Sequels Fox's Schedule for future X-Men movies - Discussion Thread

I respectfully disagree. IMO, Singer is the heart of this franchise. I want there to be a Singer-helmed X4 so he can have his final say on the series, then they can reboot or do more prequels or whatever craziness Fox has in mind.

totally agreed.

If Bryan do X4, Fox can do whatever they want next.

Ill be happy for the rest of the decade :woot:

I am starting to get a sense that Inless they change the filming locations for the Wolverine It could be axed.Deadpool Is looking more and more likely to be made.
The next X film will likely be out now in 2013 and It appears that will be Deadpool.
It's certainly Is possible both the Wolverine and X-Men Origins:Deadpool could be out In
2013 but there Is a problem with X4.If Fox wants to get X4 out for 2014 and Bryan Singer starts preparring It after jack The Giant comes out In June of 2012 Hugh jackman may not want to jump Immedetly from the WOlverine to X4/X5.And Bryan Singer again made comments that the first class sequel will likely be set In the 1970's.So Inless they
hire a director soon for The Wolverine and filming starts In the fall for 2012 release(Remember matthew vaughn wasn't signed for First Class till May of 2010 so this Isn't
a crazy thing to imagne happening) I would not be shocked If Fox Renegorates Hugh jackman's The Wolverine deal for X4/X5

hopefully they forget about The Wolverine and gives green light to X4 and X5 shooted back to back.

So no more Wolverine movies for the rest of our lives :woot:

just because he made the first installment, doesn't make him the heart of franchise. He made the first 2 movies, but he did it quite poorly. a lot of people may praise him, but the fact is that he is not a director capable of making good superhero movies.

the character development is very poor. he made cyclops, who is supposed to be a strong leader into a wimp. we know nothing about cyclops or his past. he doesn't come out as a leader and at the end of the movie after wolverine fought mystique and came back, cyclops asks him to prove that it' s him, wolverine says "you're a dick" to wich he just smiles. that's kind of degrading.
same goes for x-2. cyclops as leader non visible. the fact that he also listens to n-sync is again degrading and it makes it very hard to believe that he is a strong leader.

Then Storm. Storm is supposed to be like a true African queen. Halle Berry represents nothing of that. She was toatally miscast. Halle Berry has a more cute look, instead Storm, who should have looked stronger in her face and body. and also, this character has no development whatsoever.

Bryan Singer says how X men represents the hatred, racism, being difficult to be "not normal" and he potrayed that so poorly. He could have easily used some Morlocks get beaten on the street, kicked out of bus or something. What Singer gives us is a shot of people screaming " No more Mutants". we see this everyday and it doesn't really represent the racism that is so obvious in the comics. in both x-1 and 2 i never got the feeling that mutants have a really hard time. they are just not liked, but we don't see their houses being burnt down or something. the whole racism theme is non visible in the movies.

in X2 there's that scene with Bobby and the parents. So again that scene is supposd to represent that it's still hard to be " different" gay or whatever. But using a scene like that to tell that is totally misplaced. I just can't take it seriously. Bobby's brother getting so freaked out and calling the cops after seeing Bobby freeze the tea?? Common! I just can't take that seriously. That scene just doesn't bring that massage over.

another weak thing with singer is pacing and use of camera. the camera is very static. it may work for a movie like usual suspects, but x-men is still an action movie and he should have used the camera much better.
I also think that X2 is too slow. Especialy the build up to the fight between Wolverine and Deathstrike. The scenes are so slow. Lack of pace, totally kills the movie at some points.

And again, what singer did to Deathstrike. Why use Deathstrike?? That character has so much deph and storyline and he made it so damn flat. He could of just make up a mutant, but no, he thinks let's make fans happy, we'll put another character that has connection to Wolverine. The movie does'n show that at all, but the fans will like it. Well I don't! this again shows that singer doesn't really know how to use or develop characters. she barely had a line in the movie.
same goes for sabretooth in x-1. totally misused character. no development. he seemed like a ****** who just brainlesly follows magneto. no mention of history between him and wolverine.

Singer's saying how X men is about the characters, but I don't feel it at all. Cyclops is a flat character. Storm has no depth at all. Hatret between Sabertooth and Wolverine, nowhere to be seen. Just some hints. Well I don't want hints, I want good characters with deph.

and also the whole tone of the movie. toning down characters and setting the story in too realistic world. this creates a lot of restrictions for future movies and character, where people say that this character doesn't fit in because it is unbelievable.

action wise, he also delivered very little. only nightcrawler sequence was good, the rest was nothing special. and we never saw x-men being, acting and fighting like a team.

If I'm supposed to look at X men as an action movie, it lacks the action, If it's supposed to be realistic with polliical message, it tottaly lacks the suffering and deph in characters. singer just lacks vision to deliver. he wants to put all these different elements and at the end non of them really come forward.

I think that Vaughn will do much better job when it comes to character development. and vaugn also gives the movie a better and more comic book look. Maybe then people will see how much Singer faild.

Many disagree with you. Many other directors make changes yet only Bryan singer Is
critized. And let's not forget he revived the genre with X-Men.

If First Class Is the sucess It appears to be part of that has to go to Singer. He come up with story. He got matthew vaughn to direct. He almost turned it down untill Singer
convinced him to do It.And he was a very hands on producer during filming.

demitri, you have commented many interesting points.... and I agree, definetly.

They have been selling this franchise with the concept of racism and all of that, but the movies have lacked special attention to that theme.

Im glad Bryan has came back, but Im honest too, his movies could have been better, definetly.

on the positive side, I think the quality is coming back to the franchise and I have the feeling the next movies will be much better than X3 and Wolverine, and maybe better than X2 and X1 too.

Im really postive this time.

I want June to come soon, so we will can talk about First Class and its quality (or not)

but Im sure many of us will love it, and will be here posting great reviews...

cant wait!

I have to give Fox credit. The studio did a good job of duping fans into believing the "realistic" world first introduced in the X-Men movies is somehow incredibly divergent from the one first introduced in the comics, as though Westchester, New York is supposed to be Asgard.

I agree with your post demitri. Im not a fan of X1 and find the film extremely underwhelming. I do think X2 is decent though and I like the Nightcrwaler/ Deathstrike fight scene alot but your right they messed her up. I have yet to see an X film that I really enjoyed or thought was a great representation of the comics. I also agree that Vaughn will give us a solid film more fitting to the comics, even though the first crew from the comics isnt involved.

@demitri

It's fine if you don't like Singer's vision. You have some very valid points. I personally love his X-Men. The one thing I will agree on is the treatment of Cyclops -- he deserves better.

As I said I agree with many of his comments...

but at the same time, I have to say that my fave movie is X1.

The tone of the movie was excelent, in my opinion, so that alone makes it better than X3.

X2 was a good x-men movie, but I think it lost the intimate, dark and dramatic tone of the first one.

Why do you think X1 is darker then X2? To me its vice versa.

darker not because of the story or plot, but because the tone of the movie, and with tone I mean real tone of the image.

For me, X1 looks like a serious/adult movie, a mix of drama and suspense, not like a summer/superhero movie.

thats why it is my fave movie from the whole franchise to date.

and thats the tone Id like to see in the superhero movies, something Nolan did perfectly. and thats why the new Batman franchise is so succesfull, in my opinion.

Bryan did a great job with the style/tone of X1. Would love to see a more adult x-men movie in the future.

I thought the opposite, especially the ending of X1. That whole scene on the Statue of Liberty felt extremely superhero cliche and kinda goofy at times. I thought X2 was more mature in terms of look, tone and story. But I dont really like X1 so I might be biased. To each their own.

the team part of the ending wasnt as good as it could have been, definetly.

I think one of the main reasons are it was done in year 2000 and the not so good budget.

but the tone of the music, dialogue scenes during the movie, character interaction were really good.

All the things X3 lacked.

X2 Is the better film.People should also remember X-Men had a very low budget.Fox gave the fantastic Four more money than they gave the first X-Men.Just Imagne If Bryan Singer had been given the 95 Million Tim Story was given as budget for fantastic Four.We could have gotten the Danger Room,Beast, and Blob.

Having just this week rewatched X-Men and X2 It continues to show how good they are.
If First Class can match them In Quality the franchise will be back on good ground.

the whole first part of X1 was amazing.

the Magneto flashback (perfect), the Rogue intro (intense), the first meeting of Rogue and Logan (really good).....

I think just these scenes alone make X1 more special, intimate, dramatic and beautiful at the same time.

I love that mix.

There were originally going to have flashbacks for Cyclops and Storm manifacting their powers after the magneto Flashback but before the Rogue Intro.Eather because of budget Issues or pacing reasons It was deceded not to film them.

Bryan Singer has always viewed the X-Men films as SciFi/Fantasy films with action.
This approach was Ignored by Brett Ratner and Gavin Hood(he has to take some of the
blame for Wolverine) If you have seen Stardust or Kick Ass you can see matthew Vaughn Is good choice to handle First Class with bryan.

Like I keep saying I place the first 2 X films as best marvel films and among my top best comic book films ever.

People need to remember back In 1999 Hollywood had much different attitude with regards to comic book films than now.it was amazing X-Men actully got made. And
getting good actors like Ian Mckellan,Bruce davidson,Anna Paquin, and fan choice
Patrick Stewart. It revived the genre and Influenced other comic book films.

I have to fast forward through most of X1. Even as a kid I was just kind of disappointed. The X Men seem bored all the time and I never felt any real threat. Rouge whines, Storm was lame and has one of the worst lines in movie history, Cyclops does nothing and the action was mediocre. I did like Jean Grey, Prof X, Magneto and the early Wolverine scenes but yeah, never got the praise for X1. I know alot of people like it and its well reviewed, I just find it boring and lacking any real tension. For comic films out at that time I thought Burtons Batmans, Blade and The Crow were far superior visually.

Spider-Man 2 kills X1 as a whole. If were talking marvel films.

Spiderman 1, 2 and 3 were summer movies for the whole family. Spiderman 2 was the best, definetly.

but X1 had the best character interaction. The momments between Rogue and Wolverine were really good, and beautiful sometimes, some moments between Jean and Wolverine were good too, Magneto and Xavier, Logan saving Rogue at the Liberty Island was a beautiful momment in my opinion, I really felt that moment, the music had a big part.

the action was poor, we all agree with that, but the tone of the movie was better than many superhero movies in the latest years.

It IS also funny how Sam Rami gets a pass for the changes he made to Spider-man.
Green Goblin and Dr OCtopus being split Personalities.Peter Parker with only eyes for
Mary Jane.Sandman Into Ben parker's Killer.Changing burgler to carjacker.Yeah Spider-man 2 Is the best of the Rami Trilogy but none of Rami trilogy I would place as the best
Comic Book.I am cautionsly hoping The Amzing Spider-Man will be better.I would put
The Burton batman films and both Iron man film before Spider-man.

Bryan Singer himself has recently admitted some of the work In X-Men was not great and he really didn't do the best job till X2.But If Big splashy action sequenzes were all It took to make a good film then the Last Stand and Wolverine would be the better received films. They weren't.

Why all the hate for Rogue? Sincerelly, if you just knew you made you boyfriend/girlfrieng go into a coma, everybody considered you a freak and a menace, and the only people that were like you didn't like you how would you feel? Of course she whines, because she's a person (mutant if you will).

some fans dont understand that they decided to include Rogue as a teenager.

a normal girl with a hard power.

But all the mutants grown, and the actresses too, so Anna Paquin would look more mature in X4 than in X1, definetly.

So its just a matter of time.

I think there are other ways to show your depressed and scared on film besides whining all the time. I like Anna Paquin and think shes a good actress but I didn't like how they wrote the character. Thought it would have made more sense if it was Jubilee. Rogue didn't really have that much to do for three films.

I understand part of fans concern.

But from all the members of the x-men of the trilogy, Rogue had her own arc and developtment.

Appart from Wolverine, Storm and Jean, Rogue had a decent screentime. She wasnt the star of the trilogy, definetly, but she had a better role than Kitty, Angel, Collosus, Bobby and Kurt.

so the Rogue fans cant be as mad as the others fans. :)

I think if Bryan directs X4, Rogue would have a bigger and better role, after Anna's success with True Blood.

Angel didn't develop much of the plot in X3, he was only there to look pretty and save hid dad, nothing more.
