Well as far as season 1 goes I'm looking forward to sky cells and the tournament at Kings Landing mostly.

Do any of the characters have any supernatural powers or are the people just regular humans?

There is Lady Melisandre. She has prophetic powers and is a shadow-binder. she can control shadows. She does this once to kill someone. She doesn't come into play until later on in the series though.
But other than the Others and Dragons, there's really nothing too extraordinary when it comes to magic.
It left the world after the Doom of Vallyria, which isn't really described into detail yet.

Well I'm going to put it in Spoilers because they are important plot points so read at your own risk.
Melisandre isn't untill season 2 (which hasn't been greenlit yet) and she kills a couple of people that way I won't say who though. Also Bran becomes what is refered to as a Warg or Skinchanger. He basically can observe/see what other beings see and/or control them. Animals at first and then people. More specifically Hodor. Some of the other Stark children (including Jon) share this trait but they don't know that they have it. They have "dreams". Some wildlings are wargs as well. There is also a priest that worships the same God as Melisandre who is a pyromancer. Pyromancy in general though is seen more of a magic trick by the general population. Somehow (which hasn't been explained yet) he can also "reanimate" the dead. Also there is a society of assassins called the faceless men who can change their appearance by some kind of sorcery. But most of this dosn't come into play untill at least book 2 which would be season 2.

Think of magic in the series as we think of magic in the real world. Most don't believe in it, some think it's all tricks, most think that stuff was real but all that died out years ago (along with the dead dragons, white walkers, direwolves). It's basically a middle ages story that would have been told about Europe, except as the series goes along the magic slowly creeps back in.

The Battle of King's Landing, the fight with the Other with Sam, The sacking of Astapor. So many amazing scenes that NEED to be filmed!

You make me want to read the novels, although I'll make sure to see the series somehow (even though I don't subscribe to HBO).

Wait...how many episodes is this into?
And where can I watch it besides on cable?

Also Strong Belwas, Red Viper vs. The Mountain, Arya and the Hound at the Crossroads Inn, Jaime vs. Brienne, Brienne at the Crossroads Inn (in Feast), The Hound vs. Beric Dondarrian, Lady Stoneheart, Stannis' arrival ... could go on and on.

Yeah you could, but lots of that stuff comes way later. I can't wait to see Brienne.

Can barely believe these reviews, it seems like they might actually have pulled this off.

Cannot. F**king. Wait

I love Peter Dinklage, and I love Tyrion Lannister, so I can't see how he could possibly not emerge as a critical and fan-fave from this.

I think what's funny is that all these reviews are of the build up episodes. They haven't even seen when the s**t hits the fan during the final episodes.

Can you imagine how people are gonna freak when you know who dies towards the end of the first book? Not to mention all the other important deaths.

Yet lazy bastards won't crack a book open.

It's a a shame since the books are really good, also I don't read a lot of fantasy books and I think this is one of the best in that genre. Oh and I caved in and watched the first 14 minutes of the show, is it just me or did [BLACKOUT]the Other[/BLACKOUT] in the prologue acts similar to Predator?

Whoa. Thanks for the info.

Sounds like an interesting series.

No you're not the only one. What's funny as when I read the books that's kind of what I pictured them to be like but more of the Predators in their stealth mode with the glowing eyes. But the way they are in the prologue of the show kind of leaves them room to be tweaked a bit in their design by the time they show back up. Like adding armor and stuff like that.

[BLACKOUT]I got chills when I saw them so I think that they were translated well into the series, especially the one who cut off the other guy's head and threw it at Will's feet, that wilding girl who got re-animated was creppy as well. I can see them having armor and stuff but that's later down the line.[/BLACKOUT] I also love the set-up of the Stark family.
