Rogue One Rogue One: Early Tweet Discussion Thread (NO SPOILERS)

Opinions are somewhat mixed on this one character. We'll see.

Pretty sure I know which character. Yeah seems mixed, from some of the stuff I'm reading on twitter though seems more seemed to think it worked and looked great. You mentioned Thompson so I checked her twitter, had one guy there saying he thought it looked horrible but many others saying it looked damn good. Only thing we can do with this is wait and see though.

Are we really going to agonize and micro-examine film Twitter tweets?

I'm sure this CG think will look fine. Unless he looks like Gumby.

I hate this sort of hyperbolic BS and it's why I don't pay much attention to Twitter reactions:

"most *astoundingly* bad CG character in film history."

How old is this critic? Younger than 20? Has he not seen many films? I'd like to introduce him to Blarp.

And the chase scene in Lockout:

Those two examples can rightfully be labeled some of the most astoundingly bad cgi in film history. I doubt Rogue One has any cgi that is that bad.

I know of one character that shows up
in the ending but so far the opinions I heard/saw about the CGI there are positive

but who knows if it's even true :P

It's this byproduct of the way Internet culture has affected how we all express ourselves. The real meaning of our thoughts are degraded since every statement has to be so over the top. I bet when I see the film there will be a scene here or there where you can see the "digital seams" or the character looks awkward for a moment. But that's it. It won't be "worst ever" or even close. It's hard to think of someone proffering their opinion in good faith when they have no sense of accurate proportion when they communicate. I bet in less than a year that guy will say that some other use of CGI is "the worst ever".

A lot of people are complaining about that character, so it might be an issue. Also, no spoilers in here, please.

Well then people should stop asking for them.
I think those complaining are 'professional' critics most people seem not to have much issue

It is in the thread title.

And no, plenty of "normal" people as well.

Marvolo, have you even seen the darn movie? You guys are getting upset about a movie you haven't even seen and the way people are expressing opinions over a movie you haven't seen and are uninformed about. This is why getting worked up over social media tweets is silly

What spoilers? Marv was posting about the tweet which revealed nothing but that the person that tweeted had issues with a CGI character? How is that spoiling anything?

If we aren't allowing tagged and blacked out spoilers in here we need a dedicated spoiler review thread. The review embargo ends today and at least one Hype member is watching this tomorrow. Spoilers are going to starting pouring in.

I don't need to see the movie to know that cgi, created by ILM, in a 2016 major studio film isn't "the most *astoundingly* bad CG in film history." Not when I know film history contains things like Blarp.

ILM isn't infallible. Also, ILM created this too.

You haven't seen or have no point of reference at all for what the writer is talking about.

Something tells me it's gonna be a CGI double of a character from OT, that doesn't look realistic enough.

Lol scrolling through the thread this morning i kept think "Scorpion King! Scorpion King!"

You know, was that tweet actually referring to the quality of the character rather than the rendering?

All I will say is that there are some CG visuals in the movie that look horrendously awkward and distracting.

It's all subjective though, might look fine and non distracting to others. People just have to wait and literally see for themselves.

I've seen the movie, and a lot of the people commenting here haven't and are attacking others who have when they have no point of reference for what's being discussed.

I get people are fans of what they love. At the same time, people are acting like someone is talking bad about your kid or something. Rogue One's not your son. It's not your family member.

I'm not attacking anyone who disliked it? I'm not flipping out? I haven't seen the film, who knows how I'll feel about the look of the CG. Just saying that I've read some thoughts from people who hve seen the film. It distracted some and they didn't like it, and some thought it looked great. Different people feel differently, what a shocker.

Just because you saw it and didn't like the CG doesn't mean others who saw it also disliked it. That's why I made a simple statement saying it's all subjective and people literally have to see it first with their owns eyes for them to decide. Nowhere was I complaining or attacking anyone that disliked it.

I never said you specifically.

Well you quoted me so I assumed your post was directed towards me. But if not fine, I was just making a simple statement. We'll all have to wait and see.
