Sequels Gambit

You know if they do introduce Gambit in a sequel, there is a chance that he might not be Cajun...For instance...

Colossus is not Russian
Pyro is not Australian
Rogue is not a Southern Belle
Callisto has two eyeballs

I would not put it past these people to have Gambit be from Michigan or even worse...Canadian...

i am aware of the inconsistencies

but lets be honest

for as much as some xmen fans(not me) didn't like X3, there is not a soul on earth who has any ties to xmen whatsoever, TAS as a kid included that won't be completley dissapointed and scornful if Gambit does not have the cajuin accent

if this desicion gets made there should be a riot and all involved with the desicion should be offed

I don't care anymore. They can cast Will Smith as Gambit for all I care or they can cast Guy Pearce (good choice, actually). And I still won't see it. X3 ruined it.

I have to agree with Flip. Rogue DID have a southern accent in the films. She just had a real-world southern accent, not a ridiculously overblown cartoony southern accent that someone would effect if they have never heard a real southern accent in their entire lives.

i don't think Colossus matters as much as much because he is such a non character right now

Cajuin is the dialect that is named after the french inhabitors of the Southern states Louisiana, and New Orleans(as a city) in particular, it is a more americanized form of a french dialect that came there from the frenches influence on that part of the early americas

it is kind of offensive to some apparently (i do not know for sure i have only been told) to be called a Cajun, where as others where it like pride (much like redneck)

it is very similar to the style of french people of the canadian provences (that is what they have in Canada right? lol) like Quebec, and the city of Montreal speak

Well, if you want to get technical, there really aren't many Cajuns in New Orleans--New Orleans culture has a stronger Creole influence, but the two aren't the same thing--Cajun culture is centered in Lafayette and the 22 parishes to the West and South of New Orleans; Cajun French is derived from Acadian French (the Acadians were forced out of Acadia (think Nova Scotia) in 1755, which explains some of the similarities to certain French Canadian dialects). Cajun French is also dying out, due both to discriminatory efforts in the early part of the 20th century to discourage teaching the language and the perception that speaking primarily English would help improve the financial prospects among Cajuns; a lot of people I know who identify as Cajun don't have a trace of the stereotypical accent. Actually, the fact that Gambit is supposedly a Cajun from New Orleans is something a lot of people from the area take issue with. I'd prefer a movie version of Gambit to either be a New Orleanian with a New Orleans (not Southern) accent, or a Cajun (perhaps originally from say, Lafayette or Thibodaux) who came to New Orleans--but even then, the accent really shouldn't be as exaggerated as in the comics.

The charcaters should be kept the same. Accents and all. It makes them the charcter they are.

I have almost no doubt, given the characterization of Gambit, that the latter reason is the reason why Gambit is characterized as such an (incorrect) extreme stereotype. And, to a certain extent, I can forgive exaggerated accents in a printed medium, (ie comics) because accents tend to be very subtle and subtle's hard to do in text. All I'm saying is, in my fantasy world where there is going to definitely be an X4 and Gambit is a centerpiece in it, if the relatively high degree of realism (for a comic book movie) is to be maintained, then Gambit's accent should be updated to more accurately reflect what an actual Cajun person sounds like, especially if he's to be portrayed as in his 20s--most young Cajuns I've met don't have too much of an accent, and the strongly stereotypical accent would just be jarring.

I just want Gambit to have a slight accent. I don't want it to be destracting from the actors acting. The actor should be able to focus on his acting more than the accent.
