My friend has been telling me about the books. Makes me really excited about this show.

I would say more but it would be spoilers. Think of it as The Tudors, only once in a while someone in court hears crazy stories about dragons in some continent far off (their equivalent of Africa).

I love The Tudors, so I guess I'll be watching this, assuming a Canadian cable station picks it up. :(

Also, with a slim, muscular and hot Henry VIII, the Tudors also qualifies as "fantasy," in my book.

Now i finally have something to watch after LOST is finished...WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, I might pick up the books to read first, although finding the time to read them is another matter.

Remember, if you get confused with names and who's who there's a glossary in the back with most of the characters and their houses.
Oh awesome, thanks, I hadn't even noticed that.

But if that's not enough, it's nice to know I'll have back-up glossaries on this board. :woot:

Use the heraldry, the maps, you'll need them at certain points. Like following troop movements or seeing for yourself who's vulnerable, or impregnable, or who's walked themselves into a trap.

If you don't have time to read them check if your local library (they still exist) has them on CD (cause they are expensive to buy on CD). All four of them are done by books on tape and the first three are read by Roy Dotrice who is great at them (I'm not real fond of the Tyrion voice though). The fourth book is read by someone else and I haven't had a chance to listen to that one yet.

what if you are newly blind and you haven't learned braille yet??

What if your nose was a doorpost, where would you put the hinges?

Seriously, gotta love those hypotheticals. A freshly blind person's main concern is getting around in the world and one of those is learning to read. My gr4andfather learned it in mere weeks after he lost his sight last year before his death.

Nothing I guess if you are into that sort of thing. I studied English Literature and Journalism in college so paper is how I work. I could never sit passively while someone drone on and on and on. Besides, I read way faster than any person reading.

Books on tape are fun sometimes, if you've already read the book. It's like getting to hear a radio play of the book you've read.

Books on tape? BOOO!

Don't worry I read them first. Theater of the mind and everything, however these books were done pretty well (at least the first three I can't speak for the fourth one yet). I'm like you in that I prefer reading a paper book, but electronic media is the way of the world now.

As a matter of fact I think the dude who read them should play Walder Frey in the series because his voice for him is so good.

I think of Peter O'Toole when I think of Walder Frey.

Ever saw him play the old king in Stardust?

Mmmm... I'd rather not have Stewart for Tywin. He just doesn't feel right for the role to me.
