Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine Rotten Tomatoes watch thread

Whatever happens after SW, it's safe to assume DP/Ryan Reynolds will be a part of it. That is certainly a bonus. I also think this is the start of more R rated fare, which ironically is something Marvel always had in their pocket over DC in the comics, the edgy/violent/anti-hero, horror elements. So it may be something that could be new for audiences in the future, to spice things up. I'm not saying I want mostly that, NO, these are still stories that are built on inspiration at the end of the day, but anti-heroes like Deadpool should play a part for older audiences. Still, this is a studio that has gone from hiring RDJ when it was seen as one of the riskiest things they could do in '07, to now casting him because its the easiest (safest) thing they could do. The underdog spirit is completely gone, and been replaced by ego, greed and the desperate desire to hold on to the status quo for as long as possible. That's reflected in recent projects. Nothing new in Hollywood. Everything comes to an end at some point. House of Ideas, meet House of Cards.
Bringing back RDJ, the Russos and perhaps also Jackman signals that the studio (more likely the top bosses and shareholders) want to get the MCU back on track, so they are looking to what worked well before. It's a common practice in business to base upcoming activities on previous successes, as no one can predict the future.

Having RDJ as Dr Doom does feel very odd, admittedly.

In a post-The Boys, Swamp Thing (the series), The Suicide Squad, Watchmen (both the film and series), and even as far back as the Blade films, among countless other examples, R-rated fares isn't exactly new for audiences. Even general audiences who gobble up these comic book films by the dozen are probably used to the occasional edgy or violent movies by this point. Even Marvel has sort of dipped into that fare already with the Netflix shows and those characters being harder, edgier, and telling much darker stories than anything you ever saw in the film side of the MCU. It would only spice things up if you only thought comic book adaptations were exclusive to the MCU. But by the time, if ever, Marvel and Disney dip into R-rated fare, audiences will have already seen that.

That's my point. In the MCU. Comic book films aren't exclusive to the MCU either, yet until recently they generally performed much better. After 30 plus films, we finally get an R rating, which we likely still wouldn't have recieved had DP not come over. That goes to my comic example.

Case in point, JJ Abrams returning to Star Wars when he was supposed to be done with the franchise after Force Awakens. They wanted Abrams to recreate the magic he achieved with Force Awakens when Star Wars' popularity was at its absolute highest again.

When Doomsday/Secret Wars get the same critical reception as X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3 and The Rise of Skywalker....

Hopefully with Disney decreasing the workload of Marvel Studios, the final product of those 2 movies won't be as bad as the other big movies I've mentioned. Though after 4 critically acclaimed Marvel films, I feel like it would be a challenge for the Russo Brothers to live up to the hype for their 5th and 6th Marvel film. Right now I'm just hoping Doomsday/Secret Wars are at least going to be better than Age of Ultron.

Personally speaking, I have zero use for user ratings and I just ignore them. That isn't why I go to Rotten Tomatoes. I wish that site would just focus on critics reviews/ratings.

Like if Oppenheimer and Barbie had twins it would be Deadpool & Wolverine........kind of.

It's like if Ken and J. Robert Oppenheimer had a crossover movie where they have to team up to stop Albert Einstein's evil twin.
