Game mechanics that piss you off or are just missing

I remember when you team up with that sherriff chick, she was a crack shot against those taken, they did a good job with her A.I., any other time, the npc would run out and try to get killed

I don't know if this counts, but timed demo's piss me off so much. like Mafia 2, they advertise this huge open world with an authentic 40's/50's feel. yet, they give you 10 minutes in demo and 1/4th of the city to explore. wtf? i was looking forward to exploring.

Yeah, I liked that segment. Especially since you ran through town for a lot of it, as opposed to being whisked away to the forest like in almost every other episode.

Well they do that in hopes of it enticing you enough to want to go out and buy the game once it releases. I can't stand when an enemy falls victim to clipping, this occured while I was playing Mass Effect 2, an enemy was literally inside the wall, and I had to kill him in order to move on. I had to restart the mission. :cmad:

I was swarmed by enemies so badly at one point in The Forgotten Sands that I fell through the floor. It was super-weird. :o

One time i started up Read Dead Redemption and when it loaded, all of the characters were standing in T pose, i died laughing, they wouldn't react until I shot them lol

That sucks! It's like they want you to buy the game before letting you explore the entire gameworld!

I can't stand when it seems like enemies reload their weapons faster than you. Happened so many times in Gears of War. I nail the active reload, but somehow, the Locust are already reloaded lol

When a game make ***** unnecessarily hard. Like Oblivion: You can get as many as 3 +5 attributes boosts each time you level, but does the game let you know the boosts you have while you're leveling? F$@k no!!! I have a goddamn word document where I used to constantly update so I could keep track... for the first forty hours. Lately I've just kept track once I have 5-7 major skill points. I know every Morrowind player who just read this died of laughter, but I'm an action/survival horror gamer. I don't have to crunch numbers in almost every other game I've played in my life. Hell, F3 wasn't nearly as frustrating.

And as a side note, I hate the subconscious mechanic of making a game pull you in like cocaine.:cmad:

And I also hate the **** someone said about there being cut scenes before and after fights in every DMC game/Bayonetta. GOW is guilty too, but at least there aren't cut scenes to shove it in gamer's faces that they can't run away from the fight. Dumbasses. I know I do **** over and over that isn't good, so I'm a hypocrite.:oldrazz:

I hate games that dont let you skip the introductory part of games. Sometiems I dont want to watch all that stuff in the beginning and sometimes they are really long. I hate when you cant bypass that and have to wait 10+ min before you can actually start playing the game. Just let the player press start to skip. Its annoying especially if you've played the game before

I hate it when a game forces you to play through it once to unlock the hardest difficulty. If I want to play on the hardest mode, allow me the option to do so when I first start the game.

thats unskippable? I watched it all from the beginning bc but Id be upset if and when I were to play it from the beginning agian
Oh, I don't know, I thought I remembered you saying you were gonna start RDR up again or something.

nah must have been someone else. It busy finishing up GTA IV TBOGT and then moving onto Modnation Racers

I don't know where to start with Kane and Lynch 2, there are so many things that I/O Interactive jus ****ed up

-Cover system allows you to get hit
-Enemy AI is a crack shot
-Kane is virtually useless
-The game itself makes you rely on throwing gas cans and shooting them to clear enemies
-Guns that shouldn't be accurate at long distances are accurate (shotguns) wtf

For reals. I can understand making cutscenes unskippable if it's the first time you're running through the game, but after that, no. What's especially annoying is if a boss battle starts with a cutscene and the game auto-saves before that cutscene, forcing you to sit through it every single time if you die and have to start over. That's the kind of thing that puts controllers through windows. :o

Not to make this into an Oblivion thread, but playing it right after Bioshock 2 made me notice elemental attacks have no real effect besides taking away HP. If I hit someone with a badass cold spell, they should at the very least slow down (ditto for electric/fire spells and their obvious effects). The spell calm stops people from moving, so it's not like Bethesda would've had a hard time.

So....I was playing Saints Row (been trying to beat it, but I keep losing interest in it) and I got to a mission where you had to meet up with some head guy for the Los Carnales gang, basically, you drive to a point and when he spots you, he immediately chases you. Everything was going good until his boys made me spin out of control and off a bridge. The "homie" that was with me needed to be revived, so I did so, then out of nowhere, like 6 rival gang members showed up, I had to take them all down while my dimwitted homie ran around like a chicken with his head cut off. The guy that was chasing us came in like a bat out of hell, jumped his vehicle off the same bridge that I got knocked off of and landed in the water, he got out and was floating in the water, the game wouldnt allow me to shoot the guy at all, they wanted me to literally run from him. WTF, why can't I just kill him right then and there?!?!?!? Let me guess....he's essential to the story.......stupid

Sandbox games are pretty notorious for emergent wackiness like that. It sucks, but I can excuse it given that the game's AI is trying to manage the inner workings of an entire city in addition to whatever you might be directly interacting with.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, when you hit something while driving, depending on the impact, it will eject the driver from the vehicle. The way the guy was chasing was insane, yet...when he jumped the bridge and crashed into the ground, winding up in the water, he was never ejected from the vehicle.

Also, I was playing Dark Void, yet another game that I had to force myself to play through, I couldnt help but notice the idiotic AI by both the enemies and NPC characters. Enemies will sometimes literally stand there and wait to get shot up, and the game loves throwing missions at you where you have to defend a small group of idiots, they literally do not kill any enemies, so it results in you having to move all over the map to stop hordes of robots from killing them. Towards the end of the game, you have to defend this ship from "the robots", in a game like this where they hype up the fact that you get to fly around and shoot stuff with your jetpack, why is it so cumbersome???? I was able to kill all the enemies with a turret gun, thus eliminating the need to use a jetpack.

I realized after I got bored during the demo for that game that it wasn't for me. :funny:
