Myabe. But it doesn't matter. Wether he masterminded the toys or not, Hama did basically create the G.I. Joe Universe as we know it.

True, but that is merely one man's interpretation of it. I am sure many of you who played with the toys as a kid did not always adhere to this interpretation and made changes as you saw fit. Hence, why shouldn't the producers and Hasbro itself be given the same opportunity and liberty considering they're still keeping to the same basic premise (elite team versus terrorists, specifically Cobra)?

The actual story, essentially the main thing that should be adapted into a film, comes from the comics.

True, but that is merely one man's interpretation of it. I am sure many of you who played with the toys as a kid did not always adhere to this interpretation and made changes as you saw fit. I don't really think that's an apt analogy. Because I could read, I'd look at comics and make up my own diologue. Doesn't mean that they should fundamentally change the story that's already been set in place.

As I've said before, changing the Joes from an American team to an international one doesn't change the fundamentals of G.I. Joe. The term 'International Heroes' has equal and as much precedence as 'A Real American Hero'. At the very core of the Joe vs Cobra version of G.I. Joe is just that; G.I. Joe versus Cobra.

It does not have equal precedence. It has precedence, yes, but only in the toy line. In the cartoon and the comics, they're an American team. And the cartoon and the comics (especially the comics) are where the actual story is.

Oh, don't take it as me trying to argue against how you all feel the movie should be portrayed. I was just bringing it up, somewhat off-topic.

Here's the story:

Larry Hama had created an idea for a Marvel comic about a team with different military specialists. It contained among other characters the son of Nick Fury.

Hasbro approached Marvel because they wanted a comic to accompany their new toyline. These action figures was a direct response to the Star Wars toys.

Marvel turned to Larry Hama, who had a concept ready, and there you go. Son of Nick Fury was Hawk btw.
Comic and toy debuted more or less the same month, summer 1982.
Cartoon was made one year later.

Larry Hamas Joes were pretty far from the 60-70s Special Forces G.I.Joe. But you all have different views on this, I'm not going to tell you about the international aspect og Hamas 'Joe, and the cleverly hidden comments towards the US government, and most importantly; the portrayal of war as something you cant blame on one part.
I'm simply going to write that Hamas G.I.Joe was a smarter comic than many understands, and that I hope the movie can replicate some of this brilliance.
