Terribly sorry if there is already a thread for this, but I can never get the search function on this site to work properly.

Anyway, as we're all geeks here, I'm curious about the geeky stuff that just doesn't click with you, and why. This isn't intended as a hate thread (though I guess if you hate something, that would certainly count). Mainly it's just for things that you can't get into, no matter how hard you try.

For me...

Never got into Battlestar Galactica. I tried watching the entire introductory miniseries, and while it was pretty good, I wasn't intrigued enough to watch any further installments. I just didn't find the characters very engaging.

Also not into Firefly. The characters were pretty good, but I didn't think the storylines were up to par and the premise just didn't hold my interest.

I'm also not a big fan of vampires, so Buffy, Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and new versions of Dracula, most Anne Rice stuff... just not into it. I used to really like vampire lore, but I think I just got tired of it. However, if a Castlevania movie ever comes to fruition (and it's not directed by Paul W.S. Anderson or Uwe Boll) I'm so there.

How about you?

Star Trek.
Star Wars
Battle Star Gallactica.
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Firefly.
Buffy.
role playing.
anime.
gaming.
dressing up at comic con.
wearing "nerd clothes"
statuette/toy collecting

Just gimmie my comics and movies. :yay:

I'm pretty much Batman full stop.

I enjoy other ''geeky'' things (Nothing Sci-fi though)... but Bats is where the buck stops with me. So I guess im not a conventional ''Big Bang Theory'' geek.

I honestly can't think of any 'geeky' stuff that I haven't liked at least partially, or at some point in my life.

I am not into playing computer games on my own these days really, it is so time consuming, and I always felt guilty because I spent so much of my childhood playing computer games, when before that period, I spent a lot of time writing and drawing my own wee comics.
So, it's the same nowadays, I'd only play games if it were a social thing with other people, and I'd want to spend more time on creative writing in those alone time periods.

some you mentioned...firefly, I thought river was interesting, and liked two or three eps of the series, and the movie...but i never really was a massive fan...
Battlestar Galactica...I actually really enjoyed the eps I managed to catch of this, the mini-series, and about 7 or 8 eps of the 1st season...I'll get round to watching all of it properly someday...when i can get stoned, haha...

Harry Potter...eh, I'll watch the films, and enjoy the ones i enjoy, but I probably won't get round to reading the books for a long time, as I already know the gist of the story, and there are so many stories in book form where I don't know the story...

still, I have enjoyed all of these fandoms to some extent...really struggling to think of one I can't stand in any form at all...nope.

Ok, i thought of one, Pokemon, although i guess if i had been a wee kid when i came out i might've gotten into it, but maybe not, I prefer actual fighting games, not these psuedo trading card battles in computer game form, so aye, I think you can safely put me down as someone who would not have gotten into Pokemon, even when i was wee.
and aye, all that trading card nonsense.

Although, i did like sticker albums when i was a kid, even the football ones, even though i didn't like football, it was fun collecting all the stickers and swapping them to try and fill the book.
so, i guess i was into 'trading cards' in a way at one point in my life.

Zombies. I've tried numerous times but zombie movies, games and tv shows just ultimately bore the **** out of me. There have been a few exceptions (Planet Terror, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland), but those were great for reasons other than the fact that they were zombie movies.

Pretty much any sci-fi having to do with space besides Star Wars (I'm talking BSG, Firefly/Serenity, all Star Trek besides Wrath of Khan and the 2009 film)

Also, Doctor Who. I refuse to believe that those Daleks are a threat. They look like sex toys for obese women.

aye, and collecting statues, or even action figures...if i was gonna buy one, i'd buy action figures, at least you can do something with them, put them in funny poses, or do animations with them, statues? eh, I'd end up playing with them was i was high and smashing them up in dummy fights.
So, aye, i need teddy bears, hand puppets and action figures for that kind of carry on.
I have a wee polar bear i like to kick around the house and talk crap to, he sits by my side watching the telly, i rescued him from a roadside, he was all mucky, been thrwon out, and i took him in and washed him, he has no eyes, haha.

God yes... someone please explain the appeal of Doctor Who.

MMO's, just can't get into them at all. I'm a big fan of video games, but just have absolutely no interest in playing an MMO.

There are a variety of doctors, and styles, so surely you can see how someone could be into one permutation of the concept, a time travelling alien getting into adventures, it's a superhero tale.
I like the eps I like, depends on the writing, because it's a great concept. I watch it when it's on, and would watch the old eps if they repeated them but I'm not so much of a fan that I'd buy teh dvds, although if I had a lot of money, I probably would buy some of the old ones that looked interesting.

Anything from Whedon's past (Firefly, Buffy). I never understood the fanfare over it.

I totally agree with all of these. Can't get into any of 'em.

I use to be like you. Then I took a Jean-Luc Picard to the knee.:woot:

I don't hate them (hell, I actually kind of liked Firefly), but they are incredibly overrated.

If you listen to years of Firefly hype, and then finally watch the show, you'll scratch your head.

I'm pretty much into it all.

Star Trek
Star Wars
Toy collecting
Anime
Comic book heroes and their respective movies
Godzilla
etc

The only thing I'd say I haven't gotten into is a majority of the DC Universe. It stops at Batman and Superman for me. Oh and Dungeons and Dragons
World of Warcraft. Never could get into that.

I've tried watching Doctor Who & Battlestar Galactica, but can't seem to like them.

That kinda happened to me. I caught eight episodes back when it was released and the show never clicked with me. Then fans (about 6-7 years later) told me to watch the remaining episodes, and I tried, but I couldn't.
