"This is bad, borderline garbage, but disturbing, too, in that it's just the kind of fake-clever awfulness that might be cinema's future."
"Deadpool, intended as a spiky antidote to superhero oversaturation, ends up impaling only itself."

Who the **** wrote that?
First quote is Mick LaSalle from San Francisco Chronicle and the second Stephanie Zacharek from TIME Magazine.

This comment on the Chronicle about sums it up:
Oh for F Sake. This is like letting a homeless man rate the French Laundry. If you know nothing of the comic book world (Deadpool specifically) you are not qualified to review a specific movie made for a specific character. (...) If you go to a movie tailor made for a niche group of nerds/geeks and expect it to win an Oscar...

And we're certified fresh!

Anyone else saw Chris Stuckman's review? He gave it an 'A+'.
A couple of quotes.
"No boring moment"
"It made me want to read Deadpool comics"
Based on the feedback so far, I'm willing to bet it will be.
It's a possibility, I won't rush into that bet.

I guess it's just more proof that critics don't hate everything. And I will say this, most of the most well received and beloved movies of this ilk are generally well reviewed by MOST (not all) critics. Just saying.

Audience review so far is most welcoming to the movie.

Certainly the best received movie starring RR in the eyes of audience.

Pleasantly surprised to see it get more positive than negative. I didn't care either way, i'm gonna to love the **** out of this movie. But i just thought due to the polarizing nature of the character it'd be more around the 50% mark on Rotten Tomatoes.

It's now 83% :D.

Same here, I though some of the references and jokes and general crazyness would be too obscure/alienating for some but I think the fact it has a solid story and characters have obviously helped it for those not familiar with the character and his antics. I really didnt think many would like it. I guess you can never really tell.

I knew it would have an audience. I knew it'd appeal to people who were kind of sick of standard superhero movies. But it seems it's appealing to a whole lot of people.

The thing is, a good movie is a good movie, regardless of story or genre. I think the fact that it was well made and well acted supersedes the general appeal of the character.

If the movie's good, it's good.

LOL. High five!

That is true... but plenty of good movies have failed to find a big audience. It seems this film is appealing to superhero fans, people who are sick of superheroes, people who like crude comedies, action junkies, rom/com fans...

It's just surprising how many demographics have bought into Deadpool. The best marketing campaign ever conceived obviously helped.

Yes but that's more of a BO comment than an opinion based one.

Everything else you nailed though! Well said!

Dredd being the obvious one that springs to mind. But then the difference in marketing between this film and that one is night and day, but shows what effect it has.

Does Rotten Tomatoes really say 84% with 146 reviews in or am I just dreaming again?
