Game of Thrones - HBO part 2

Haha! That part was AWESOME! I have a new favorite phrase now as well. "Milking the eel" hahahaha

I intend to read the books sometime this year (not right now).

However, I shouldn't have to read the book to like a show as you suggest that is what you want from this show. And you're still attacking a number of great scenes because they weren't in the book. That's not because they're bad, but because they're different. By that logic Coppola did a terrible job adapting The Godfather when he made the hits on the four dons and Moe Green happen simultaneously and juxtaposed it with the baptism of Carlo and Connie's baby. That was a huge departure from how the book handled that....and it was bloody brilliant. One of the best scenes in movie history and far and away better than what Puzo did on the page. Same with how Coppola and Pacino developed Michael or how he and Cazale and Coppola made Fredo more of a sweet, helpless man-child in the film.

These are changes from the book. Are they bad? No. They make the movie much better.

Allow me to sharpen my thoughts... Most of the added scenes IMO was a complete waste of time and mostly awful, and it has nothing to do with them not being in the books. Maybe you'll understand what i'm talking about when you'll read the books.
Other than that... I have no problems with changes in TV shows based on books, as long as it's advancing the plot and it's not there for a "filler", and most of those scenes i mentioned looked to my like Fillers... And bad ones.
I've seen a lot of film and TV Shows based on books... And i can recognize bad adoptions when i see them. Weiss&Benioff Should have learned from shows like "Dexter" and movies like "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Green Mile" and even the "LOTR" movies how to do it right! They didn't... But that only me. No one need to agree with me about it.

We're at at an impasse, but I'll still point out that you say:

Maybe you'll understand what i'm talking about when you'll read the books.

Your entire argument is that these scenes were not needed in the book, so they must not be needed in the show. TV is a different medium and half the scenes you named were about developing characters we can't get inside the heads of to understand what makes them tick and what they feel. Otherwise they're, as I've said, chess pieces on this board being moved by exposition about events that happened 20 years before the show's tale began. You may want it like that, but it would make for a boring show. The writers have wisely chosen to develop these characters differently and you are angry about that.

There is nothing I can do to change your opinion about it. But if the scenes only seem bad "if I read the book," then the scenes aren't bad. They're just not in the book. For this medium that sometimes is a necessity.

Here's my thoughts on this, because I've been following the production of this show for a long time. George RR Martin warned us a while ago that this was not going to be a word for word transaltion although he trusted Benioff and Weise to get the spirit of the books to the show and I think for the most part they've done that. Now I agree with some of your points in that some of the added scenes don't seem to make much sense in the overall plot (The Theon and the Ros character scene come to mind). However I think that's the by product of making this a TV series. You'll have multiple writers come on board and include their own bits and pieces of things that they think are important. Overall though I think they've done a fantastic job of taking a very difficult book to translate and fleshing out parts that need it and trimming fat on things that need trimming. Keep in mind George RR Martin himself wrote episode 8 so I'm curious what your take on that episode will be.

Fred Flinstone had me cracking up this episode

*SLAP*
I should wear this like a badge of honor
"Wear it in silence or I shall honor you again".

****ing classic.

Haha yeah!
Tyrion's confessions of his sins was PERFECT! LOL, I loved that part!

Yeah, Tyrion is the best thing about this show!

Great episode last night. Loved how they handled the "Crowning" Of Targaryen. The metallic "thud" when his head fell to the floor was just great stuff.

Best quote of the episode:

"You do not fight with honor!"

"No, but he did."

*looks down hole*

Yeah the crowning was awesome and the dialogue was hilarious, but i gotta question regarding this Crowning:
[BLACKOUT]So the sister isa true dragon since she isn't harmed by fire, but while she and the brother we're siblings, he was just much weaker than her or something? Thus not a true dragon after all.[/BLACKOUT]

One thing I have to ask because it's been bugging me- The direwolves. I've watched it 3 times now, am I crazy, or in the first episode do they not say something along the lines of "5 wolves.. one for each of the Stark children" implying 5 Stark children.. and then the lines about Jon, how he's not a Stark, and then he finds the runt of the litter, the 6th, and takes that.

Who the hell is the 5th Stark child? For a while I thought it was Greyjoy, but he is not their child, just their ward. Does a ward count as a child? It seems to me a half blooded Stark should count more, but hey, whatever. So, Robb, Bran, Sansa, and Arya. Not counting Jon, is there a 5th? What the hell happened here.

You forgot Rickon, making it five. Jon is a bastard so he doesn't count as a Stark, hence his elemental surname.

Wanna talk about unneeded scenes?

How about the 5 minutes lesbian prostitute scene where Littlefinger goes in a monologue about his feelings for cate that's in next episode.

good lord.

There's more to Dany than just the Targaryen "Dragon" label. She'll be known as [BLACKOUT]"the un-burnt"[/BLACKOUT] as well as "Stormborn" moniker later on. I won't get into why.

Soulless,
Littlefingers story is very telling - is gives alot of insight into him, his past, his character, motivations, views, etc

Oh, 'I'm aware. Doesn't change the fact that there was zero need for the entire leasbian scene going on in the background with him randomly telling them what to do. "I'd do anything for her and she's awesome....Now play with her ass.....but she married a Stark". Come on. :whatever:

Everybody forgets Rickon :(

There was a useless, added scene that jumped out at me this past episode. When Robert and the rest were out hunting. Some of the dialogue came from different places in the book, but otherwise, that scene didn't happen. Also, that scene scared the crap out of me. There are a couple "out in the woods" scenes that are in there and I totally thought they were jumping on one at least 2 months (3 episodes) too early.

just saw episode 7

the brothel scene with the girls doing it to each other was just so excessive...It lasted liked 5 minutes...Going to be really awkward watching that with the gf this weekend...What an ending though. Love this show and books

This guy knows whats up. Literally the only reason for it is so they can draw in more male viewers.

Welcome to HBO. They have delivered some amazing shows over the years (Rome, The Sopranos, Entourage, Big Love, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood), but with all of them you better be prepared for some gratuitous nudity the way you expect commercials on a network show. Accept it now if you like the show.

so male hype members are complaining over a long lesbian scene

what planet am i on?

Saw episode 6. That ending was a brutal as I thought it was going to be!:applaud:awesome::applaud

The Crowning was just phenomenal! Episode 6 was fantastic. I love Conans wife, she is a great character.

regarding episode 7...Jason Momoa showed off his acting chops.

I can't comment on story points that far in the future. But there are many spectacular battles in the series. Who is to say those two armies ever meet? It's a game you know. Wheels within wheels.

From your post I can see that youve not finished the first book yet.

Yeah, I have the book but I'm still debating whether to read it all the way, or let the show surprise me. I've kept going back and forth on this issue, but I'm also tired of avoiding all the spoilers so I'm leaning toward (at least) finishing Book 1.

Another great episode. The crowning was brutal but I thought it happened too fast. Dani is super hot.

The son of Lady Stark' sister ( her name espaces me ) is meant to be mentally challenged ?
