For Tim & Co - Constructive Criticism: Looking Forward!

1) What did you like about this movie?

  • The relationships, each and everyone of them...
  1. Reed and Sue
  2. Sue and Johnny
  3. Johnny and Ben
  4. Alicia and Sue
  5. Alicia and Ben
  • The character development...
  1. Reed becoming a true leader and intellectual...
  2. Sue becoming the true backbone and compassion of this team...
  3. Johnny....so much more than a one-line, smart ass...
  • Doom
  1. Still not Doom of the comics, but a bad ass villain none the less...

2) What did you dislike about this movie?
  • Still not true Doom...
  • Lack of Ben....
  • Too short....There was so much more that could have been developed...and I believe Doom/SS/Ben were sacrificed in the time deficit.

3) What would you like to see in future films?
For the Four:
  • Continue the strong characters that were beautifully built in this movie....NEVER look back to the first movie....LOOK to this one to build from...
  • No Hoy in the editing room...
  • No Frost in the screenplay...
  • Franklin
  • More Ben and Alicia
  • The Inhumans
  • The Frightful Four

4) General comments

  1. Never allow an extra showing to compromise a character in this franchise again, like Ben was compromised.....other than that,
  2. bravo on the other 3 and their character develoment...
  3. Bravo, to the actors and their portrayal of these iconic personalities...

Potentially, the narrative was good, so that did not need much alteration, HOWEVER the execution in terms of writting was horrific. Perhaps trying to cut out the cliche and stereotyped, making a richer use of verbal interactions, rather the shocking pieces of cringeworthy 'cheese' we were given(no offence).

The deviation from the comic book in terms of galactus as a brave descision that worked ok in the end, a good choice I'd say for now. However depowering him so much and changing the board to the source of power didn't sit well, neither did the surfer's ability to take on galactus at the end with out too much justification.

The direction needed A LOT of work here, the camera was used merely to tell the story, not to enhance it, particularly the shot of doom gaining power for the board was terrible, the bird eye view with power music as he opens up in a wide gesture, this was something we've seen time and time again in third rate movies since the 70's.

To improve on these, hire a different writter, someone who focuses on dialogue, rather than moving things on quickly. With direction....it's a case of knowing how to shoot a scene to emphasize things that go with the mood and theme and establish these things, to be honest, if you're not getting it by now, it's going to be rather difficult to improve.

Establish CHARACTER not events, a single well constructed character can hold a screen for hours, wheras undeveloped and poorly written characters going through an event struggle to captivate.

Basically, this film is fine for 7 year old and people with very little filmic knowledge of institutions and cliche's to avoid etc, with a limited viewing experience. But if making a decent film, there are many things to be considered.

^You didn't say one constructive thing...'Potentially' was the closest you came to anything positive or constructive criticism. You hate the film, you hate Story, we get it. The thread creator asked for 4 things...you did one.

I just wish the writers and Tim Story would spend more time trying to make the Fantastic Four seem more like real people. They all act like charicatures of who they are. Mr. Fantastic has to stress that he's the scientist. Sue has to stress that she wants to be the happy housewife and settle down. Ben is just comic relief. Johnny is the cocky jerk. They were all just 2-dimensional in this movie.

I said what I liked, i said what I hated, and how to rectify these things etc.

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM FOR TIM STORY, WRITERS ETC..

Hey guys!

Firstly, I hope that everyone enjoyed the film. It's gotten really crazy around here since it came out, but I am hoping that is for good reasons.

This isn't Fantastic Four 3 specific, but I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread that Tim and the others could check out to get a more concise list of things people liked and disliked about this movie, and what they would like to see in the next one. I know that Tim is going to be busy with The Losers so I thought it would be nice to make it so that he doesn't have to wade through this crazy sea of threads lol

If you can take a few moments of your time to answer the following questions, I would really appreciate it.

1) What did you like about this movie?
2) What did you dislike about this movie?
3) What would you like to see in future films?
4) General comments

Please don't turn this into a hate thread. If you didn't like the movie then say why constructively so that they can improve in future.

If this franchise survives this........moving forward, I want another director. Period. Story's had 2 shots.....both are sub par considering the characters. Time to go.

I never got to see what I really hoped to in either film - a true, knock-down brawl between Ben and another worthy opponent. Either him vs. some giant robot or even Doom (if they had done it right and made it an epic battle). Heck I'd have even liked to see him slug the bear over the treetops! SOMETHING! Maybe if they do a 3rd, we'll get Namor and they can slug it out! Or better yet, Blackbolt of the Inhumans!

Or better still, they could never rape (make another movie about) the FF again!

I'm down with that.

Or better still, they could never rape (make another movie about) the FF again!
I'm down with that.

Y'know a whole lot of people are not "down" with the word rape being used to describe (of all things) a sub-par comicbook movie.
How about "screw up," "ruin" or hey, how about "bastardize?"
I seriously doubt many bastards would be offended.

Alright, well....keep in mind I don't know that much about the fantastic four, but I wanted to share my opinion on this anyway :yay:
1) What I liked about this movie?
-Character interaction and developement, as fully explained in other peoples posts
-The Silver Surfer! He was awesome. I'm eagerly anticipating the spin-off.
-Doom was a lot cooler in this film than the first one
-The special effects were pretty sweet, overall
-I liked the fantasticar
-The Thing still looks awesome
-Stan's cameo!!:woot:
2) What I disliked about this movie?
-It felt like it was aimed at little kids and pre-teens, atleast, to me....
-Doom was still a far cry from being as cool as he was in the comics
-Jessica Alba looked icky. Yes, icky. Don't get me wrong, she's really hot, but her hair and eyes looked creepy at some points in the film
-The CGI with Mr. Fantastic.....I dunno, everytime he stretched it looked odd to me
-The dancing scene. 'Nuff said.
-Galactus. is. a. cloud. Still 'Nuff said.
3) What would I like to see in future films?
-No dancing scenes
-Complete and utter loyalty to the comics
-Namor Namor Namor Namor Namor Namor Namor Namor
-A huge flat out Brawl between Ben and the main villainamor
-Doom being used to his full potential. And make his voice raspy or deep when he's wearing the mask
-More Latveria
-Namor
4) General Comments:
SOURCE. MATERIAL.
Movie-makerse that are adapting a comic book to the big screen need to put the fans and source material over everything else, I think. A comic book movie (nor any movie, at that) can never ever be perfect, but the closest a film can get is by following the source material as closely as possible
Remember that Tim....Remeber that!

Not to be an ass, but people really need to stop asking for the real
Doom. He was promised to us for this film and they still didn't deliver. Low and behold it would later be revealed (unsurprisingly) that they don't want the Doom from the comics.

I'm sorry, but this franchise doesn't deserve a third film. This team doesn't deserve a third try. It's obvious that the intentions for this franchise aren't very high, so why play head games with the fans with threads like this?

Is there anyone on these boards that really believe that a third FF film will make the huge jump in overall quality everyone is hoping for?

Just leave it alone......

That is your opionion and thats fine, but if people want to discuss these aspects, that is what this board is for.....many believe that the quality from the 1st to 2nd film was very big in many areas.......and they can certainly hope that if their is a 3rd, that other areas will be improved upon as much or more.....if you don't think a 3rd film is warranted thats fine, others can feel differently from you.....and thats OOOKKK....

FF2 was a vast improvement. Some simple critiques would be get Alba looking less monotone - and her eyes are way too fake too. Get the Thing clobberin' - he is still being sooo underused. Unfortunately the actor playing Doom was a poor choice - I know you can't change the actor now but use him less.

If you kept Doom behind the mask, which he should be from this point on.....then why not?

1) What did you like about this movie?
a. A greater sense of scope.
b. The Silver Surfer's characterization.
c. The scenes with Ben and Johnny.
d. Subtle nudges to the comics (holographic receptionist, the Fantasticar).
e. General improvements in characterization.
f. Ottman was given more freedom in scoring the film.
2) What did you dislike about this movie?
a. The main title sequence was not a full opening credits sequence.
b. It was only 89 minutes.
c. A rushed climax.
d. Dr. Doom was still not menacing enough.
3) What would you like to see in future films?
a. A main title sequence like the extended cut of Fantastic Four. In other words, I would like to see a full opening credits sequence. I believe it would grab the audiences' attention quite well, especially with Ottman's stirring music.
b. A running time of at least 120 minutes.
c. A more sinister Dr. Doom, perhaps an amplified voice under the armor?
4) General comments
Like Marko said, stick closer to the source material.

1) What did you like about this movie?
*The Four working together as a team.
*Reed acting like a leader while maintaining his geeky appeal.
*Michael Chiklis as Thing, he can do no wrong.
*Human Torch (Just need to tone down the 'MTVness' like vibe around him.)
*Silver Surfer looked and acted how I imagined.
*Fantastic Car was cool!

2) What did you dislike about this movie?
*Cosmic Cloud Galactus what a jip!

*Anything with Invisible woman (I.E. Jessica Alba) she's nice to look at, but easily the weakest actor in the cast.

*Mr.Fantastic FX looked pretty bad.

*Everything to do with this movie version of Dr.Doom, this is no Doom I recognize.

*The action scenes are underwhelming, Pixars 'Incredibles' did a better job doing the FF better than the real thing sad.

*NewYork should not look like CANANDA! it should look like NEWYORK.

*Thing was too jokey, and not enough Clobberin' give the guy a worthy bruiser badguy to battle.

*Pretty generic movie score, I'd go so far as to say the musical score is utterly forgetable and over abundance MTVish flavor of the month Bands severly dates the movie.

3) What would you like to see in future films?
*Stick to the source material.

*Stick to the source material.

*Annihilus and the Negative Zone..stick to the source material!!

*A Galactus that's not a cloud.

4) General comments

Tim Story if you ever read this, don't let the suits at FOX bully you. Man up and make a Fantastic Four movie thats worthy of Jack Kirby's imagination.

Oh yeah, No freaking Galactus as a CLOUD!
