"From The Pages Of..." Comics Universe RPG: Season I Signup/OOC Thread

So, here's my bid for a hardcore villain.

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: RGDurant

Character you'd like to portray: Robert G. Durant

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Durant has cheated death at the hand's of Darkman numerous times, so much that his entire body has been destroyed with the exception of his brain after their last encounter. Though his vast private, military, and government connections, Durant's brain has been installed into a android body with a titanium alloy skeleton covered with living tissue. With this artificial body, he possesses superhuman strength, durability, stamina, and longevity.

Physical aspects aside, Durant is a criminal mastermind of genius level intellect. His personal syndicate interests include drug trafficking, human trafficking, racketeering, black market weapons, money laundering, and financing for various national and international criminal and terrorist enterprises. Durant maintains a massive network of underworld and mainstream connections, ranging from police officials, scientist's, business tycoons, and lawyers to federal agents, politicians, militants and crime lords throughout the world, keeping loyal through regular bribery, blackmail, and intimidation. He also employs multiple hideouts, safe houses and hidden bunkers to remain away from prying eyes. His personal crew of enforcers can easily be labeled as “violence crazed losers” for their brutality and weak wills. He prefers them so he can control them easier and order them to use their abilities for his own benefit.

His personality consists of sadistic, sociopathic, and cynical almost emotionless behavior. He greatly enjoys killing and torturing people, in which he treats with a cynical business like attitude, he seems to lack the ability to feel emotion other than anger or greed. He is extremely paranoid and ill tempered that he’ll kill his own men on mere suggestion if they make the slightest blunder. The motives to his actions are mainly greed, he is ambitious to the point where his personal sadistic ways are used in obtaining his goals.

Durant’s signature mark is to severe fingers of his victims with his golden cigar cutter, in which he collects and keeps in a box as trophies.

As far as weapons, he has a preference for handguns, but mainly carries either a customized Taurus PT92 or a Colt Python. He doesn't use much large weaponry, but when he does, he favors Milkor Grenade Launchers, M-60 Light Machine Guns and the Vigilante Particle Assault Rifle.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Darkman as briefly published by Marvel Comics and Dynamite Comics, as well as the Universal movies and novels.

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it): Robert G. Durant’s life before his career in crime is a mystery but he is one of the most nefarious and brutal criminals to exist.

For a long time during his career, he made himself a list of enemies but due to his sadistic way of killing and the power he has with his connections to government officials, no one dare to cross him. And then Durant met Peyton Westlake, while performing a favor to Louis Strack to retrieve an incriminating document; Durant had Westlake beaten and burned beyond recognition, thusly creating Darkman.

Durant’s gang began to drop like flies, and his money being stolen, he eventually discovered Westlake survived their encounter and he orchestrated an attack on Darkman's lab. The remainder of his current crew at the time were killed off and Durant ended up dragging Darkman about the city from his helicopter while firing grenades at him. In the end, Darkman hooked the helicopter's crane cable to a truck and caused it to crash while it drove into a tunnel.

Durant however survived the crash and was rendered into a 878 day coma, from when he awoke from, he found his empire fledgling due to the ineptitude of his crew during his absence. To regain control black market gun trade, Durant had decided to provide a new weapon all together, more powerful than any conventional firearm.

He broke out a weapons scientist named Dr. Alfred Hathaway from a state institution for the criminally insane. Durant was interested in project Dr. Hathaway was developing before his arrest, an air cooled semi-automatic particle beam weapon. He accepted Durant's proposal on the condition that they found a building with a surplus of power, as the prototype model ran on conventional electricity, Durant assured the professor that he would provide the necessary assets.

Durant found a perfect location for a factory, an inner city power plant. The only obstacle was the current owner Dr. David Brinkman, who was using the place as his lab. He attempted to buy the property, but Brinkman refused to sell.

A few nights after the monetary offer, Durant and his crew visited Brinkman with the intention of pressuring him into selling, Brinkman didn't give in and attacked the criminals with a homemade laser device. Durant had his cronies brutally torture Brinkman to death.

The next move was to attempt to offer Brinkman's sister Laurie one million dollars for the property, which she agreed to. However when the day came to sign the deed over, Laurie refused upon hearing Durant's name. They then moved to force her cooperation, but she was aided by one of Durant's lackeys . They managed to capture Laurie and discover that the person helping her was none other than Peyton Westlake in disguise.

With the building, Hathaway produced several of the particle rifle's they had dubbed “The Vigilante”, and arranged the sale of these weapons to a Neo-Nazi vigilante group in hopes of wiping out all other competition in the city.

Knowing Darkman was after him, Durant grew paranoid and decided that the only way they could continue without trouble is if Westlake was dead. So he decided to use Laurie as bait to lure Darkman into his grasp, then he would kill them both. He was right when he discovered Darkman attempting to poison him. Durant came close to reducing his nemesis to ashes with the new weapon, but he demanded that he have one of Laurie's fingers and all ten of Darkman's. This threw Darkman into a rage and though a destructive series of events, Durant's crew, Dr. Hathaway, and the Neo-Nazi's were killed. Darkman then finally trapped Durant in his car and blew up with a remote controlled car bomb.

Durant had barely survived Darkman's murder attempt, but not without severe injuries and in an effort to save his life, his associates implanted his brain into an experimental android body.

Durant still runs his organization from underground, and keeps his interests in an iron grip.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Villain

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Robert Durant is evil personified, and I feel that someone in his position can be a major threat to the majority of our characters. He is very capable of bringing misery and destruction on a massive scale if he wanted to and if it was profitable. Anyone who stands in his way is subject to his sadistic retribution, and he knows all too well how to ruin someone's life.

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?: In the comics, Durant was rendered to being a head placed on robotic spider legs, like Mr. Freeze in the BTAS. This time, he's been put into more of a Terminator-like body after Darkman completely destroyed his human body.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG:

“The name isn't buddy! It's Durant! Robert G. Durant!”

Also a hardcore villain who can provide some well needed opposition for our heroes.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As much as I can, as many times as I can.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialog in length:

Arnold Collins sat at his desk while doing some midnight paperwork, marking up mutli-zero numbers in his clients ledger. He rubbed his eyes and sipped out of mug, but then spat the liquid right out as his coffee had gone cold. He stood up and went to fixed him a fresh cup.

"Mr. Collins, a Mr. Santos is here to see you." his secretary's voice said over the intercom on his desk.

Arnold gulped down some flem build up in his throat, he knew what this was about. He clicked the button to speak, "Alright, send him right in Peggy."

The door open and a thin Hispanic man with short oily hair and an expensive, if rather tacky suit walked in. He refused to shake Collins' hand, subituting greeting with a simple chin thrust. "Uh Hector, this is a surprise, you should have called."

"Didn't want you know I was coming." Hector replied, closing the door behind him, "You know what this is about?". Collins was confused and started to grown nervous, "Um, no, I uh did the books last week, numbers were nice and solid.". "Well the boss is concerned, you see he had a thorough look through the numbers, you see they look solid, but when he looked hard enough, he noticed some money had been missing from the overall sum." Hector replied.

Collins wiped his sweating palms on his pantlegs, "Well maybe it's typo, you know paperwork gets screwed up all the time, you could send me back the books and I'll have it fix in a jiff."

"Was that your car outside, the BMW? Very nice car, third one in two months for you isn't it?" Hector asked, smirking as the accountant started to go white. "What are you implying Hector, that I'm skimming? Your boss is not my only client, I'm very well off man." Collins stuttered, trying to sound insulted. "And your not the bosses' only shyster, but he keeps an eye on all of them." Hector replied.

Collins couldn't find anyway to defend himself, Hector noticed this and pressed the intercom button, "Take her out."

Two silenced gunshots rang from the intercom and the door was kicked opened by a massive man with an overly thick jaw. Collins fumbled for a drawer that held a .38, but before he could get to it, he was lifted from his seat by the huge man and slammed against his desk. Hector grabbed Collins' tie and wrapped it around his neck to choke him while the big guy held him down.

A third man walked into the room, a tall, stocky man with a roundish head, dressed in a brown suit and overcoat. The emotionless, almost catlike face stared at him with pale blue eyes with a mix of anger and predatory sadism. He reached into his pockets and drew out two items, in one hand, he held a cigar, and in the other, a golden cigar cutter. He snipped the end off the cigar and placed it into his mouth, he lit it and breathed in the rich smoke before nodding to his men. The large enforcer took Collins' hand and held it up, forcing the fingers to spread wide as his boss approached them.

"Now, let's consider my points, one by one."

Robert G. Durant slid his cigar cutter around Collins' pinky finger.

"One, I try not to let my anger get the better of me."

SNIP!

Collins screamed at the loss of his first digit.

"Two." Durant said, putting the cutter around his ring finger, "I don't always succeed."

SNIP!

Collins cried and moaned as his severed ring finger hit the floor.

"Three." Durant put the cutter on his middle finger, "I've got seven more points."

SNIP!

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype boards?:

First matter of buisness, the roster is updated. It's not properly formatted yet, but I wanted to get everyone on there before I went to research each character's individual font.

Secondly, Keyser Soze will remain on the roster as Randall Flagg for the moment, due to the circumstances of the character. If you're reading this, Soze, just tell me whether you'd like to remain or not.

And thirdly, well... I'm going to propose something a bit controversial to help us along with our storyline options and possible interaction. So bear with me on this.

As we know, the game didn't start with two characters being applicable, so to up the ante already on a mass character limit would be, IMO, a grave mistake. So that's not what I'm going to propose.

You see, we're currently short on villains. And that's an understatement, to be honest. We just really barely have any villains at all. Jason Vorhees is the only one I could officially consider one, and my descision to throw Keyser in there brings us up to a resounding two. But it's not enough. We can't go around doing both heroics and questionable heroics to make the game thrive on. There has to be a real prescence of, dare I say it... evil.

So, what I'm suggesting is a third character slot open only to villainous characters. If you wanted to play a villain, but your quota is filled, there'd be the option to apply for one anyway. And would it be judged a full fledged villain (you wouldn't be able to add a walking the line character and just label them a villain), you'd be approved.

Or maybe I'm overreacting. I'll let you guys be the judge. :o

I'm still around, MB. Not posting as Flagg right now as I don't feel there really IS anything for him to do. But if anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM me.

Master Tatsu was a dangerous man. He had killed many a man with his bare hands, and was an infamous ninja assassin known throughout the world. He was the first lieutenant to the master of the ninja clan known as The Foot.

But there was one thing that made the ninja sweat...talking to his master, Oroku Saki. And he hated it more when he had bad news.

Tatsu slowly opens the door to his master's meditation room, and stands at attention.

"What is it, Tatsu? Do you have a report on the freaks?"

The burly, bald man bows and begins, "Master Shredder, thirty men engaged the turtles earlier tonight."

"And?"

"The turtles managed to escape...and we lost seven men in the process. On top of that, we've gotten word that our location may have been given away."

"How, Tatsu?"

"Rorschach, apparently."

"Then it is time, my friend," the impressive form of Oroku Saki says as he stands and puts on his helmet.

"Time for what, Master Shredder?"

"For The Foot to return to it's place of prominance. We've been hiding and gaining our strength, but it is no longer the time for hiding. If the masks want to come out and fight us, then we shall do the same, with everything we've got."

The Shredder stroles over to a window that overlooks the compound's training dojo, and marvels at the warriors he has trained. It would only be a matter of time until what he want was his.

And he would kill all those that stood in his way.

SNIP!

I remember that from the opening of the first Darkman movie, almost twenty years later and it's still just as evil.

Durant is an evil mother****er indeed.

I had written an app for Freddy Krueger, but I'm already controlling one horror icon, and I would like to see someone else to take a whack at him if they wanted to. Also I felt I should bring a villain who could be a threat to just about everyone from law enforcement and government agents to our masked vigilantes.

From The Pages Of... RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Matt Murdock

Character you'd like to portray: Edward Morgan Blake, known as The Comedian

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: The Comedian is Edward Morgan Blake, who began his vigilante career in the 1960s as a teenager. Over the years, he became a patriotic hero for the United States. He is trained in hand-to-hand combat, use of firearms, and various other methods of "putting down" the bad guys. He is a cigar-chomping, gun-toting vigilante turned paramilitary agent.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Watchmen #1, Vertigo Limited Series (1986)

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it): In the 1970's, The Comedian was contacted to become apart of the new supergroup called The Crimebusters. The first meeting was a disaster, immediately belittled and dismembered by the prescence of The Comedian. As far as he was concerned, creating a new superteam served only to bolster glory and vanity. In the eyes of the man known as the Comedian, capes and gadgets weren't going to be enough to stop nuclear war. As the era pressed on, more and more pressure came from the public for the government to irradicate the superhero as a cultural staple. So, naturally, the government issued an ultimatum: register or quit. Surely, the crafters of the laws in question knew that some heroes would continue their vigilante efforts, such as Rorschach. The Comedian chose to register and, as such, was sent on missions by the government.

One such mission led him to a deserted island in 2005. He infiltrated the island and learned of its purpose, the realization of which was severely traumatizing. Unable to bear the burden of knowledge alone, Blake broke into the apartment of Edgar Jacobi, who had fought Blake years earlier as Moloch the Mystic, and rambled drunkenly about the island. Adrian Veidt, who was controlling the island's activity and had bugged Moloch's apartment for his own reasons, responded by personally murdering Blake, beating him and then throwing him through Blake's apartment window so Blake would fall to his death. The investigation of this incident by both the New York City police and Rorschach, opens the iconic graphic novel.

In this continuity, I put forth that Black didn't die and, instead, his fall was broken by scaffolding attached to the side of the building. After falling through several weak, plywood boards, he landed in a dumpster, suffering bone injuries. Nothing, however, was life threatening. In order to ensure that this doesn't merely become a Watchmen retelling, one of Blake's injuries will be psychiatric repression (or amnesia, either works... they both leave the possibility open for him remembering the attack eventually). So traumatic will the sights of the island and Veidt's attack be that Blake's subconscious will prevent him from remembering them (unless it's amnesia. in which case, he'll just remember at some point).

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Walking the line.

List a few reasons why you chose this character: He's Edward ****ing Blake! Watchmen is coming out this week and, well, I'd like to play a Watchman. Plus, it gives me some more chance to develop my Indy arc with Veidt. :yay:

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?: Um. H...he'll be alive?

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I'm fully aware that the third character rule applies only to villains. But, let's face it, a poster is a poster and a character is a character. If I can post consistently with all three of my characters (which I'll be able to do once I sort of the arcs with the other players), then this'll still be helpful. I know he's not a bad guy, but the Comedian is a character who can stimulate action and dialog. Plus, I'd love to write with some of the folks on the Watchmen.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: It depends on the action.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Get up.

A heart-rate monitor sat next to Edward Blake's bed. He couldn't move. The man once known as The Comedian was barely conscious.

Get up, dammit.

He cursed himself within his own mind. A dull aching encompassed his form. He recognized the stench of a hospital when he smelled it. His time in Vietnam, just after he had started busting punks in Harlem, had taught him the stink of disinfectant and medicince when he smelled it.

"Good morning, Edward."

The voice was familiar. Familiar from a while back. Three, maybe four years.

"Adrian?" The Comedian asked quietly, his voice muffled, lips dry.

"The very same."

"What's going on?" Blake asked, the realization slowly dawning on him that he didn't know where he was.

"All in due time, Edward." Veidt said, quietly closing the door to the hospital room. "All in due time."

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype boards?: Yes.

MM, don't forget you're still playing Daredevil over in the regular Marvel RPG.

Shredder and Durant are approved by me, aswell.

Murdock, my apologies for this. You've done great work for helping the RPG, but I can't give an exception to anyone. If Comedian's coming in, someone's going out. I understand that you want to help, and I admire and appreciate the gesture... but you're essentially asking for a third hero, vicious as he may be.

I suspect you're going to combat me on this, so I'm not going to flat-out deny your application.

My only problem with the app is that he has already been thrown out his apartment by Ozzy.

I was kind of hoping Blake's death, and by death I mean he actually becomes street pizza, would start a large arc concerning many characters in the RPG.

But plans are just plans and they always change.

And other than that, it looks all good.

Then I'll drop Bauer.

Glad to see you're keeping Indy, MM.

On a side note, would anybody be up for making me a banner for Shredder?

Screen Name: Green Lantern

Character you'd like to portray: Buffy Summers

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Buffy is a tremendous athlete, do to slight boosting from her being the Chosen. She is also adept at using nearly any type of weapon, including improvised weapons.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Horse Comics

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it):
Buffy lives in the small California town of Sunnydale, California. Her and her mother moved from Los Angeles after one of her first encounters with vampires burned down her school's gym. In Sunnydale, Buffy has been fighting vampires, demons and other supernatural forces for years, getting better as she has.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I love Joss Whedon's work, and his new series (Dollhouse) has gotten me to start watching Buffy from the begining again. I want to play someone from the Buffyverse, and Buffy's the one that fits the bill the most, as we already have had an Angel and a Spike.

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?: I have some ideas that will take her away from the Hellmouth for some arcs... Burbank? *winks at Wieg*

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I have an idea for a good crossover event. I can also bring murder, mayhem and wanton destruction, but on the side of all that is holy and good.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG:
As many as necessary, at least one.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

"Ugh."

Buffy put the book down in disgust. Willow glanced over at her, raising her eyebrows. "Not good, huh?"

"Sparkling vampires? Really? How can pop culture get it so wrong?"

"Well at least the series is done?"

"But now there are movies! How many teenage girls are going to fall for someone like Spike because these vampires are cute and cuddly?"

Xander looked up from his own book, and grinned. "You mean like someone falling for Angellus, and nearly ending the world with her funbags?"

Buffy glared at Xander, and he went back to his book.

"That was different, and you know it."

Chucking Twilight to the side, she turned on the television. A town in Alaska hadn't been heard since night fell there nearly two weeks ago. She didn't know why, but she got a bad feeling about that.

"Oh no." She heard Giles's voice confirming her bad omen.

"What, Giles?"

"Hold on, let me..." He rummaged through his books. "Ah here it is. Every hundred years this happens. A travelling horde of vampires gets anxious and attacks a township to the far north. They wipe out the entire population in the weeks they have without sunlight. Then they will move to the far south and do the same, and they go for five years in this pattern before going into a bit more seclusion again. This is a bad omen I'm afraid."

"Oh joy. Who's up for a field trip?"

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype boards?:

Fictional history of the character (as you're going to interpret it):
Gwen had a simple life, she had a love-hate relationship with her cousin, Ben. She grew up without knowing her late-grandmother was a energy type being. After Gwen helped Grandpa Max and Ben on journeys of discoveries during a camping trip, she discovered she had powers of her own, which descended from her grandmother.

List a few reasons why you chose this character:

2.) She will be fun to play
3.) She kicks ass

How will this character differ from it's original incarnation?:
She will gain an alias and discover more power than usual in Alien Force.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I can bring a kid's cartoon character to an Rpg. Yay me.

As many as needed

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

"Hold it!" Gwen shouts, she spots a magical being running lose on the earth it's self. Gwen hovers calmly, a pink energy ring appears around her clenched fists, her eyes glowing pink. The magical creature, believed to be a Pixie in human length, growls at Gwen. The pixie then shoots golden dust at Gwen. Gwen chuckles, Golden Dust? Come On

The dust swirls around her, it starts to wrap onto Gwen, it seems to be draining out all her powers. The pixie then laughs, looking at a struggling Gwen. Gwen finally gains control over the dust, she stretches out her arms and flicks her wrists. The golden durst bursts and dissolves into the air around her. It's Gwen's turn now. She shoots energy at the Pixie, the Pixie is sent flying back into the wall of a nearby building. Gwen hovers over to the scene, people crowd round. Luckily Gwen has her new outfit on. Smoke comes out of the scene, it quickly fades away, but by then, the pixie is gone.

Gwen stretches out her hand, her eyes still flickering with pink flames.
"Come on Pixie, Pixie, where arrre you?" Gwen chants. Gwen bowls her head down, a sinister smile slides onto her face. The crowd gasp as Gwen shoots off, inside the building. People in the offices seemed confused and dazzled, they rub their eyes in disbelief. Gwen stops. She looks around, carefully turning her head.
"What's everyone staring at?"

Durant.jpg

It's funny, Durant made such an impression on me back when I first saw Darkman as a kid, that Larry Drake was my first casting pick for Doctor Octopus, years and years before Spider-Man crawled out of development hell.

He'd would probualy have pulled off a pretty good Doctor Octopus.
