Judd Apatow Says 'Pineapple Express 2' Likely, 'Superbad 2' Not So Much

Looking for a sequel to the hit summer comedy "Superbad"? Don’t expect to get one anytime soon. The genius producer behind the film, Judd Apatow, revealed as much when he sat down to talk shop with his fans on Funny or Die yesterday. While "Pineapple Express 2" looks like it may hit theaters at some point in the foreseeable future, "Superbad" won’t be getting a sequel.
(Editor's note: I would have embedded the video here, but Judd Apatow is a profane man and the words he uses are too much for members of our reading audience. I welcome you to track it down on the great ship Internets.)
“I can't get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to make the ‘Superbad’ sequel. I begged, but they don't want to ruin it. They think it's a gem of a movie and they don't want a crappy second," Judd said. He later stated, "There's a little talk about a 'Pineapple Express' sequel if that's your cup of tea... your bowl of smoke. You probably have a better shot of seeing that [than any 'Superbad 2' or any other Apatow sequel]."
Beg more, Judd! We want a sequel! Despite Rogen and Goldberg’s stubbornness on making one, I have to agree that “Superbad” was a crown jewel. Since sequels often turn out way worse than the original, maybe skipping it is best. But surely after a long, thought out process, a screenplay could materialize into something that would be worthwhile to see.
For a movie that made nearly $200 million at the box office and served as a launch pad for the careers of Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Emma Stone, there is surely money to be made. Just make it not suck. Simple.
Personally, I’ve been longing to see what happens to Seth (Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) next. They kind of left us hanging at the end of "Superbad" with questions to be answered about the boys and their love interests. They could Rogen and Goldberg could show us Seth and Evan moseying through their college lives with the infamous McLovin (Mintz-Plasse) tagging along. Upping the stage from high school to college is certainly an idea.
Apatow recently finished off “Get Him to the Greek,” a spin-off of “Forgetting Sarah MarshallRussell Brand will reprise his role as Aldous Snow while Jonah Hill will be taking on a whole new character, playing a music label intern tasked with escorting Snow to his a LA show.

Hope this happens.
The more I watch Pineapple Express, the more I love it.

McBride better be back.

Him and Franco were the only thing that made the first one watchable. And Ed Begley.

Superbad a crown jewel? about the funny thing I laughed at was the drawings of penises during the credits.

agreed. the genre of "horny high school boys trying to sleep with drunk chicks in a last ditch effort to get laid before they graduate" has been done to death.

I'm up for a Pineapple Express sequel. Superbad? Eh, not so much. Didn't like the first one that much.

I freakin loved Superbad, but I'm glad they're not going for a sequel, I'm happy with it just being a one off gem.

What about Superbad 2??? Wow it seems downright logical! I would love to see sequels to both movies really. They did leave us hanging at the end of Superbad plus I can never get enough Emma Stone. Just something about her and Kat Dennings just drives me nuts!

Good point but with Superbad it was an actual good version of that kind of story. Most of the ones I had seen before were just decent to ******.

As for a sequel, hell no. I agree with Rogen letting Superbad stand alone.

Now Pineapple Express 2 I would definitely watch and maybe it might actually be a good stoner sequel after being immensely disappointed with Harold and Kumar 2.

Don't see a reason for a sequel, but if it's as good as the first then why not.

Superbad is super overrated. (see what I did there? ) I put it up there with Napolean Dynomite and Titanic, waaay overhyped.

Its not as bad as Napoleon Dynamite, nothing almost compares to the awfulness of that film.

pineapple express sequel would be fun...superbad sequel would be cool but i just don't know where i see it going except the direction of american pie 2 or something...pineapple express was like a classic stoner adventure. maybe not a classic to some people...but to um...to a certain crowd I'll say.

Yes, please. The first one ruled so hard. I'm all for a sequel, but only if it's not the typical, give-me-your-money kind that rides on the coattails of its predecessor. And moar McBride is a must, too, thanks.

Pineapple Express was a movie that disappointed me the first time around, even though I enjoyed it, but I loved it the next few times I saw it. I have no idea what a sequel would be like but I'm not against it.

I love Superbad but screw a sequel. I would have been game for a spinoff with Officers Slater and Michaels though. Personally, Bill Hader should be in more stuff than he is.

seeing as how we are now getting a Knocked Up spinoff with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann's characters, i think it would be cool to get a Superbad spinoff with Bill Hader and Seth Rogen's characters. that bonus footage of them 2 driving around their police car with perps in the backseat is hilarious :woot:

I have a feeling a Superbad sequel would something that would be Direct to DVD, either about the brothers of the main characters that no one knew about or about Mclovin'.

Ehh. Pineapple Express is one of the weakest Apatow produced movies I think. Then again a sequel wouldnt bother me.
