inside and they nailed it.

The only negative thing I can say, and it's minor because I understand why they did it that way in the movie is that there was a little too much Blaze in Ghost Rider. There wasn't so much a sense of two different beings most of the time. That's okay though because it really works in this film and they did explain/develop Blaze being able to take control. Instead of Blaze fighting it like he did in the comics, he accepted it, much like Ketch did in his run. It all works and again shows how impressive the mix of Ghost Rider's worked.

As for the other characters, I gotta say, everybody was great. Though the Johnny Blaze character was altered a little by Nic (and Bravo to him for not wanting to do the same ol' drinkin' to remove pain thing), he really pulled it off. He was so lovable and fun in this film and I personally really enjoyed watching him... and this is coming from a guy who's not the biggest fan of Cage. His character was so fun (again, fun is the key) and as different as Blaze was from the comics, it worked. It really worked.

Fonda was amazing as Meph; so sleezy, so sly. Wes, to me, was absolutely perfect. His intense stare was brilliant and his delivery perfect. This boy is gonna be a franchise villain, no doubt about that...

Oh, and speaking of the main demons, a lot of folks are upset that we didn't get to see the full demon forms and while I thought I would be as well if we didn't get it, I really don't think it was necessary for this film. The hint of Meph in the shadows was perfect and sometimes not seeing something is better than seeing it. BlackHeart, well, sure it would have been lovely to see his demon form but, to me, it wasn't needed to further the story... and now it's something we can hope for in the sequel (which I have no doubt we'll get).

So, I think I'll clue this up now. I'm sure there's lots more to talk about and I known I will in the coming days, weeks and months. I'm gonna go see the film a few more times yet and I'm sure there are things I'll pick up on as I do. All in all though, as a general movie goer, I'm very very pleased with the movie. It was (again) really fun and that's what I want in a movie going experience. As a fan of the character, I'm equally impressed. Sure, there were some liberties taken but, do we really expect anything less? Look at the facts folks; it was fun, it was true to the character and it is successful. What more could we ask for?

Bring on GR2!!

I concur, bring it on!

:ghost:

I enjoyed it. I didn't hear too many good things about it before I saw it, but I decided to give it a chance...and I'm glad I did. The film was off to a goodt start, but starting getting annoying with the whole love interest bit. I still don't think Nicholas Cage is right for the role and honestly, I was hoping that at the end he was going to give up the "Rider" powers and for a sequel they'd focus on Danny and get a different actor. The dialogue was well written. Finally when it came time for Johnny to blaze (yea....pun intended) things started picking up. I liked how he was arrested and all that, I liked his Stare and I liked how he got his chain (nice and simple).

And at first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the Carter, the first Ghost Rider, but I liked how he was a homeage to the original GR and I decided to let it slide. Plus the "Let's Ride!" scene with Johnny and Carter was just so ****ing cool! The end fight scene was great, but my overall complaint was that we got to see no demon form Blackheart (but hopefully we'll get a GR2 with Mephisto's true form).

I'd rate the movie a good 7.8/10. :)

I'd also like to mention how much I loved Johnny and Carter riding together.

It was a great image and a great moment. It really got me pumped (almost too much, since I didn't think the Blackheart showdown was as good as it should've been).

But it was one of those great "pre-final showdown" sequences. Every good superhero movie should have one; it gets your blood pumping and can give you goosebumps. (Two that come to mind are Batman's "He's out there, and I've got to go to work" and Begins' "There's nobody left to send in!")

This movie was awesome. I've been wanting to see it for a while, and after seeing it tonight, I want to see it lots of times again. I'm glad they have a sequel planned! :D

My wife and I had been waiting to see this movie and we both thought it was f'n great! 10/10 for us! Loved it!

Hi guys! Thanks for making me feel at home here!
I like what Flamehead said about the successful blending of "goth cowboy" with the Ghost Rider look and feel. I thought that was not only an intriguing and nice touch, but also a good homage to the predecessor of the motorcycle-riding Ghost rider...since the original Ghost Rider rode a horse.

Now I just have one teensy question............and I hate to sound like a dumb@ss, but,................WHERE is everybody getting those cool little flaming-skull smilies?? And how can I get one to use in my posts?

I know I should be pondering much more important issues, but, dangit, I want a flaming skull smilie.

;)

Just click on 'more' in the smilies section, LB.

LoL. Welcome to they hype LB. I hope you stick around and ride with us to the sequel (which I'm very postive we'll get. We better get).

The GR smiley can be found when you go into the advanced posting. You'll see the smilies on the right hand side. If you click more, you'll see the GR smilie... or you can just type : ghost :, but with no spaces.

I finally got to see it last night and I'm definitely happy I did. I give it a solid 8/10 .

I loved the Old Western atmosphere mixed in. For many years I've been thinking that it would make a good combo with Ghost Rider and I'm glad to see I was right. Obviously there were a few things that bugged me in the movie, but nothing major enough to prevent me from enjoying it.

Now, I hated most of what I saw beforehand. I was against a PG-13 Ghost Rider. I was against Nic Cage's casting. I was against's the plot. I was against the humor.

Of course, unlike many I didn't stick around to spew hate. What was the point? Some where obviously enjoying the direction of the project. So be it.

Like all Internet haters, I always see the movie I'm bashing. And of course, I had to like it.

Here it is folks. Straight from a hater. I liked the movie. Wham bam slam.

So many things wrong with it. But I won't let the inner fanboy do the talking. The movie was fun. Great fun. I was satisfied. Of course it wasn't perfect but what movie is really? I'm judging this movie on it's own merits. And it's good.

LOL same here... I didn't expect to like this movie, really.

Let's face it, Ghost rider's a b-grader for a reason. He's not up there with the top characters in marvel comics, he's cool, but not really a fav of mine. Captain America's the best marvel hero after Spidey, Hulk, and Iron Man in my book. Now GR's starting to grow on me more as a cool character... What's even more is I'm amazed the cgi was so seamless in most shots... If this were made twenty years ago, we'd probably see a full flaming skull for 5 minutes of the whole film...amazing...

My only real gripe is how much Blackheart's transformation reminded me of La Magra.

I liked the movie. Was it OSCAR marterial, NO. Are critics guys who flunk out of filmschool and still having a period about it; YES! The only thing I would have added to the movie was when young john left roxie at the tree and rode off. The PERFECT song would be AC/DC Highway to Hell throw in Blackhearts appearance with HellsBells and...ok so I still enjoy ACDC. I have all but 2 issues of the original series, There was nothing in the movie I didnt like and compared to that disasterous CatWoman this movie would be 5 academy awards. Cage did a good job, I mean for you critics, HOW THE hell do you portray being on FIRE? It's not like you can walk into a burn ward and ask them, So dude; while your skin was burning, what kind of motivation was there... -reply TO PUT IT OUT ********!

Remember the shortest distance between 2 points is between the eyes. No repeat offenders, EVER!

Well, the movie is released in Belgium! I've saw it on opening day (yesterday, wednesday 21nd february) and now i gonna tell about it!!!

I waited, like many others here, so long to see it and on the time i make this post, it's almost a day ago that i saw it!!!

What a movie!!! Nice build up from young JB to present day!!! I thought Johnny's dad died a natural dead, but it was Mephistopheles!!!

Cool that we saw a shadow from his demon form when Mephistopheles visited young Johnny for the first time.

After all those years, Mephistopheles needs Johnny. The first transformation takes place, wich was very cool!!! I think that they cut in the transformation! Hopefully it will be on the dvd!!!

What also was cut, was the line "Stop following me" on the roof. Or did i missed that when i grabbed for my M&M's??? :)

Also: "You have to leave now" wasn't in the movie. I really wanted to see that! Hopefully it will be on the DVD aswell.

All the CGI was perfect, amazing, wonderfull, cool,...!!!!! Not only the transformation, the flaming skull, but also the Hell Cycle, Hell Gun, The Hidden, Blackheart, Mephistopheles, the souls that Blackheart inhales/swallows and all others things that where done in CGI. Great job from those people!!! Congratulations!!!!

Why had Mack to die? I loved this character!!! He was so concerned about Johnny when he was gonna to do the 2nd jump with the choppers!!! Couldn't Blackheart just scared him?

I few questions i had where answered! Why has Ghost Rider a chain? What is exactly the "penance stare"

Everyone did a great job. Not only Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Peter Fonda, Wes Bentley, Sam Elliot but also Matt Long (young Johnny Blaze)Raquel Alessi (young Roxanne Simpson) and Brett Cullen (Barton Blaze) and of course Donal Logue (Mack)

Thanks MSJ for making Ghost Rider!!!

Ghost Rider, the first Marvel comic adaption in 2007 is a great movie!!

Can't wait to see Ghost Rider 2 (hopefully in 2009???!!!)

Steve

Okay, this is coming from someone who has no clue whatsoever about the story of Ghost Rider so I suppose this could be taken as a "general public" opinion.

I loved this movie.

Before watching this movie I was concerned that I wasnt going to understand what was happening witht he story but I was pleasantly suprised. The plot was simple, interesting and enjoyable.

Nic Cage was great as Johnny Blaze. When he first transformed into the Ghost Rider I was both amazed and disturbed mainly because it looked really painful and Nic did a great job at this point. The effects were fantastic, seeing that flaming skull laughing to himself and just relishing what he was doing had me smiling a number of times during the film. The "penance stare" I thought was a really cool power, that goth chick he saved in that scene just had me in stitches, she just gets saved by a guy who's skull is on fire and shes just like "ah thanks" as if nothing happened, great moment.

There was just never a dull moment when the Ghost Rider was on screen or Johnny for that matter. My only problem with the movie really was Eva Mendes, I couldn't warm to her character at all. Its not that I really disliked her or anything, but I just found myself coming away from this movie thinking "meh" and "whats attracting this guy to her?". I think if they dived a little deeper into her character and what drives her then i would have found myself liking Roxanne that little bit more.

Overall I give the movie an 8/10. Great story, great character in Johnny Blaze and a great villian for hopefully future sequels in Mephistopheles and man I hope I spelled that right.

:ghost:

I honestly knew nothing about Ghost Rider when I went into the theature. I thought Ghost Rider was going to be extremly dark and depressing but I was only half right. There was alot more humor then I had hoped for but still a good amount of darkness. Overall I would rate it about a 7 outta 10. It was know Spiderman but definitly worth seeing.

I liked GR. I think if this film gets a sequal it would be even better.

MSJ returning? I dono. I mean i love the directors cut off DD..and i liked ghost rider, but i want to see new faces doing superhero movies. And no more sub-par directors (which i dont believe MSJ is, i think he made an extrodinary film with the DD directors cut), like brett ratner and such.

MSJ can direct but I think maybe someone else should write the next one.
