I understand that.
But they have more than 3 mins of footage they can cut into a trailer. They showed only 1 second of Han Solo and Chewie. And everyone got their fix :)

Patience, my young Jedi.

There's been major reshoots. That's the reason we haven't seen much, they don't have a cut of the movie yet.
Nah. This is the same thing they did with TFA. In fact this is much actually earlier then when we got the second trailer for TFA.

You don't need a cut of the movie to make a trailer.

I have to laugh though because I remember last year people complaining about TFA's marketing saying it was not enough, even up to the third trailer. They know what they are doing, it will be marketed, and soon it will be all over the place.

This will be a big event, everyone is watching the Olympics right now, and having a big trailer debut on there will get a lot of discussion. They may even tease Vader in this.

We already had two teasers for TFA at this point. Regardless, the marketing for this movie will hit light speed pretty soon.

No we had the Disney forced teaser (the one JJ did not want to make and thus was choppy), the first real teaser, and the Comic-Con footage.

This we we have had the first real teaser, the Celebration teaser, the Celebration footage, and now the first trailer. We did not get a full trailer for TFA until football season started. I know because I still have the Monday Night Football recording. :woot:

I remember. The trailer was the only reason to watch that boring game, lol.

I did not record the game, only the trailer. I do remember a lot of timeouts that lead to a long second quarter that had people really upset. :funny:

I still really love that teaser. Only a handful of shots of the new characters. That's what I love about early teasers like that, they suggest so much. But the Celebration teaser is my favorite TFA trailer. That struck a chord in me that I hadn't felt in many years.

I had no problem with the idea of the teaser, the problem was the execution imo. Except for the end. The end was perfect.

Also three of the shots from the original teaser didn't even make the film. Which is pretty funny when you think about. :funny:

I wonder if Tony Gilroy will get a co-director credit now.

Still irks me that they cut the Kylo shot out of the film and had him activating his saber off screen.

The way its in the film is underwhelming.

*lightsaber turns on off screen*
* cut to frazzled Kylo in a tizzy*
"We're not done yet"

Him stalking through the snowy forest hood up planting his feet and activating his saber like he is ready to **** some **** up was so much more powerful and is imo one of the iconic shots to come out of the franchise.

Id put that shot up there with the doors opening Maul removing his cloak revealing his horns and him activating his double bladed saber. Imagine if in TPM the doors start to open and before we can see Maul the camera immediately cuts to the protagonists' reaction shots as Maul activates his saber off screen then it cuts back to Maul and his cloak is off and he's holding his saber nonchalantly at his side. Even if it had been cut that way at least Maul's physical appearance would have saved the moment from being totally neutered. Kylo on the other hand is about as physically intimidating as a poodle so that and the questionable editing makes the reveal of Kylo in the woods visually underwhelming.

The only cut scene I think should've been in the movie was Kylo in the MF cockpit. We never saw Han/Leia/Ben together, so scenes like that were needed. Would've made the bridge confrontation better.

I love that shot, but it doesn't make sense in the context of the film. I think it was that way when they originally had Kylo stalk them. Where they would be running from him directly, so we'd be watching it from his perspective. When they changed that, they had to change Kylo's entrance. You will notice in the film he doesn't even have his hood at that point.

As it is in the film its hard to believe he is being sincere on that bridge. Sure he's been feeling the pull between the light and dark, but he has also been saying Han and his family mean nothing and has been behaving like a monster. Its hard to buy that him running into his father one time could instantly turn him back. The film needed triggers that were nudgung him back to the light scattered throughout the film. The film could have shown that the thoughts of his parents is bothering him and making him feel guilt. It could have shown him going into the Falcon and remembering his mother and him having a happy moment when he was young, and then he finally see his father after all these years and its presented as the final nudge. He turns good and the audience feels that that is what the film has been building towards. (A rhyming stanza of what happened between Luke and Vader.) Then in one violent sudden action Kylo violently rejects all that guilt and pain and all those memories and stabs his father. The audience is blindsided.

But I guess it feeling insincere in the film does create its own sort of tension. Instead of thinking its sincere the audience is left waiting for the inevitable with dread.

It is beautiful, but I feel a bit superfluous. Why? Because when they cut the movie, they clearly moved stuff around which made that scene not quite work. Heck because of the moving stuff around some of the shots in the movie are inconsistent.

If you look at what Kylo is wearing, I think the scene originally played out with:

- Han arrives
- Kylo goes out to the Falcon
- He gets the report and comes back to the base
- He goes directly to Rey's room (no hall shots) and finds her missing
- He talks to trooper on the bridge (no Han Solo sensing he already knows he is there)

Now what I think happened in the original edit of the film, Kylo never removed his hood, but in the reshoots, he does ditch the hood. He doesn't have it when he talks to Han. He doesn't have it in the hallway shots when walking to Rey's room where he has the hood again. He doesn't have it in the snow.

Chances are when they did reshoots, a lot of it was the finale. They moved Rey escaping to before Han arrives, perhaps to give her more agency. She doesn't need saving.

Does it seem insincere? His reaction to hearing the name Han Solo makes him protest in an overly obvious way imo. Snoke makes it clear it is . He has a conversation with his dead grandfather about his conflict. Even the old man at the start of the film calls him out on it. In the end it was a struggle for him to kill Han, which is why he gets owned by Rey. I totally bought it.

Sure, I'd never ask for a f***ed up editing/pacing in favor of a single scene which could very well be a little darling. As long as they didn't cut it to "climax" things up more.

Can't wait for the new trailer :)

Hope it's not the one they've shown at Celebration, but a brand new one.

P.S I also really hoped they would keep the shot of Kylo turning on his lightsaber from the TFA teaser in the film. It was way more epic than having him turning it on off-screen during the film.

A new trailer is finally coming, hell to the yeah!!

Excellent if so... Just hope it isn't the one they showed attendees at Celebration.

Also hoping Thursday's Olympic trailer is all new, I doubt they would have made such a big announcement if it wasn't.:yay:

Hopefully this trailer will have some actual dialogue between some lead characters. All the action, sets, mood, everything looks great, I'm sold!, but what we haven't seen is the chemistry and dynamic between the main cast. Especially after reading what some of you have said about Godzilla. If that's not there, or they are hesitant to show any here, I'll be a little concerned.
Or they can just continue to wow me with effects and action!:woot:

The Importance of planet Jedha

One of the main planets featured in ROGUE ONE is the planet Jedha, which director Gareth Edwards describes as a holy land in the STAR WARS universe, an intergalactic Mecca or Jerusalem if you will.

Edwards spilled a few new details to Entertainment Weekly about the planet we've seen featured in the ROGUE ONE trailers, saying that they "were trying to find a physical location we could go to that would speak to the themes of losing your faith and the choice between letting the Empire win, or evil win, and good prevailing. It got embodied in this place we called Jedha.” The period in which ROGUE ONE begins has much of the galaxy losing their faith in the force, which Edwards says is basically like a religion in the STAR WARS universe, but Jedha is still a place where the faithful can make a pilgrimage, that is until it's taken over by the Empire.

Edwards said:
It was essentially taken over by the Empire. It’s an occupied territory… for reasons we probably can’t reveal. There’s something very important in Jedha that serves both the Jedi and the Empire. It felt very much like something we could relate to in the real world. Within Jedha, even though there’s the oppressive foot of the Empire hanging over them, there’s a resistance that won’t give up and our characters have to go and meet people there to try and secure a person from this group.

That person may very well be Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen), a blind man who lives on Jedha and is "accompanied by his protector and guide Baze Malbuz (Jiang Wen), a non-believer in the supernatural who nonetheless has great faith in his friend." Chirrut and Baze aren't the only ones to call Jedha home, it was also the homeworld of Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) before he was conscripted into Imperial service.

Looks like Jason Ward was accurate once again with his kyber crystals report from a few months ago.

Maybe the giant kyber crystal that powers the Death Star laser is on that planet.
