The Amazing Spider-Man Get rid of Tobey?

Should they recast Peter for Spider-Man 4?

  • Yes. He is too old, too fat, and he can't throw a wise crack to save his life.

  • No. Tobey is perfect as Peter.

I'm kind of tired of Tobey. But, obviously there wouldn't be much point in recasting him unless they did it with everyone.

I don't agree with either of the remarks available in the poll.

I do think that Tobey has been lacking some vital elements of Pete/Spidey, however I think a VERY big part of that has been due to the writing (or lack of writing). I also think Tobey has done a good enough job to warrant another shot at doing more with the character and taking him further.

But yeah, a reboot would be lovely too if done correctly.

I'm not sure aobut this one . I never thought Tobey was right for the role but the work they have put into these films has been incredible. I don't want to see it all start over becuase it seems too soon. I would like to know if they do plan to go to six though becuase that would have to be the limit.

I lost a lot of respect for toby and kirsten during the build up to SM3 as both of them were clearly coming across as arrogant, that spider-man is beneath them. well, what have they done worth a **** since? if they feel they can do better than spider-man than do it and leave the movie to people WANT to do it.

sam may have his faults but you can tell he is DESPARATE to direct spider-man.

I'm not a great actor or anything like that but if I was going ot play Spider-man I would be beyoned enthusiastic. I don't blame tobey for wanting to be in other movies and have a chance at being known for other things besides Spider-man but he should be grateful that he is sitting on a billion dollar franchise.

While, I wouldn't say that he is the perfect Parker, he is good and it would be asinine to recast now in the fourth installment. There is no quicker way to kill a franchise. If you want a reboot, I suppose you have a point. But as this is a direct sequel recasting him is a stupid mistake. If you think he is fat, look how shape he is in in Brothers, a movie he is getting Oscar buzz for. If you think he cannot throw a wisecrack, while not the best I suggest you play the movie videogames. That fault seems to lie with the writers and director choosing not to make Spidey a joker, for whatever reason.

And DACMAN you honestly are spamming at this point.

Where is this double chin? How can I have missed this? Was it when he was just told Marko had killed his uncle and he was crying? I think I remember a double chin around there..

And this isn't even the part people are talking about. This is from SM2.

dude, I'm not fat, and when I do that, I get a double chin. DJ Qualls, one of the skinnniest people ever, could do that and have a double chin. and like the above post said...that...what? 30-45 seconds takes away the whole movie for you..well...

Tobey is in good shape for those movies. That said, I did always imagine someone with a more sinewy and lanky body type in the role.

Doesn't surprise me that fans are actually complaining about a little chin fat. God forbid that.

When people put their faces back the skin folds. Stop pointing out people's imperfections like you're some perfectly carved greek statue.

Keep him. All he needs is a good script.

Tobey came up with the best line in #3 ('...in these parts'). There's cockyness because it isn't written. If it was written it would be there.

What line is it??

'I'm the sheriff around these parts.'

I think it was on the commentary where they say Tobey came up with it. It actually sounds like something Spidey would say.

Has anyone seen the clips of "Brothers," Tobey's new movie? He is the anti-Spidey in that movie. He plays one angry, scary guy. He is a hell of an actor when given a good script. I think we forget that after the mediocre showing on SM3.

Yeah, that is probably the most Spidey-ish quip in the series. The 'did your husband make that for you' line is a good one for goading the wrestler but as someone said the other day, a gay gag is not the kind of gag Spidey would make.

I say, Tobey is a very underrated actor! I think the bashing on him in this franchise is uncalled for. He is, as Demogoblin said, a great actor. If Peter Parker is not the way he should be, it's because of the script, the director and the writer(s). There is a story floating around on the web that a man wrote with ideas taken from none other than Tobey Maguire. And guess what, that story is great and very true to the comics! It's got both Lizard and Kraven in it. I'm sorry for not having the link here at the moment, but I think most of you know what I'm talking about.

Sorry, just reflex there with the Bale vs Keaton thing there.

Think we better listen to Demogoblin, he's the sheriff round these parts.:cwink:

I think the rub against Tobey is he's a lil to introspective. He was Spiderman in action alone, he's a real downer of a Parker. Peter always found solace in being superpowered, even when things went bad, which was a lot.

We didn't get the fun webslinger, which might work for the first movie, but IMO needed to be more exuberant, and not trying to win an Oscar.

Franco played big and cartoonyish in part 2, McGuire dont
