Funny People (New Judd Apatow movie)

Not a fan of Woody Allen.

Let me paraphrase, I don't like comedies that try too hard to be serious and I don't like dramas that try too hard to have comedy. It just doesn't mesh well and most of the time, it feels forced either way. I am sure there are directors that have done it but there is a reason why we don't see a ton of dramatic comedies or comedic dramas...however you say it or whatever genre name it has. Why? Because both take you away from the other. You are laughing your butt off at the funny moments and then it shifts to a serious tone. Or, you are feeling for the character's struggles and life pains and then people are making penis, fart, or sex jokes. It just doesn't mesh well.

did you not see In Bruges it did this very well

This movie was garbage. It seriously didn't know what it wanted to be & it had no ending worth a damn. I knew what this movie was going in so pls don't come back at me with, "missunderstanding the movies theme". To me it was to serious to be a comedy & to funny to be a drama, it was a mess. Nothing got resolved, Sandlers character learned nothing & as a result it left the movie open ended & kinda pointless. They showed no progression of the friendship between Sandler & Rogens characters & yet they still remained friends at the end of the movie, illogical & forced IMO. Also Sandler should have died from the lukemia in the movie. To me him being magically cured by fake medicine does a disservice to real Lukemia patients everywhere who will die. Also it would have really touched ppl to see a movie about seeing what you have when you don't have much time left & making amends, but they failed. Sandler needs to go back to doing what he does best, I.E Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer etc etc, it's what he does best & it's what I love him for. 2 out of 5 for me

I thought this movie was great. The performances were all good, Sandler himself was awesome, and I also liked how it wasn't just another jerk-off comedy and actually had real characters with real situations.

That's what Apatow does best: real characters in real situations, with a funny side. And that's exactly what this movie was.

My only real criticism was that it was way too long.
