Deadpool & Wolverine Deadpool & Wolverine Rotten Tomatoes watch thread

Also fun to note that RT's average rating for this film is actually marginally higher than the first two Deadpool movies right now (7.2/10 against 7.1/10 from the first two). This is just to point out that this is reviewing pretty much exactly on par with the other DP films.

My feeling is if you grew up a fan of the Marvel Universe, you're gonna love this film. But if you absolutely loved Logan and don't much care for MCU or the Marvel Universe, you're gonna hate this.

Frankly, this movie kind of brings about my general feelings of what I dislike about Logan, and I'm okay with that now. It helped me reconcile my feelings about the movie.

I take that as a positive for a late sequel where the originality and novelty of Deadpool is long past.

This is a hard film to rate, there is so much to fugging love about this movie and some will go multiple times as there is just sooo much to see and love, there some scenes worth the price of the ticket alone and yet at the same time there will be plenty who dislike it as the plot and story are not the strongest and some jokes dont quite land. Its also feels very different to the first DP movie with much more world ending stakes.

I still wish Matthew Macfadyen got to play a different MCU character.

This is pleasing but also surprising to see, I managed to get to see this a little early before reviews and RT really hit, I thought this film would be a lot more divisive given some of its drawbacks and reviews would be move mixed but it seems a lot of the high notes, surprises and just sheer amount of fun you can have with it at times has carried it over the line and round out a nice triple for DP movies.

Once again people can't help it but to pick a film's Rotten Tomatoes score to death.

This is a fun, entertaining film. I also do agree with Dan Murrell that this isn't going to be a cure all for the MCU and fix all of the MCU's recent problems. What it will do is give Marvel and Disney a big hit when they really need one and get some momentum back.

Average rating of 68%. It does seem concerning to me that this is the worst reviewed Deadpool movie. If I haven't seen the movie yet, I would think its the worst Deadpool movie.

So far it doesnt seem to be doing too much damage to the box office, WOM cant be too bad.

The average score is very similar to DP1 and DP2 so its hardly a large fall off from its reviews anyway, the trilogy is all of a similar standard so if you liked 1 and 2 your probably going to see D&W anyway.

Next weekends BO numbers will probably be the acid test.

My concern is critics don't seem to like the Mcu films like they used to. When movies like Guardians 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp are in the mid 80s despite being "mid". Whats going to be the rating for upcoming mcu films like Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, First Steps, Doomsday and Secret Wars. And I know part of the issue, is the quality control at Marvel Studios, but after so many critically acclaimed films, its going to be a challenge for Marvel Studios to be scoring somewhere in 85% to 93%.

This is probably (more or less) the right order, in my view, of the Deadpool and/or Wolverine movies so far, in terms of film-making quality. But Deadpool & Wolverine has lots of repeat viewing potential due to the cameos and sheer fanboy-aimed content of it (I'll be going for a second time this week), more repeat viewing potential than the other Deadpool movies, I'd argue.

I remember the reviews for Antman 2 was bassically ......" palate cleanser- 10/10 " thats how easy the critics were on MCU fims in the past.

Hasnt the general consensus been though that since Endgame both critics and fans have had a lot more issue with the MCU films and they have been a bit more up and down since then in terms of overall quality so review scores will just reflect that. I dont think the majority of critics or fans for that matter, those that are more level headed at least anyway, will view these new films on anything else but on what they see in front of them, those films you list will be fine with critics and fans if they make a "good" film, which will always differ on what that means from person to person anyway.

Logan lacks replay value for me. While Deadpool & Wolverine the movie has tons.

Whatever happens after SW, it's safe to assume DP/Ryan Reynolds will be a part of it. That is certainly a bonus. I also think this is the start of more R rated fare, which ironically is something Marvel always had in their pocket over DC in the comics, the edgy/violent/anti-hero, horror elements. So it may be something that could be new for audiences in the future, to spice things up. I'm not saying I want mostly that, NO, these are still stories that are built on inspiration at the end of the day, but anti-heroes like Deadpool should play a part for older audiences. Still, this is a studio that has gone from hiring RDJ when it was seen as one of the riskiest things they could do in '07, to now casting him because its the easiest (safest) thing they could do. The underdog spirit is completely gone, and been replaced by ego, greed and the desperate desire to hold on to the status quo for as long as possible. That's reflected in recent projects. Nothing new in Hollywood. Everything comes to an end at some point. House of Ideas, meet House of Cards.

Yes, there is less replay value in Logan for sure. Fox became obsessed with killing people off (or curing them) rather than thinking in the long term. I'm so keen to see what the MCU will do with the X-Men.
