But when they adapted 300 it was the story of 300 that Frank Miller wrote that was adapted. It wasn't the prequel story of King Leonidas' rise to power. We had that in the prologue.

And 300 is a good example of how to adapt something while adding your own ideas into it. The comic itself wouldn't take up that much screen time, but by putting in Queen Gorgo's portion, we have a fuller and more complete story. Which would be a prime example of how to deal with the character development shortages in the GOW campaign.

Why can we not get an awesome, true to the original vision, game-to-movie adaptation? Why must we suffer through Hollywood corporate executives always wanting to put there own "stamp" on a franchise they're looking to adapt?

So, what is it?? Obviously, you dont know what you want, and assumed that everyone else here would be pissed that its not word for word adapted from the game. Well, we are not. The prequel will be better, so calm down.

So then what's the problem?

My problem is is that they're not adapting the original material that which inspired them to make the movie. They're developing a "side-story" that they could make their own. This wasn't done with 300. The story of 300 is the Spartan's will to defend what they believed in against overwhelming odds. Gears of War is about a soldiers rise from the ashes to be the savior of mankind, which is why his last name is Fenix. Why take two hours to explain a prologue when you can easily tell it in 20 minutes at the beginning of the film?

Yeah, you do realize that this "prologue" has a far more interesting and compelling story than the entire game, right?

So we know he goes to prison. Movies are about the journey, not the destination. Otherwise 300 is just a bunch of dead spartans for two hours.

That's what I was thinking. If it was a full-on game adaption, it'd be mostly just mindless action with some token black guy lines thrown in.

Casino Royale was a modernized adaptation of the original book. It needed to be done in such a way to place it into today's world, but it still came from the book. Batman Begins is the origin story of Batman, which has been told several times before, therefore, it's still true to the comics. Gears of War is the story of Marcus Fenix's adventure to save mankind, not him going to prison.

And I know I'm being a little nitpicky about it because, even if they do make this movie, the sequel will HAVE to be the story of the game anyways. I'm just sick of seeing these big Hollywood execs taking a story and twisting it in such a way to make it their own.

Gears of War starts out with Marcus in jail. Then the rest of the game is essentially a 4 hour long rail shooter with a storyline that's essentially an extended courier mission from a GTA game. Yes, it was a great game, but the storyline wouldnt make a movie at all. What happened before the game though, with Marcus fighting in the wars against the molemen, and going to jail after trying to save his father, there's a f**kin movie.

I myself would much rather have a series of movies set in the GoW universe than a direct adaptation of the game which had no storyline to adapt. Maybe you could use the games story as the first act of the 2nd movie, but there's no way it'd fill an entire 2 hour long movie.

Yeah, and if you knew ANYTHING about this or read my posts you'd know that THEY ALREADY WORKED OUT THE GEARS OF WAR STORY ARC.

I'll type it in big letters all over again so you can let it sink in, as you've failed to do several times already.

Before they made Gears of War, they wrote out the entire story to the universe. The events before Gears of War, the events of the game, and the events after the game. GEARS OF WAR IS THE STORY OF THE PENDULUM WARS LEADING INTO THE EMERGENCE DAY WAR. IT'S A BIGGER STORY THAN JUST "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MARCUS FENIX"

So it's staying true to the game. Just like Casino Royale and Batman Begins.
