Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

If it's true then it's still not the most farfetched thing this franchise has done but if they really wanted his character to have a connection to Alan, they could have just had him be a grown up Eric from Jurassic Park III.

Grown up Eric would be a better idea. But hopefully they leave any connections like that out.

One of the most interesting aspects of the first one is the relationship between Alan and the kids, and the arc that the character goes through. That's the kind of Spielbergian magic that has been missing lately. It's all random military man and random science woman with hardly anything resembling real human interaction. And don't get me started on clone girl.

Maybe Universal isn't paying for views? Judging anything off of youtube views is pointless.

I don't care about the youtube views of the trailer either, but I will say this:
The subtitle “Rebirth” has been so overused, and this license has had so many movies in the last ten years, that it's certain that people don't even notice it's a new movie when crossing thumbnails ...

Like Malcolm would say, it's another bad idea "in the long, sad history of bad ideas"... :o

Well, each film *tries* to put in some kind of family dynamic.

As you said the first one with the kids and Grant. The second with Malcolm and his daughter. The third with the Kirby’s. The fourth with the two brothers. And yes, five and six with clone girl. None of which has been as successful as the first in that regard.

This has a shot of a kid, so obviously there will be some stranded family or something on the island.

Oh yes I know they try, for sure. But that first one is still the most.... I don't know, authentic? Compelling? Original? Charming?

The two brothers and their aunt in Jurassic World was interesting but they didn't really explore it well enough. I like World for other reasons (watching the park actually open was something I always wanted to see) but all the emotional bits since the second one just don't work for me.

At this point, I don't think Lord & Miller should be trusted with large budget movies.

It used to hold slightly more weight as a barometer for box office take but that all went out the window with Joker 2.

This suite accuses that views can be bought. And frankly, it makes sense that that would be an option. And lets just say, I imagine 2/3 companies releasing movies that month have a much, much bigger incentive to promote the views....

Feels like the franchise is only a few movies of desperation away from pulling a stunt like "The only man who could stop these things is... a cloned young Alan Grant" and you pay Sam Neill a truck of money to show up and they smear CGI de-aging over his face. I'd be more for bringing back the character of Eric than Turkey Kid because it would at least make more sense (Eric is into dinosaurs and would probably grow up being some expert in the field) but it's just shallow nostalgia mining ultimately. At least if it's Eric then you can say mining JP3 doesn't feel as bad as mining the original even more.

It bothers me more with something like Star Wars though. Where you have a vast universe with so many planets, galaxies and what not yet everyone is related to someone you saw before.

All the talk about the Jurassic movies made me wanna rewatch them so I saw Lost World, JP III and Jurassic World again.
I still love III. I don't care, is pure fun. The aviary sequence is top tier.
Jurassic World was even more entertaining than I remembered (and Chris Pratt was actually really good in it) and Lost World became kind of a drag after the truck sequence.

I just rewatched JP3 last night lol

There was definitely a good movie in there, and it surprisingly teases the Indominus and all the backroom stuff InGen was doing.

I think the cinematography definitely hurt it, it looks kind of cheap. I feel like if it wasn't a mess during shooting and they made it a rescue mission as a first draft and had a few rewrites that it could've been great.

I've also heard it was way more violent and they cut some stuff out.

The thing about this franchise is they really don't need to bring back any character from a previous movie because the dinosaurs have always been the main selling point. Jurassic World actually utilized it best by having Dr. Wu as the only connective tissue returning character because it just makes sense from a story point of view given his job. Malcolm showing up in Fallen Kingdom felt more forced, but at least in that movie he appears to be the shellshocked survivor that he was in The Lost World but then the next movie throws that out the window and he proceeds to go full Jeff Goldblum quipping about Miles Davis's birthday while Alan and Ellie are seconds away from being mauled by a dimetrodon. I get the appeal of reuniting Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum and pairing them up with the new cast in Dominion but it's not really something that needs to happen again. Neill and Goldblum are now both older than Richard Attenborough was when he played Hammond in the original movie, we really don't need to see them get chased by dinosaurs again.

If Bailey's character does indeed end up being the "six foot turkey" kid, as farfetched as that is, then I think the only character with a significant speaking role who survived the first movie and has yet to appear in any of the sequels would be this scene stealer right here:

One of the things I like about JPIII is exactly that, that it feels smaller and cheaper. It isn't trying to be epic. It's short, fast, gets the job done.
It's a small-scale chapter in the series and sometimes that's ok.

Also has one of my favorite shots:

There's a few good shots in it for sure, and I do like the smaller scale story, I just think a cohesive story from the beginning of the writing process would've really helped it more.

Jurassic Park III is kind of underrated. Most would probably say it's the weakest of the original trilogy but it's still a fun movie and it's certainly better than Fallen Kingdom and Dominion.
It was also a time where the attention to sequels wasn't under heavy scrutiny as it is now. Like you got to the video store and there it was, a sequel to Silence of the Lambs. No big thing. A new Jurassic Park? Cool.

It was around back then but the Star Wars prequels were the ones that got most of the negative attention at the time. The reception to The Lost World and JPIII might have been lukewarm at best compared to the first Jurassic Park but at least there weren't fans on the internet whining about ruined childhoods like with The Phantom Menace. :o

That's true. No social media, so you had no idea what the world was thinking about a certain movie. It was you and your group of friends and maybe a newspaper review. Simpler, happier times.

Site C or whatever it will be called is so stupid, but with the 5 islands I guess it was inevitable. I wonder how it will be handled. The series has mostly been ignoring Site B for years.

Perhaps the Spino from JPIII "escaped" from this mysterious island, hence it not being on any InGen list. Maybe JPIII took place on this island already, explaining the visual inconsistencies between it and TLW. Nobody who landed there would have known any better, ha.

Clearly you both weren’t aware of Dan’s Lost World Page where many were up in arms with a T-Rex in San Diego lol
