I'd have definitely saved them for the end. Have the Rebel Soldier that's running down the hallway (to Leia) run past them and shout "Out of the way!". Artoo beeps, Threepio says "How rude", and done.
That would have gave away where they were. That is probably why they didn't do that.

Yeah that would have ruined the surprise. They should have shown R2 and Threepio earlier in the movie, or not at all.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but some really cool info on Vader's castle and why it's on Mustafar. I know this is the spoilers thread but just in case I'll tag it.

Hidalgo's Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide sheds even more light on the "Dark Monolith." In a fascinating twist, it's The Emperor who has seen to it that Vader is forced to live on the planet where he suffered his greatest failure. "Vader’s personal abode is an obsidian tower on an inhospitable world," he reveals. "It is the Emperor’s design that Vader lives in such an unforgiving environment. Vader’s attendant, Vanee, visits Vader as he meditates within a rejuvenation chamber. The stark, modern structure is built over an ancient castle full of dark secrets."

Dark secrets? Well, in The Art of Rogue One, author Doug Chiang reveals that the castle was, "built over a natural cave — a Sith cave deep down below, in the lava world." He also indicates that this is somewhere we'll return to down the line, adding: "We were building worlds, so we always had to keep in mind the broad strokes and the big picture, in case they were needed for the story"

Yeah I find it extremely likely that we'll see [BLACKOUT]Vader's castle[/BLACKOUT] again in episode 8 or 9.

Putting C3PO and R2 at the very end would have ruined the tension. You had this awesome scene of Vader being a bad ass and having them there right after would have undercut it. The ending was perfect the way it was.

After the comic, I'd love to see a Anakin dunk in Lava, and Rise reforged as Vader. Great visual.

Another thing I'm confused about right now: around this time last year everyone was saying how great TFA was and now they've gone all hipster d-bag on the Internet and are saying it sucks! What the hell? Yes, it had flaws but it was a good movie damnit! More than anyone can say for the prequel trilogy! Why are all these people doing this? If this happens with Rogue One next year I'm gonna be upset. These people are as just as big of babies as the Metallica fanbase!

Don't pay attention to any of that ****.

Can you at least explain please? A lot of guys from Red Letter Media to the Agony Booth etc are going around saying it either sucked or that it was "disappointing"! Utter bull.

There were plenty of people saying it was very flawed or it rehashed many of the same beats as ANH but over all it was a good and very entertaining film in its own right. I've yet to here anyone say its as bad as a prequel flick.

The rise of social media has made things like this seem more prevalent. Any film that is popular critically and financially gets whiplash. You go to almost any list of most over rated films you see great films like TDK, LOTOR etc. It's just what the internet does most of the time.

It's a small minority trying to make it sound like everyone is feeling like this. And some start going along with it because they fear they will be seen as "stupid" or a "lemming" if they don't (ironic)

Trust me the same will happen with Rogue One, Episode VIII etc. Almost every big popular film goes through this. It's really nothing new. It's part of the shiny new wrapper syndrome. Kind of a millennial trait that everyone seems to have. Some get bored quickly and think they can only love one thing at a time so they trash the "old" quickly.

For how many times I've seen on these boards alone after a year or two that Begins is not that good, or TDK, it's just a commonalty. Negativity spreads and is usually louder than that of positive ramblings.

Kind of like working in any form of customer service. The 9/10 people having good service will not really tell many people about the good service the received. If that 1/10 person receives bad service or is not happy with it they will each tell 20 people of their displeasure. Some of it is human nature.

Listening to comment sections and forums are usually where most of this is the case.

Too be fair, that isn't hard. :hehe:

There are a whole lot more films/novels/comics etc. coming besides Episodes VIII and IX. That's probably what he's referring to.

How do you mean? It wasn't a secret that it was the Tantive IV Vader was watching fly away...
It was not explicit when and where we were until we see [BLACKOUT]Leia[/BLACKOUT]. That is why they hold it until then.

I'd have to disagree with that, at least when it comes to general fans and not the GA. As soon as the ship was revealed (dropping out from Raddus's ship) excited gasps filled the room. Everyone who remembers the opening in anyway knew what that ship was. The only build/reveal came from the brief question of

"But will they actually show Leia?" (Cue second round of gasps when the door opens and we see her from behind).

It is not until the final 3 mins that it is made clear where and when Rogue One ends. Also in a serious moment you would not show the comedy relief Droids being comic relief.

I could agree with that second bit (although for the life of me I can't remember which scene immediately precedes that, so I can't remember if they're starting to lighten up/set up the "Hope" part by then), but as I said, I think it's super clear-- from casual fans up-- as soon as the ship is revealed.

I honestly wish they hadn't appeared. I understand that they would've been on Yavin at the time but it was just superfluous to the plot. It felt like obligatory fan service and, for me, broke the pace of the scene. It's the same with the Cantina boys.

I have seen the film with 3 other people. My brother knew, my sister and mother didn't until they saw [BLACKOUT]Leia[/BLACKOUT]. All three have seen all the Star Wars films. But even if people do know, the build up is very specific. I think they played it perfectly.

What exactly is wrong with 5 second scenes of fan service? It wasn't like they spent even 30 seconds with them, combined?

It just felt egregious, like self aware winks at the camera. Fan service like that hardly ever works for me. There were plenty of references in the film that felt appropriate and necessary, there were just some examples that pushed it too far.

My crowd went absolutely crazy when they showed up- u got this sense of pride and nostalgia that really made the movie that much more special. First and foremost this is about entertainment. I sometimes thinks that gets lost on people, Star Wars isn't just the story- it's the feeling and quite honestly the feeling is what makes it the phenomanah that it still is today. So I wholeheartedly and respectfully disagree with you. My crowd and I loved how that made us feel- so it worked and was a complete success as far as im concerned!

Great post. I don't like to do it in general, but Star Wars movies are movies that I have no interest in analyzing and dissecting. I just sit and watch and enjoy it. I don't ask myself if the fan-service fits or if it's necessary or not, for example. I just watch it. Same with the Tarkin CGI. Absolutely I noticed it when he first appeared on screen, but then I just allowed myself to go with it and after all was said and done he was one of my favourite aspects of the movie!

I respect everyone's opinion though. I realize I'm a lot more easygoing and forgiving than most movie-goers.

Considering the reaction in my theater both times, I think most quite enjoyed them. But hey, to each their own.
