Gamergate reached 1.8 million

I apologize for not letting this thread die, but I could not believe what I saw. GamerGate...supports Jack Thompson. They hate Anita so much, they are actually supporting Jack Thompson siding with them.

I haven't finished the video yet, admittedly, but I'm waiting for the part about ethics in journalism. Because that's what this is all about.

I'm waiting for the part where GamerGate supports Jack Thompson.

Anyway,

The IGDA recently came under criticism for endorsing an automatic block list that labels people harassers and stalkers, a list so ineffective that KFC and an IGDA head ended up on it.

Understandably, Roberto Rosario has not been too happy about being on the list.

I don't care I'm blocked, it is not a popularity contest, I care about being named a harasser publicly without harassment proof #GamerGate

A misogynist?! I'm a primary sponsor of @IncludeGirls group that seeks to increase women roles in tech! #gamergate

Applying criminal or anti ethical labels to people on the court of public opinion without evidence in principle is wrong #gamegate

Why is he on the block list? For following people that talk about GamerGate.

ok on that i will agree with you. i think thats going to far.

by that logic everyone in here could be considered stalkers, and harassers because we had an interaction with the end and he supports gamergate

Ugh, I'm so tired of both sides. Ugh ugh ugh we get it. Can't we move on?

Support women in gaming. Except when we disagree with them!

Jennifer Dawe is one of the most inoffensive people you can imagine!

Hmm. I checked out her twitter and ask.fm.

Some people think you're using #GamerGate as a platform to promote your game. I personally don't think you are.

I can understand people being worried about that, but even the opposition admits that I have had what would now be considered pro gamergate sentiments long before it existed as a thing.

I was basically blacklisted back in March 2013 due to an argument with another developer because I said the industry was kind to me, and I didn't feel it was universally sexist and unwelcoming.

I appreciate the support though!

She seems well-intentioned.

I hate the over-use of political correctness. I hate it, I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate it. It is creatively stifling, it creates impossible standards that no one can live up to.

I just don't know how seriously to take this. I don't know if Brianna Wu is deliberately saying absurd things for attention. Don't you understand how humour works?

PC Gaming Master Race is a joke, its a rib, it isn't literal. They're not saying people that own PCs are a literal master race, they are not trying to invoke the holocaust.

If your standards for political correctness are seriously that high, no one can live up to it.

Oh, you laughed at a Downfall meme? Don't you think that was insensitive, to invoke Nazism like that? Millions of people DIED!! It isn't a laughing matter!

Take that PC mindset, and run with it, you'll be offended all the live long day.

Bart Simpson sold his soul, Maggie makes fun of him by praying for other people's souls. 'Er, I'm a christian, my prayer and my faith are very important and personal to me and this segment was OFFENSIVE!'

'I know someone with diabetes, that isn't funny'.

What comedian, could possibly live up to such politically correct standards? Part of what makes humour work, is that it can run contrary to what's normally accepted in polite society. Humour can be a little edgy, a little dangerous, a little dark.

I submit that no comedian can be 100% PC and still be funny.

SJWs, man, they represent a dystopian PC nightmare with no joy or fun any where.

Still?

Still?

STILL?

kinda makes your point worthless when the very first example is from yahtzee who hosts zero punctuation who is doing the whole thing as a piss take

The image is funny. I think you got your wires crossed. I posted the first image for context, before showing the Brianna Wu criticism of the term PC master race.

I told my doctor... the thing I fear most in life is type 2 apple diabeetus.

GamerGate's my second utmost fear.

EDIT: Does saying "second utmost" make any sense? I dunno. I don't care.

1: Why do you care? Everything that these so called "SJWs" have done amounts to nothing more than publicly stating that they don't like something. They're not hindering anyone's ability to tell jokes, they're just voicing their opinion when there's a joke they don't like. It is in no way a threat to you.

2: You're completely ignoring context here. While I'm sure there are a few outliers who think this way or say things to this effect, on the whole there isn't a huge movement that is actively against any form of comedy that references or acknowledges the existence of bad things. What most folks have a problem with is comedy that makes awful things out to be inherently funny, belittles the importance of horrible things, or in some way normalizes or even encourages ****** outlooks. Comedy, in the minds of many people you pointlessly refer to as "SJWs," can and should tackle difficult subjects by way of looking at them through a critical lens. There's also an element of how deftly the comedian in question handled their delicate subject matter. Some comedians who have "edgy" humor and who are incredibly popular among social justice minded leftist circles include Dave Chapelle, Louis C.K., Reggie Watts, Mindy Kaling, and basically everyone involved in Parks and Recreation, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Last Week Tonight.

Your statement that it is impossible to be a "politically correct" comedian is completely fallacious, in no small part because you have no idea what political correctness actually means.

Oh, and before you bring up that "Cancel Colbert" nonsense, a few things…

A) That whole hashtag campaign was a reaction to a joke taken out of context. The person who started it didn't actually watch the segment the joke was from and only saw a single line transcribed as a tweet, and took it to mean something different than what it meant.

B) The people who pushed that hashtag got a lot of flack from within the loosely associated leftist social justice community for being impulsive and for diverting attention away from the issue that the joke in question was attempting to address.

3: Some so called "SJWs" would have a problem with the downfall meme. Others do not. Others would have a problem with it in some contexts, but not others. This is not an example of hypocrisy. This is further proof that "SJW" is a completely meaningless and useless term. No one self applies it. There is no homogenous group that refers to themselves as "SJWs" and has a set agenda. SJW is a term that other people apply to a loose and diverse group of people who generally hold the same political beliefs but have differing perspectives on multiple issues. You can't use the term "SJW" to prove your point because it is a term that comes from you, not the people you're talking about.

4: Your argument would have a lot more ground to stand on if any of the jokes that you say were ruined by SJWs engaging in the oppressive act of publicly having an opinion about them were actually, you know, funny.

The boys who were outed to their mothers are now taking Pearce to court:

Alanah Pearce, an Australian video game reviewer, recently received a number of threats on Facebook and Twitter criticizing her for being a helpless woman in the video game world. After realizing that many of her assailants were underage she decided to inform their mothers. She rather easily found them through their social media accounts, informing the matriarchs that their offspring were sending rape threats. She then posted the conversation on her Twitter account and sent it to the Guardian. However, the boys are now taking the offensive.

The boys who sent the threats, and don’t want their names posted due to privacy concerns, are going to take Ms. Pearce to court on grounds of defamation, along with being a tattle tale and a goody two shoes.

“Our so called ‘threats’ were just small pranks, and not much different than things you see on the internet every day. If I was receiving these death or rape threats online I would have just brushed them off because I’m clearly more mature than her. But she crossed the line, though, by telling my mom about it. Something you learn at a very young age is to never be a tattle tale. She obviously missed that important lesson,” stated one of the young gentlemen.

During school these boys are now looked at in a different light as their classmates are making it hard to socially mingle with them. Some of the young women especially seem to keep their distance because they believed the boy’s harmless prank should actually be taken seriously. However, as we all know, words have never actually done any real harm.

A publishing company is currently working with the boys to tell their side of the story. The book will focus on how these death threats should not be taken seriously and maybe people need to just lighten up. The book is currently titled “Sticks and Stones.”

Last time I checked, someone being a tattle tale is not a valid legal argument.

EDIT: Never mind, it's apparently satire.

Because not wanting to give a microphone to someone who is openly racist is ruining America and being offended by someone saying that Muslims are evil is totally comparable to being offended by someone making dick jokes.
