Frozen 2

And just a few days ago (Monday, today is Thursday, fast turn around) I was reading this...
The film's directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck tell Buzzfeed that they've read online rumors about a follow-up, but they've all been news to them:

Buck says: "Its been in the press that we are doing it, and we would ask each other, 'Are we?' They'd have a date and they'd have a cast and it was like, OK."

Lee adds: "It all comes down to the story. Like with the short, it was so daunting until we found the story. Then it was all of the things it usually is and we were thinking of every emotion and moment and feeling. I think that's all we can do. Until we find our way into what's next, emotionally, it will feel too big. We just finished the short two weeks ago. One year ago, it was a lot to even think about doing a short. We were quite tired. We don't really know what it's like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next."

This would certainly indicate a sequel is not in the works yet, and as animated films take several years to produce - a follow-up seems unlikely to hit until the end of the decade if not beyond that. Lee meanwhile is about to start working on the Broadway adaptation of the film.

I hope Bell and Menzel held out for a nice pay raise and a cut of the profits from merchandise.

WSJ's Speakeasy confirmed Kristen Bell will be back, and Bell had fun with the news on her Twitter page.

Josh Gad was at the shareholders' meeting too, so I'm sure he's back for Olaf. No word on whether Idina Menzel is officially on board, but I can't imagine she'll refuse.

She talked about being excited for a sequel. She will be back. I just hope her voice holds up.

Like I said, looks like they found the story. Or more likely. they were saying a small fib to avoid spoiling the surprise.

Yeah but I hope she held out before signing on.

As much as I like Kristen Bell, she nor Menzel don't have the clout to get a cut of the merchandise sales (except soundtrack sales). I'm pretty sure both will get a nice 7 figure sum each for returning, plus bonuses.

Maybe the actresses will get a percentage of box office profits if their agents are shrewd enough. They certainly deserve that much.

So Disney's finally gotten over their sequel-phobia have they, cool. I guess over a billion dollars at the box-office, critical acclaim, and academy award, and god knows how many merchandising dollars would inspire confidence in anyone.

Ok, the obvious way to go would be for Elsa to use her powers (which she can now control) to HELP save the day.

Disney just keeps building franchise after franchise...like they're preparing for something huge.

She did in the first movie...

Looking at the production time table for Frozen makes me think... November or December 2017 for the sequel. Buck & Lee will have more time to storyboard and animate the sequel than they did the first.

I mean in a way that doesn't involve fixing something that she herself caused. Also I wonder if we'll see Crown Prince *****enozzle again?

Methinks that they will introduce a love interest for Elsa in the non-typical fashion in-keeping with how Frozen usually handled love interests.

Maybe a man with fire powers?

[slowly pushes Rescuers Down Under into the closet...]

[and Fantasia 2000...]

At least it's by the original directors and animators and not a direct to video "cheapquel" like the ones in the 90s/2000s, ugh.

I hope the Lopezes are doing the music again.

There's a bazillion fanfics about that already XD

Exactly what I fear will happen...

And then they'll be a Billion more!

And it will have the central message of Anna and Kristoff telling Elsa that it's ok to open her heart to said love interest etc in the same vein as Anna telling Elsa that she is loved like in the first movie.

So anyone want to play out the rest of this movie?

Not a surprise at all. The first movie made over a billion dollars, of course there was going to be a sequel.

I suppose they're just going to ignore all the stuff that happened in the Once Upon a Time 'Frozen' storyline, which included Hans trying to take over the kingdom and Anna betrothed to Kristoff.

I really hope they stay away from any hint of 'Elsa loses control of her powers and causes havoc' story. We've seen enough of that already. There must be another story they can tell.

Why would they include anything from OUaT?

I don't really want Elsa to have a love interest (unless they have a REALLY good story for it). Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with Anna/Kristoff, it really worked. But I don't like the idea that Elsa HAS to have a love interest just because, well she's a lead female character in a Disney movie. Especially since they went out of their way NOT to do that in the first time.

They surprised us all with the story they had in the first movie so it's likely that they could come up with a love story for Elsa that doesn't at all come off cliched. They could come up with a Fire-Wielding Prince character who matches wits with Elsa.
