So, it finally got added to the Playstation Store last night. Has anyone else tried it? I played through the demo level with Kim Pine (my favorite character from the series, of course), and I loved it. It's basically a mash-up of every awesome game from the 16-bit era. The main game is like a Final Fight/Streets of Rage-style beat-'em-up, there's a world map like Super Mario Bros. 3, you earn XP and unlock new moves over time, etc.
The only problem I had with it was the difficulty. Maybe I just suck, but it seemed like the game was not only really hard (even on easy), but like it was actually working against me at times. For example: I leveled up to the point where I could hit a button when I got hit to perform a counter, but every time I got hit I would get hit a whole mess of times by an enemy's combo, and no matter how many times I hit the button, I never got a counter. I think it's limited solely to the first hit, which would be fine, except the counter button is also the block button, and I would never block while enemies were chaining combo hits together all over my face either. Meanwhile, the enemies can easily block in the middle of my combos. Just seemed like an unfair setup.
Granted, I only played alone and it definitely seems like the type of game that would be far better with others. Other people could cover you and keep you from getting surrounded and such. Either way, it was still super-fun. I'll probably still buy it myself, but I imagine I'll actually play it more at my friends' house with them. We were just saying last weekend that we could use a good beat-'em'-up with local co-op.
