Finally saw the episode. Was not expecting that scene between Loras and Renly, and in truth had completely forgot about them being together.
The Eyrie was pretty close to how I imagined it.

i guess tricking people at work is universal. seems we all have seen it no matter where we are, lol.

i've been reading the book... and my suspiscions have been confirmed about why Jon Arynn was murdered... but the way they were confirmed... just blew my mind!!

MAJOR SPOILER...
I can't believe that Ned just right out told the queen he knew she was sleeping with Jaimie and that ALL her kids are his and not Roberts... and how she just said... yup.

IT BLEW MY FRAGILE LITTLE MIND!!

There's more to John Arynn's death than that. You'll have to wait till the end of book 3 though.

did I read that right? Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister?

**** yea!!!! I always pictured either him or Patrick Stewart

Cool last time I saw Charles Dance was in Merlin and Your Highness

Dude, you read my mind! For me he was always Patric Stewart, or at times Jeremy Irons (dyed blond of course) or the bad guy from Last Action Hero, the dude with the eye.

How's about this for an "outside pick." If they were going to cast for just acting ability not based on anything but that, my pick would have been Avery Brooks. Think about it, the dude is pretty good right. I know, I know, there can be no Lannister that is not a blonde haired, blue eyed, blah blah blah.

You know the guy with the glass eye from Last Action Hero is Charles Dance right?

I pictured a mean tough bald man...Patrick Stewart would have been clutch!

But so far I have no problems with the casting...Just hope the success grows and makes this a HBO household name.

Clearly the best fantasy show on tv

Ned's good, but he's a Knight who's glory days are 20 or so years past (more evident when you look at his contemporary Robert) and just wants to live in peace in the north.

I'd say the tv series does far better in showing what youre talking about than the book.

In the book Ned is 35. if Jaime is the same age as Cersei and shes been married to the King for 17 years, that would place Ned and Jaime pretty close age wise.

However the way they cast the show, Ned looks to be hovering around 45 - 50, while Jamie looks mid to low 30s - so yes, it looked like a knight who was in his prime years ago (Ned) was going up against a knight in his prime (Jamie).

I finished the first book and will be starting the second tomorrow. I have to say Im a bit disappointed with the fates of a few of these characters.

The Sansa chapter late in the book.... with Joffrey is *****ED UP! I cant remember the last time I witnessed a character subjected to such outright cruelty.

Yes, you notice that everyone is aged up to make things less weird I guess. A 14 year old girl marrying a Dothraki Khal and having his kid might not play so well.

The aging up does work good on the show though, because as you say, it's a more visible difference. A 30 year old is not that much different from a 22 year old in athleticism and power. But making them look like 40 to 30 makes a better contrast.

Yes, things do get messed up at the end. You see why we say that people might get pissed at the ending? Look at all the speculation and how off the mark they all are.

Oh, just you wait to find out the fate of the sword.

(DO NOT READ unless you've already read the first book)

Chicken
You mean Ice used to behead Ned?

And yea, the f'ed up chapter was Joffrey rubbing Sansas nose in it - keeping the head dipped in tar to preserve it and showing it to her, etc)

Seems the Lannisters got of pretty easy.

i expect if we see that...it would be the most talked about thing in tv...i think we will

I sincerely hope you guys who have not read the books are not looking on those spoilers. Really, don't even get tempted on this page.

I have to agree with Chicken. Part of the greatness and endearing qualities of the books is the shock factor, and this book has plenty of them. Just take the time to let the story unfold or go read the books so you can find things out faster.

I can't wait to see Tywin and Tyrion on the screen together.

I've been watching since the first episode but I haven't read the books yet...I'm a big fan of magic of fantasy. By any chance, does the storyline involve witchcraft or sorcery at all?

Is there a witch, or mage character in the storyline at all? I'm just curious...
