I must admit, when I first heard his idea of doing what is presumably a prequel featuring the (film version of the) original team, thinking a full-on sequel with the younger X-men (Iceman, Rogue, Shadowcat, Colossus ) would be better. But the more I got to thinking about it, the more I love the idea. I realized that not only would it be cool to focus on the original, smaller team , but it would be the perfect chance to show on film things that X-fans have been clamoring for for 7 years now:
- First off, we could see more comic accurate black and gold versions of the costumes like what they wear in the First Class comic, with these being considered their "original costumes" before they were modified down the road.
- Because Wolverine wouldn't be around yet, he wouldn't be able to take away from Cyclops' role this go around so Cyclops would have a much bigger role than in the previous films
_ This would be a great opportunity to introduce Gambit. Obviously the film version of the original team is a bit different than the comic book version with Angel and Iceman not coming around until later, and Storm instead being one of the originals. So if they decided that they wanted to have the same number of original members, even if the actual membership is a little different, they could introduce Gambit as the fifth original member. Now this could make things a little difficult for X4 being as how a lot of people wanted a Rogue and Gambit relationship, but I think it would be an interesting concept to have her dating someone 10 years or so her senior, and would probably make Iceman very jealous.
So what are your thoughts, and who do you think should be cast as the younger versions of the characters, and about what age do you think the characters should be?
