I've narrowed my choice down to:

The Comedian, who lived because time travelers like Hiro Nakamura changed the future;

Or Silk Spectre II, who has been living with her mother since Jon left in 1999.

Surprisingly, I'm still leaning towards the latter just 'cause I don't know if I have it in me to do the Comedian right.

I'd say Silk Spectre II, only because I'm going to have trouble otherwise getting her and Dan together. :csad:

despite the horror of Tracy's possible death, I find this arc exhilarating. Who knew horror could be so much fun?

I'd say Silke Specter. I'd be interested to see how you would come up for her reason to come out of retirement.

Also, glad to see you're gonna keep playing as Indy MM. I was interested to see where you were gonna go with the Indy/Veidt storyline.

question, what is the cuttoff for Hellboy? what's already happened.

MB I still play Spawn and Ben "Ben 10" Tennyson:up:

Awesome Rorschach post, Byrd.

I don't know how much you and MB have planned, but if you're interested I have a team up for the two of you in mind much later in the season.

To Hell with it, I say!

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Eddie Brock

Character you'd like to portray: Jon Osterman/Dr. Manhattan

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Dr. Manhattan's abilities are, essentially, limitless. Due to his hyperconsciousness and awareness of the fourth dimension, Dr. Manhattan is able to see time for what it really is: simultaneous. The past, the present, and the future are all happening at once. Thus, he knows what is going to happen, but he is powerless to stop it. He has almost unlimited power over matter, doing pretty much anything he pleases. However, tachyons have proven to cloud his abilities.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Watchmen; DC Comics.

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it): Jon Osterman was born in 1953. His father was a watchmaker, but Mr. Osterman wanted more for his son. In the wake of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs just 8 years prior, Mr. Osterman decided to push his son into the field of atomic physics - a profession with a future. Jon graduated from Princeton University in 1982 with a Ph.D. in atomic physics, and he began research at the Gila Flats base the following year.

While at Gila Flats, Jon met and began a relationship with Janey Slater, a colleague. On an ordinary trip to the boardwalk, Janey dropped her watch, and it was stepped on. Jon nicely offered to fix it for her. That same summer, Jon accidentally left Janey's watch in Gila Flats' crown jewel: the intrinsic field separator. It was an experiment designed to explore whether there was an unknown force holding atoms together.

Jon went back to the intrinsic field separator to retrieve the watch. While inside, the chamber door closed behind him. Professor Milton Glass, Jon's superior, explained that the door could not be opened since the experiment had started. It was a safety feature. Trapped inside, Jon's intrinsic field was removed, and his atoms were scattered. Over time, Jon began piecing himself back together. It happened by body systems, at first. Eventually, Jon emerged in his new form.

The United States government quickly began flaunting their newfound power. They gave Jon the codename Dr. Manhattan to conjure up fear in America's enemies. Dr. Manhattan became the ultimate superpower. Along with his fellow government agent, the Comedian, Dr. Manhattan ended the Gulf War in a matter of months.

During this time, the relationship between Jon and Janey was strained. She found it hard to relate to Jon, and he found himself grappling with the loss of his humanity. His indifference to everything drove Janey crazy. The final straw came when Jon started a relationship with Laurie Juspezyk, the Silk Spectre II. Some time after Janey left him, Jon and Laurie began living at the Rockefeller Military Institute. Laurie, too, learned of the difficulty of being involved with Jon. Eventually, the two had a blowout, and she left.

Not long after his relationship with Laurie ended, Dr. Manhattan simply left. He never told anyone where he was going, and no one heard from him ever again. A decade later, Dr. Manhattan has returned to Earth.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: A tough call, and I guess I have to go with Hero. In reality, though, Dr. Manhattan is indifferent to everything.

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Dr. Manhattan is an interesting character, to say the least. Often, it appears that he does not care. This isn't true, though. He just recognizes that he is powerless to stop "the future." His perspective is unlike anything else and should make for an interesting spin on this RPG. I plan to explore the philosophical issues at the core of Dr. Manhattan - rather than the typical narratives that I'm so used to.

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?: Like the other Watchmen characters, Dr. Manhattan's history has been moved up (24 years - 1985 to 2009) to accommodate this RPG's present-day narrative. Therefore, the dates are different. Also, in keeping with Syn's continuity, Dr. Manhattan left Earth in 1999. Furthermore, due to the presence of time-travelers like Hiro Nakamura, Dr. Manhattan's vision of the future is ever-changing as people mess with the time stream.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I like to think that I'm improving with every day, and I have confidence that I can at least bring a Dr. Manhattan to this RPG that people can tolerate. More importantly, though, I'll be having fun with it, and that should be evident.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: I-I'm sorry. It's these tachyons. They're muddling things up. I can't say for sure.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

It's 2009. I'm standing in New York.

It's 1965. My father is arguing with me.

"These are no times for a repairer of watchers!" he insists. He snatches up the pieces of the watch I was working on. "Shall my son follow me into an obsolete trade?"

"Father!" I shout in protest. My words fall on deaf ears. "Give me that back!"

He walks determinedly to the fire escape. I'm quick on his heels, but I cannot catch him. In one swift motion, he tosses the cogs into the air. I reach for them, but I'm too late. I always have been too late. Always will be too late.

It's 1983. The door to the chamber is closing.

It's 1990. Janey is packing her things.

It's 1972. My first day at Princeton.

It's 1999. Laurie is leaving.

"Oh, God, Jon, how could you?" she asks, pain running through her voice. She turns away from me. She cannot stand to face me anymore. "I'm leaving. I'm getting dressed and I'm leaving."

I say what I think I should say. "Laurie, can't we talk?" I ask. "If you think there's a problem with my attitude, I'm prepared to discuss it." My words are hollow. I don't know what I'm saying. To be honest, I don't know why she's so upset. "Laurie?"

I reach out and reform the beaker that Laurie threw in her anger. Good as new.

It's 1965. The cogs are falling.

It's 2001. The South Tower is collapsing. I'm no longer on Earth.

It's 1991. I'm standing at Gila Flats, holding a picture.

Ten seconds from now. I hold the picture in my hand again.

It's 1983. I'm standing at Gila Flats.

"So you're this new guy from Princeton we heard about, huh?" Wally Weaver asks rhetorically. After a moment, he asks curiously, "Say, wasn't Einstein at Princeton?"

I joke, "Not while I was." We share a laugh. Deep down, I wish I had heard him lecture. Even just once.

Five seconds from now. I wonder who the smiling faces in the picture are.

It's 1983. I see the terror in Dr. Glass's face.

Three seconds.

It's 1965. The cogs are falling. I reach out in vain.

One second.

I gaze at the picture in my hand. Upon seeing the smiling faces of myself and Janey, I wonder who these people must be. Surely, it could not have been us. Surely, there was never a time when we could have been this happy.

It's 1990. Janey is trying to close her suitcase. She's crying.

Ten seconds from now. I'm gone.

My fingers relax, and the picture slips from my hand. It falls slowly to the ground.

It's 1965. The cogs are falling.

Three seconds from now. I'm gone.

I close my eyes. The picture continues to fall. The cogs continue to fall. The chamber door closes - as does Janey's suitcase. I open my eyes again.

"It is time."

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype boards?:
